[FOUR] Dinner for One

"Hi, Dean." Castiel greeted with a nod, awkwardly exiting the bathroom stall, his hands behind his back.

"Uh, hi." Dean waved, his eyes searching the man's appearance. Castiel was still wearing a wrinkly trench coat and a suit with a blue, backwards tie. His messy, dark hair, though, could only be described as "sex hair." Dean would know, he's woken up with hair like his before.

"I was just... relieving myself. I didn't mean to interrupt you or anything." Castiel explained, his vibrant blue eyes unable to meet Deans'. Castiel shifted on his feet and readjusted his hands like he was holding something behind his back. Dean was curious.

"Uh, yeah, that's what bathrooms are for. But, whatever, it's fine." Dean muttered, eager to change the subject. Castiel nodded, shifting slightly in place.

Dean raised an eyebrow. "So, buddy, what you got there?"

Castiel looked flustered, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water.

"Oh, it's nothing... just you know..."

"No... I don't really know."

"It's a sin to lie."

"Uh, yeah, sure. So, ya gonna spill or do I have to kick ya out?"

Castiel sighed, his jaw tightening. He slowly showed what he was hiding behind his back, and to be honest, Dean almost laughed out loud. In his hands, was an opened jar of honey and a half eaten Uncrustable PB&J sandwich.

"Oh, Cas—"

"—I didn't want to get yelled at again for taking food without paying, but I was unfortunately unaware of how hungry you can get without food for an entire day." Castiel explained, his eyes moving back and forth across Dean's face. Castiel didn't want Dean Winchester to be ashamed of him. He felt rather fond of Dean already, even if they only spoke once.

Dean sighed, rubbing his face in his hands. "I dunno what to tell you, Cas— can I call you Cas?"

Castiel nodded, a faint smile forming on his lips.

"Well, okay, Cas. Can you at least tell me why you keep taking food and not paying for it? I mean, are you just a bum who can't afford it? Or are you some cheap ass who gets a kick out of making people's life's more difficult?" Dean asked, intrigued. He really doubted Cas was stealing food just to be a jerk, but from what Dean has dealt with in the past, you are never really sure.

Cas violently shook his head. "No, I'm just unsure of how this life works. I believe, according to a friend I met sleeping in a park, to "make money n get bitches," you have to acquire a job of sorts, but I'm uncertain of how that works. My friend wasn't very helpful in providing information. I'm just very new to these human things."

"Wow, alrighty then." Dean breathed. He was quite certain now that Cas was homeless. A very clueless, innocent, homeless person who may need some mental help. But, he seemed kind at least. And, not to mention, unusually attractive. Shaking his head, Dean pulled out his wallet and took out a 10 dollar bill.

"Here," he said, shoving the bill towards Cas. "Take this and pay for the food you have there. You won't get in trouble this way."

Cas tilted his head slightly, his eyes studying Dean's actions. "You're just... giving me your money?"

"Well," Dean shrugged, "I can't have you go to jail a few days before Christmas Eve because you stole a sandwich. It'd make for a good story, but it'd be kinda shitty."

"I stole honey, too." Cas admitted, his eyes dropping to the floor. "I really like honey and peanut butter. It's way better than pears."

Dean couldn't help the twitch of a smile that tugged at his lips. Cas was weird, but he was likable. He had that adorable puppy kind of vibe.

"Well, if you wanna keep that jar of honey and your sandwich, take the money, pay for it, and go home. Got it, Cas?" Dean instructed, carefully sliding the money into Cas' coat pocket.

"Thank you, but I don't have a home anymore." Cas mumbled, frowning. He tried not to think about it, but getting kicked out of his only home was a sore subject to talk about.

Dean's face softened, his eyebrows turning down in sympathy. He realized that he could relate to Cas in a way. Dean wasn't really kicked out of his home, but he certainly never had a real one, either. Cas was alone, kind of like Dean. He was off on his own, just trying his best and getting through the day. Feeling rather sympathetic at the moment, Dean stepped forward, placed a hand on Castiel's shoulder and pulled him into a hug.

