childhood
"(Y/N), I'm going out, I'll be back, food's in the fridge. Don't burn down the house ( OH MY GOD THE FLASHBACKS ), ok?" your mother said. She slammed the door shut without waiting for an answer.
"Yeah, whatever. At least I won't have to deal with you," you muttered. You wished your dad were here.
You pulled out your sketchbook and thought about everything that had happened today. It was your first day home and you had already met two new friends, lost three, bawled your eyes out, and missed your dad. This was going to take a little adjusting to get used to.
You looked down at the sketch you had made, and realized that you had drawn Susie. Your face heated as you shut the book, suddenly feeling extremely uninspired. You sighed and laid on your bed. The glow stars on the ceiling ( A A A A A H H ) shone lightly in the soft light of your room. You allowed your mind to wander.
Your mind drifted to old memories. You and Charlotte sat in your room, wearing your mom's makeup and shoes.
You laughed as you smeared bright red lipstick across Charlotte's lips. Her bright blue eyeshadow had been smeared halfway across her face. She giggled, and her curly blonde hair bounced on her shoulders.
"You look fabulous, Charlie darling," you said in a crappy British accent.
"Why thank you, (N/N), you look absolutely stunning yourself," she responded, mirroring your accent. You both laughed. Outside your door, your parents could just barely be heard fighting.
"Regina, how many times do you want me to accept this?! Hours! Hours you've been gone! And when you come home, you drink. You drink, and you yell, and you scream, and you fight-"
"Do you have a problem with how I spend my time?"
"Yes! You have a daughter! You should be taking care of her, not going out and drinking and leaving her alone while I'm at work! You didn't even feed her last night!"
"That little prune doesn't need it! She's already hefty enough, the last thing she needs is-"
"There you go again! She is your daughter! You have birth to her, and you don't even care about her! How can you live like that!?"
"I need to get out of here."
"Oh yeah, sure thing Regina, go run off to your bottle and drink away your worries! Call up your friends and complain! Pull all your stupid shit, just don't be surprised when you come back one day and your daughter and I aren't here!"
You snapped back to reality. You realized that tears were streaming down your face and wiped them away. You pulled out your phone and pressed on your dad's contact.
"Hey, dad..."
