After spending the afternoon explaining to Cas how to fill out a job application, Dean was exhausted. On the other hand, Cas was practically bouncing off the walls.
"Okay, okay, which one sounds better? 'How are you?' Or 'how are you?'" Cas asked Dean, eagerly waiting for his opinion.
Dean pinched the bridge of his nose with his fingers. "They-they literally sound exactly the same, Cas."
"Oh," Cas pouted, furrowing his eyebrows. "Well... What about, ''may I help you?' Or 'what can I do for you today?'"
Dean squeezed his eyes shut and opened them at Cas. This kid...
"They both sound good."
"But did you see my facial expression?" Cas asked, determined to find the best greeting.
"Cas, I'm not gonna lie but don't you think this is kind of... unnecessary?" Dean asked, raising an eyebrow. He understood that Cas was just excited about getting a job, but c'mon.
Cas frowned. "Well, maybe. I'm not sure. I've never had a human job before. I've only seen it on TV."
Dean chuckled realizing how innocent Cas was. He didn't know any better because this is all knew to him. Dean stood up from the couch and stretched his arms. He had an idea.
Dean glanced over at Cas with wide eyes. He wasn't feeling so tried anymore. "I think we should go somewhere. Let's do something."
Cas tilted his head and walked over to Dean. "Okay... like what?"
Dean pursed his lips and gave Cas a sly smile. "It's a surprise— but you're gonna love it."
He smiled back. "Okay, I trust you."
Dean smiled a big toothy grin and planted a kiss on Cas's lips. "Lets go!"
===========================
"Why are you putting a blind fold on me?" Cas asked, frowning as Dean folded up t-shirt to put over Cas's eyes.
"So you can't see the surprise," Dean explained. "Now hold still."
Dean carefully tied on the makeshift blindfold, making sure it wasn't too tight.
"I don't like this."
"Cas, just... please stop fidgeting."
"What if I trip and fall? What if something happens and I can't see it because you blindfolded me?"
"If you keep talking I'm gonna have to kiss you so you shut up."
"..."
"Aw c'mon, don't be like that."
"I just don't understand why—"
Dean leaned forward and gently kissed Cas, causing Cas to jump in surprise. He was stubborn at first, but Cas eventually warmed up the kiss. Dean felt along Cas's jaw line with his fingers, his other hand falling to his hip. Dean's breath hitched when Cas nibbled his bottom lip.
"Is this the surprise?" Cas whispered, pulling away slightly.
Dean leaned his forehead against Cas. "No... but this can be the after surprise."
"Then it's not a surprise anymore since I know what it is," Cas pointed out.
Dean paused. "Just— c'mon. Time for the real surprise."
Dean pecked Cas on the lips once more before taking him by the hand and leading him out of the apartment.
============================
"It's cold," Cas complained when he stepped out of the Impala.
Dean just hummed before popping the trunk and pulling out the snow gear. "Put this on."
Dean helped Cas put on a winter coat, boats, mittens, and a hat. In all honestly, it was like trying to dress a toddler with five foot limbs.
"Can I take off the blindfold now?" Cas asked, slightly hopping in place with excitement.
Dean chuckled and nodded his head, then realized Cas couldn't see him. "I'll help you."
Dean carefully untied the blindfold and revealed the white scenery to Cas. He didn't say anything at first and Dean wondered if Cas didn't like the view.
Dean had parked the Impala on top of a snowy hill in a park thirty minutes from home. It was breathtaking. It over looked a small sledding hill with snowy pines and an iced over pond.
After a couple more seconds Dean glanced over at Cas, who remained silent.
Dean's lips fell into a flat line. The idiot still had his eyes closed. Dean blinked hard a couple times and choked back a laugh.
"Cas?" Dean whispered, his mouth twisting into a smile.
"Yes, Dean?"
"You're suppose to open your eyes now."
"Oh, okay."
Cas finally opened his eyes and gave the reaction Dean was waiting for.
"Oh," Cas breathed, his eyes widening. He blinked a couple times, glancing in every direction and taking it all in.
"You like?" Dean asked, though he could tell by the awestruck look on Cas's face that he did.
"I... love it," Cas gushed, smiling. He turned to Dean and smiled wider. Dean smiled back and shoved is hands in his pockets. His face felt warm against the crisp, winter breeze.
Cas suddenly plopped down in the snow, sitting pretzel legged. Dean tilted his head and watched Cas gather snow in front of him. Dean joined him on the ground and started raking in a pile of snow for Cas. He had a lopsided smile on his face and Dean couldn't help but smile along with him.
"What are you making?" Dean asked, pushing a big pile for Cas to reach.
"A miniature snowman for his snowy kingdom," Cas explained. He started rolling softball sized snow balls and stacking them on top of each other.
"Usually snowmen only have three snowballs put together," Dean said. "One for the bottom, the middle, and the head."
Cas nodded his head. "Well, this one is different. He will have four snowballs."
Dean chuckled. "Alright... how come?"
Cas started stacking another small snowman right next to his first one. "Because unlike other snowmen, this one shares his kingdom with his boyfriend snowman."
Dean fell silent, continuing to shovel snow for Cas.
"They live happily in their kingdom and they are happy with being different, as long as they have each other," Cas explained, putting finishing touches on his snowmen.
Dean stopped shoveling snow and stared at the two four-snowball snowmen in front of Cas.
"I..."
Cas stopped perfecting the snowmen and looked up at Dean. His blue eyes matched beautifully with the snowy landscape. Dean shivered even though he was burning up inside.
"I love you," Dean whispered.
Cas tilted his head but smiled. "I love you too, Dean."
