Chapter Thirty Four | Revelations
The combination of nerves, excitement and curiosity was probably one of the worst combination of emotions.Theses emotions lead to a night of tossing and turning with a side of checking the time every ten minutes. Usually I would be grumpy from a night like the one I just spent but I was pumped.
I was paced back and forth in my room until it was time to go to school. I made sure to grab the letter as it was my ticket to answers. Today's the day I get answers. Finally!
I did a weird walk of skipping and jumping to school. The house was empty and I was sure that school would be relatively empty with everyone getting ready for the charity ball. At least I won't run into any curious students.
Once I arrived at school, I stopped to collect myself. One half of me was ready to demand answers and the other half was ready to run home and pretend nothing ever happened. Everything will turn out fine. The worst case would be having to take up a new community service project.
I had a couple of minutes to spare when I arrived at the office. I showed the letter and was told to be seated until I was called upon. I continued to reassure myself as I waited to be called in. Why can't they hurry up and call me in? Don't they see I'm ready to run in the opposite direction?
"Ella, please come in and have a seat," Mr Collins said from the open door of his office.
I walked in slowly, expecting someone else inside but there was no one there. The office looked exactly like it did last time. This wasn't making much sense. I took a seat whilst Mr Collins returned to his chair behind his desk. Does that mean...?
"Yes Ella, I'm in charge of CC. I've always had an interest in- what do you kids call it- ah yes, shipping," Mr Collins answered my silent question. Too many thoughts swirled in my mind, I didn't know what to say so I blurted out the biggest one. How? When? Who?
"But you always did opposite to what was wanted by CC. Like Emma being helped by Ashton and the tutoring thing between Emily and Jacob!?" I accused him. How did he manage though?
"Those were just tests and you passed," he dismissed.
"Okay but it still doesn't make sense how you knew what was going on all the time. You have THREE different contact numbers?" I demanded answers. I had been running around for the last two weeks for CC, I might as well find out what I want.
"Well there's more than just me behind the company. I can't be everywhere at once but I was the first one to inform you about everything," he stated shuffling through some papers.
"Who?"
"If I answer, will you let us continue with the original reason for this meeting?" He sighed.
"Yes!"
"Well there's Mr Carter and your Uncle Mark who helped with some tip offs. Also yourself, my son and a few other students..." he trailed off thinking about all the numerous amount of students. My Uncle? We are so going to have words later on.
"Oh, well let's continue with the review stuff." I let him off as promised but that doesn't mean I'll try to get more information from him.
"You were very successful for a new recruit. I see that you managed to get Antonio off Eva's case. It seems he will also be leaving town next week so that's good. You also somehow got Jacob and Emily paired off with other people so hey hopefully won't be crossing paths this year. Ashton was done really well on your side as well as Emma. However someone else failed Ashton but that shouldn't have anything to do with you." Mr Collins flicked through some pages whilst looking for something.
"So what does this all mean?" I really was full of questions today.
"Well seeing as you've done an excellent job, I'd like to offer you a better job with Cliche Cops," he stated. More running around and interfering? I think I'd prefer to end my final year with less adventure. It's all fun and games until you get caught and I don't want to get caught.
"Um no thanks, but couldn't you have thought of something better for CC?" I tried to change the direction of the conversation away from my rejection of his offer.
"That's a shame but the offers always open. As for the name, we thought Charlie Collins, the original name, was too obvious so we had other suggestions like Chaotic Containment, Coupling Club, Careful Coupling and a few other variations. Really Cliche Cops was a bit better than most of them," he answered.
"CC makes me thinks of The Cheaters Club," I replied honestly.
"The what?" He looked confused.
"Umm, They're just another set of really good stories on this website," I vaguely replied. But seriously those are some awesome stories...
"Okay then. Well that concludes our meeting. You were a very good recruit and project." He stood up, ready to show me to the door. A what?
"A project?" I questioned once again. Too many questions, not enough answers I say.
"What are you talking about Ella?" he looked confused. Why couldn't he be more straight forward.
"Um nothing, I'll see you on Monday Mr Collin," I greeted as I walked out.
"Yes, I'll see you tonight Ella," he replied before shutting the door. I just want answers. Is that too hard?
"Maybe I should anonymously send him demanding notes," I mumbled under my breath.
I still had a few questions but for now I would go home and enjoy my long weekend of sleep and homework. Then during the next week I could go find out anything else I needed to know.
I was walking out the door of the school when I bumped into Calvin, who was also leaving the school building. Well looks like I might be able to get a few more answers.
"Hey Ella," Calvin innocently greeted. I narrowed my eyes in suspicion.
"So what exactly is your community service project?" I interrogate. Of course I already knew the answer but it would be fun to see home sweat for a bit.
"Um you know the usual stuff I do every year," he answered.
"Oh so I suppose you dad was mistaken when he said you're apart of Cliche Cops," I replied indifferently. Don't even try and deny it.
"I suppose the cats out the bag..." he mumbled, defeated. Finally, I can get ALL my answers sorted before the weekend.
"You've got some questions to answer!" I demanded. I hooked on to his elbow, ready to drag him somewhere to talk.
"Answers?" he skeptically glanced at me. I tightened my grip in case he wanted to run.
"Yes," I firmly responded.
"They come with a price though," he said suddenly a little too smugly.
"What is it?" I cautiously asked. It can't be that bad right? He probably just wants free food or something..
"I want you to be my date to the Charity Ball."

What is he doing?
