Chapter Two | New Girl
Like any other sane person would do. I ignored the message.
The text was obviously a prank from someone in our school, we usually got emails for our community service projects. I would know, I signed up for it last year and enjoyed it so much that I'm doing it without the school's involvement.
Today was the first 'real' day of school. We spent last Friday sorting timetables and extra-curriculum activities. I was feeling a bit weird. Am I sick? Oh wait! That's the feeling of the last first day of school ever!!
I was excited. Soon I'd be free of that establishment, built to imprison young people and stop us from enjoying life by keeping us stuck in a building for eight hours a day. However, my mood changed as soon as I found out someone had stolen my gym! My skipping stopped and I stormed to my form class.
The first words out of mouth as soon as I had entered the classroom was, "Has anyone seen Ashton?"
A few people point in his direction, knowing better than to stop me. Ashton stood in a corner without a care, but not for long. I tapped on his shoulder, waiting for him to turn around.
"I'm going to murder you! We had a deal... How could you take my gym away?"
"Well you had such a weak hold of it. It was begging for a strong leader like myself" he smirked, his green eyes filled with humour. He ran his fingers through his blonde hair, enjoying the fact he had my gym.
"Well I'm going to get both of them now." Team Mystic is going down.
"I thought with your new blue hair you'd appreciate a change in gym colour. Anyway, my Gyarados stronger than any of your Pokemon..." He referred to my blue ombre hair, whilst I just glared at him.
"My hair has nothing to do with my team! Anyway, you'll be busy a football practice whilst I go after school and paint the town red," I argued. Team Valor for the win!
"Whatever," he replied, knowing fully well that I had kind of won. Ashton hardly spoke to anyone outside his friends, so I knew that my ten minute quota had been used up for the day. It surprised a lot of people when we started talking, when honestly we were just comparing pokemon, until he chose the wrong team.
"Alright guys. Settle down and let me finish all these announcements and the register..."
Our form tutor, Mr Carter, was quite chilled and let us do whatever we wanted as long as we didn't make too much noise and stayed inside the classroom.Everyone took their seats and waited for everything to be quickly to be done so they could carry one with whatever they were busy with before.
"... Also those of the students who signed up for community service should've received either a text message or email this weekend. The text message is a new system because some people don't check their emails often enough. You know how it goes so you better follow instructions."
What? So the message wasn't a joke? We will just have to wait and see, maybe I would get another text or email later. There was a knock on the door in the middle of an announcement about some other club. In walked the headteacher, Mr Collins, and a girl, most likely a new student.
The girl's face was covered by straight raven hair as she stared at the ground, avoiding any eye contact with us. Mr Collins started a bit of a welcome back speech, and boasted a bit about the school for the girl's sake. We already knew what the school was like. Mr Collins then turned towards Mr Carter and had a quiet word.
My phone vibrated, causing me to sit up straighter. As discretely as possible, I took it out my jean pocket and clicked the home button.
Make sure you're picked to show the new girl around no matter what.

What now? I tuned back into what Mr Collins was now addressing the class,"Make sure you make Emma feel welcomed. I sure someone with help you around the school. I need to get going now."
Mr Collins left the classroom. My phone vibrated again. This time I could take it out causally as Mr Collins wasn't around.
Now is your chance to volunteer.

Helping out a new kid sounded ordinary enough. "Sir!" I waved my arm in the air to get his attention, "Let me show Emma around..."
"Ella, I was thinking of letting Ashton do it," he said looking in Ashton's direction. Why would he even think that's a good idea? Ashton hates talking to people.
"No!" I protested. A few of my classmates turned to look at me whilst some gave me the typical 'wtf' look. I suppose I did look crazy by being so forceful.
"Why?" Mr Carter asked curiously. If I told you that I got a text message telling me I had to do it, would you believe me?
"Umm... Ashton already stole my gym and now you're going to let him take away my new friend," I lied, well sort of. My inner drama queen should do the trick to get his to agree.
Ashton had tuned into the conversation as soon as he heard his name. "What did I do now?"
"Nothing Ashton, it seems Ella is eager to make new friends... Emma, why don't you go sit with Ella, she'll help you out with anything you need until you get used to everything." Mr Carter pointed Emma in my general direction.
Emma sat next to me and we made small talk and compared timetable. We shared quite a few class. I think I'll get Emily to take her to some classes. It took a little while before she got more comfortable with talking to me.
"So what was that whole gym thing about earlier?" Emma asked.
"Oh that... It's just to do with Pokemon Go! There's only two gyms in this town. One in old town, which is a church, and another in new town, which is an actual gym." I explained.
"Oh! I thought you guys were fighting about an actual gym for a second," Emma said.
"Haha... No, do you play Pokemon Go? Oh wait, where do you live?" I asked. I might be able to get her to join me on my quest to catch 'em all.
"Oh no I don't, but my younger brother does. He's on umm the yellow team, I think! I'll introduce you to him. Oh and I live in new town" she replied.
We continued to get to know each other for the rest of registration. I told her the best places to hang out and a bit about Emily, who would also help show her to some classes, once I got the chance to introduce them to each other. Just after the bell rang, my phone vibrated on my desk.
Congratulations on completing the first task. I must say, you put on quite a performance.

"Hey Ella, how do I get to my first class?" Emma called, my attention away from my phone. We didn't have the first same lesson so I hate to show her quickly.
"What? Oh just wait, for me I'll show you the way." I quickly grabbed my stuff and we made our way to Emma's first lesson.
Well that's wasn't a creepy message at all...