This is not something Dean would usually do, like, ever. But, Dean truly felt sorry for the guy. And, hell, Christmas was in a week, tis the season.

Dean tried his best to make the hug as un-awkward as possible, but it didn't really help when Cas didn't even hug him back.

"What are you doing?" Cas asked, his voice muffed and hot against Dean's neck.

Dean quickly pulled away, immediately regretting his attempt at being kind. Hadn't he learned?

"Sorry, I— I just thought you could use some comfort. I just felt bad, I mean... eh, it's nothing. I'm sorry. I crossed the line, so I apologize."

Cas tilted his head again, like a puppy with an over sized head would. "Wrapping your arms around another person is a form of comfort?"

Dean frowned. "Have you never had a hug before?"

Cas shook his head slowly. "I'm unfamiliar with this hugging concept."

"Now I really wanna give you a hug." Dean mumbled, raising his eyebrows in surprise.

How can someone who's as old as me never had a hug before? Depressing. Dean thought, shaking his head.

"I'm curious to try this hug again." Cas admitted, narrowing his eyes.

Dean, who was still a little shocked, eventually nodded in agreement. This was probably one of the weirdest days he's ever had. This time, Cas stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Dean's hips, both of his hands resting on his ass.

Dean jumped back, flustered and blushing a deep red. "Woah, Woah! Easy, tiger. Hands north of the equator, ya. Please?"

"Oh, oops." Cas apologized, moving his hands up so he was hugging Dean's torso. "I'm learning."

Shaking his head and joining back into the hug, Dean wrapped his arms around Cas' shoulders. His cheeks were still hot, but he was quickly regaining his normal color. Dean tried to keep his dignity for the first couple seconds, but he couldn't help himself as he slowly melted into the hug.

To be honest, Dean expected Cas to be boney and thin from not eating, but he felt surprisingly warm in his arms. And, to make it even better, Cas eventually rested his head on Dean's shoulder. Dean hadn't realized he was holding his breath until he began to feel dizzy. So, he cleared his throat while patting Cas on the back, and slowly pulled away from his grasp.

"That's what a hug is like," Dean said, laughing lightly. He joked about it, but he suddenly felt cold without Cas in his arms. He felt an urge to wrap his arms around Cas, just to feel the warmness again.

Cas nodded, a goofy lopsided smile on his lips. Cas didn't want to admit to Dean that really liked hugs now, but, he really likes hugs now.

"Well, u-um," Dean stuttered, clearing his throat again. He wasn't sure what Cas was thinking just then, but the way his eyes shined, even in the crappy bathroom lighting, made him want to smile all goofy too. "You should probably go pay for those— things. I gotta clean. Now. Yeah."

Cas looked down at the food in his hands, and glanced at the money in his pocket. He almost forgot he had them in his hands when he was giving Dean a hug. He almost forgot that there was actual money in his pocket. And, he also forgot about how hungry he was.

"Oh, yes. I should go do that." Cas said, blinking a couple times.

"Yep..."

"Well, I will see you around, Dean."

"Oh, I'm sure you will."

"Good bye, Dean."

"Bye, Cas."

Cas stared at Dean for a couple moments before heading out the bathroom door. And, to be honest, Cas could have stood for another hour just to look at Dean. He wasn't sure why yet, but he just really liked to be in Dean's presence.

Once Cas left the bathroom, and the door swung shut, Dean turned towards the bathroom's mirror again. It was still the same face staring back, but something was slightly different. Dean felt different. And, it was a damn good different.

He quickly shook his head and turned away from the mirror. He walked over to the closet, unlocked the door and pulled out the cleaning supplies.

"I swear," Dean muttered as he got to work. "That was the straightest hug I've ever had with a guy. Yeah."
