Part 22

Third person point of view:

Natasha was running through the snow being chased by something. She knew she needed to get away they were going to take something from her if she didn't. Her foot got caught on something hidden beneath the snow and she fell straight down. When she fell she lost the little lead she had on her attackers. They picked her up out of the snow and threw her in a car the next thing she knew she was on an operating table and a new baby's screams could be heard.

Natasha woke in a cold sweat feeling her stomach and insuring that tiny her baby bump was still there. She pushed her self against the headboard and tried to slow her breathing down before she woke up Clint, but was unsuccessful.

"Natasha what's wrong? Did you have a nightmare?" Clint asked sleepily.

"Yes, but I'm OK now. It was just a nightmare. I'm fine." Natasha said still trying to catch her breath.

"You don't sound fine. What happened? You haven't had one this bad since before you found out you were pregnant. What happened?"

"I was running from someone and they caught me then the next thing I knew I was strapped to an operating table and someone was taking the baby away from me." Natasha said with a haunted look in her eyes.

"It was just a dream Natasha. That didn't happen everything is going to be OK. I won't let anything happen to you or the baby as long as I am alive. Nothing is going to happen, OK?" Clint kissed Natasha on the forehead. "Let's try and go back to sleep it's only four. Today is a big day you need your rest."

"Clint why don't we just run? Leave this life behind. No one would ever find us. We could have a fresh start. We could leave before the baby is born, take Bruce with us. He could deliver the baby, he's been taking classes on how to do it. Clint we could be free from all of it."

"Natasha let's just go back to sleep. If you still feel this way after the procedure, we can talk about it then. Right now we just need to go back to sleep because the last idea we came up with at four in the morning almost got us killed." Natasha nodded and laid her head on Clint's chest listening to his breathing till he fell back asleep. When he was asleep Natasha snuck out of bed and got in the shower. She let the warm water rush over her fueling her thoughts of going on the run.  When she finished she dressed quickly pausing only for a moment to admire the small baby bump that was growing with each day.  Knowing that no one would be in the lab she made her way down and powered on the ultrasound machine. Natasha had done this many times when she was worried that the baby wasn't doing OK. Natasha put the freezing cold gel on her stomach and waved the wand wand around trying to find the baby, she was so focused that she didn't notice Clint walk in and sit in the chair beside her.

"Hey." Clint said softly trying not to scare her.

Natasha had found the baby and let go of the breath she was holding. "Sorry I left. I had to know."

"I know. That's how I know your going to make the best mother ever. You care so deeply about this kid, I don't know how you couldn't."

"Clint we made this. This baby is ours. They always told me I couldn't, but look at me now, look at us now. Had anyone told me this was going to happen five months ago, let alone five years ago. I would have laughed them out of the room. Thank you for this Clint. Thank you for everything. I'm sorry about last night. I don't know what happened. I'm so sorry. I.. I just."

"Tasha you don't have to explain anything to me. I know what you went through in the Red Room, what they put you through. It's indescribable. I know you want the baby and I know that this isn't a mistake. I know that we aren't a mistake, which is why I bought you that ring. I want to spend the rest of my life you and the baby, and if you want to spend the rest of your life on the run. I'll run as fast and as far as you want, you've always felt safer there and so have I. As long as we're together nothing can stop us."

"Thank you Clint."

"One condition though. I want the baby to be born here, because I know you won't go to the hospital when the baby is born, and neither of us is medically trained. I don't want anything to happen to either of you, because of me."

"Deal." Natasha said as she brought Clint in for a kiss and they held it for a while.

"What the hell are you two doing down here?" Tony yelled interrupting Natasha and Clint's kiss, as him and Bruce walked in.

"What's it look like we're doing Stark?" Clint snapped back.

"Well if I had to wager a guess I'd say you two were about to get it on. But now that I see that the ultrasound machine is on." Tony gasped "Are you two celebrating twins?"

"No!" Natasha and Bruce both screamed at the same time. "I mean there is only one baby." Natasha said quickly composing herself.

"Exactly there is only one baby. No more no less. Speaking of the baby you two want to find out the gender before it's born, right?" Bruce asked Natasha and Clint, and they both nodded their heads. "That's great."

"Why does everyone keep asking if we want to find out the gender of the baby before it's born?" Clint asked confused.

"No reason. Are we ready to remove the tracking device?" Bruce asked.

"We're sure this won't hurt the baby, right? Because if it will I won't go through with it." Natasha said firmly.

"The surgery won't hurt the baby. We're going to give you harmless pain medicine and very light sedatives so the baby won't be harmed. And the body scan won't hurt the baby, so are we ready to get started?" Bruce explained calmly and Natasha nodded holding Clint's hand. "Great, Jarvis are you ready?"

"I thought you would never ask." The A.I said happily. "Beginning body scan now. Body scan complete. Agent Romanoff is most certainly with child."

"Yeah that's great J, but we don't need a full med history, we just need to know where the device is." Tony said cutting off Jarvis.

"Very well then. Agent Romanoff has a foreign device directly above her right hip, embedded in her back muscle. It should not be very difficult to remove, the device does not appear to be very deep and seems to be one inch in diameter."

"Perfect. Thank you Jarvis. I will go over Natasha's full medical history with you later." Bruce thanked the A.I. "Alright lets go down to the med wing so we can start the procedure." They four gathered into the elevator and rode in silence. The ride was short and they arrived on the floor that was white and sterile looking, there were three hospital beds and an operating room on one side of the room and an x-ray and M.R.I machine on the other side. The four made their way into the operating room and Bruce started an IV on Natasha, as the pain medicine entered her system Natasha calmed down and began to relax.

"Hey Natasha I'm going to put this oxygen mask on you so I know that your breathing, OK?" Bruce said kneeling down so that Natasha could see him through the hole in the table where her head was. Natasha nodded her head sleepily and held Clint's hand. It didn't take long for Natasha to fall asleep after Bruce put her on the oxygen and the surgery began quickly after that.

Bruce made a small incision, two inches above Natasha's right hip, with help from Jarvis he was able to remove the device that was causing problems. The device was an inch in diameter and on the underside had two capital R's inscribed in it.

"Well we just confirmed who was after Nat and the baby." Tony announced to Clint who was still holding Natasha's hand.

"Red Room?" Clint asked.

"Yeah. After I finish stitching Nat up you guys need to call Fury. We have taken care of the Red Room for now, but we now need to deal with the fact our government is after her." Bruce said while working on Natasha.

"I don't exactly understand why the government is after her. I mean she is an Avenger for christ sake. I mean she has only saved the world twice now. I mean if that isn't enough for the government to make her a citizen then I don't know what is." Tony said angrily, tripping over his words a couple of times.

"Tony I know you care about her, we all do, but I've never seen you this pissed off about something happening to Nat. What 's going on?" Bruce asked.

"What's going on is that two of our team members are having a baby. I can't say anything about it, because we might have to pretend that it's mine and Pepper's. Clint's getting shipped off to god knows where in a month, while his wife is pregnant. Natasha is going to have a baby in less than five months and the government wants to ship her back to Russia, the country that wants to turn her back into a mindless killing machine. What do I have to not be pissed off about?"

"How the hell do you about that mission?" Clint asked.

"How do you think? I hack into S.H.I.E.L.D every week. Nat has saved all of our asses too many times to count and the one time she needs our help, we can't do anything. How are we supposed to protect the Earth from an alien invasion, when we can't even protect our own?" Tony said angrily.

"Tony I know your pissed and so am I. Hell we all are. We need to come up with a plan with out Fury we need to..." Bruce was cut off by Clint.

"We don't need to come up with anything me and Nat have it under control."

"Wait. I have an idea. I'm not sure it will work, but let me make some calls. I think it might solve the government issue." Tony said sprinting up the stairs.

"Stark! Stark! What are you?" Clint yelled, but he was already gone.

"Well Nat's all stitched up. She should be waking up soon. I really didn't need to sedate her, but I know how she reacts to medical procedures so I thought it would be for the best, also I don't know how well the baby is handling all the stress she is under. I just want to be cautious. Can you make sure she doesn't rip her stitches tonight? I should be able to take them out in the morning because of her enhancements." Bruce said to Clint.

"Of course Doc. Thank you for taking care of the both of them. We wouldn't know what to do without you. In a month I have to leave for a mission, I will be gone for two weeks, Nat will be OK without me, right?"

"Knowing Nat she'll be fine, but if she isn't we'll take care of her. Just don't drop the mission on her last minute." Bruce said walking out of the room.

Clint sat down in the chair next to the operating table Natasha was on. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and stared at the picture on his lockscreen. It was a picture of him and Natasha dancing from the night she told him he was going to be a father. Sam had taken it and sent it to him. It was one of his favorite pictures on Earth. He stared silently until Natasha started stirring.

"Clint?" Natasha called for him.

"Hey Nat. The surgery went great. They got the device out and Bruce is analyzing it now. He wants you to rest for the rest of the day, just to make sure the stitches don't rip."

"How's the baby doing?" Natasha asked yawning.

"The baby is doing perfect. Bruce hooked up a monitor so he could see it's heartrate." Clint said pointing to one of the many screens around her.

"Perfect. I need to talk to Pepper. Can you help me up?" Natasha said starting to get up. Clint helped her remove her monitors and walked with her to the elevator. "When I finish talking to Pepper we can start talking about baby names with the rest of the team."

"That sounds amazing. I'll call everyone up and have them meet in the living room in half an hour. I'll bring the big poster board we have, so we can write down names." Clint said giving her a kiss on the forehead and sending her to talk to Pepper.
