Chapter Four | Risky Texts

Each community service project lasted different amount of times. Usually you knew how much time you gave up. So far my current project seemed to be a bit of a mystery.

It was the last period of the day, which also was my free period today. Stupid school rules said I couldn't leave the premises of the day and I should study. Who can even study at the end of the day? I just want to go home and sleep!

I was sitting at one of the many tables in the study hall by myself. The table was in the corner away from the sunlight that streamed through the large windows that decorated the walls. It was a relatively empty session so I could've slept if I wanted to. I sat with my books opened and a few pens scattered to make it look like I was working if any teachers walked. I'm pretty sure everyone hates the you-should-study-and-not-waste-time lecture that teachers gave us as the wasted our time.

I hadn't received another text message from CC after I helped Emily. The text messages were brought back to my attention when my mum sent me a message.

Will be home later. Warm up leftover pizza to snack on. xx

After a quick reply of ok, I started to look over the messages from CC. It turned out I received messages from two different numbers! The more informative messages were from one number whilst the others were from the 2nd number. The 2nd number's messages were sent as if they could see me...

Could they see me? Or was I being paranoid? Who was CC and what did it stand for? I could just ask...right?

My thumbs hovered over the keyboard on my screen. Too many questions and not a single clue of whether I'll get an answer or not. I wasn't even sure which number to try!

I should try... I mean what's the worse that could happen? No reply?

I decided to go with the 2nd number and typed out one of my many questions but decided against it and deleted it. Maybe something less curious than what does CC stand for, how about:

How long does this project last?

I pressed send before I changed my mind and quickly locked my phone. I stared at the blurred words as I twisted a piece of my hair with my fingers. I shouldn't have done that...

I contemplated the consequences of my actions as I glanced at my phone every few seconds. Should I have added a thank you at the end? Why wasn't this as easy as my previous projects?  I'm doomed! My phone screen lit up.

Did I even want to see the reply?

To be honest, yes I do.

You have started on two mini projects. To get the full amount of credits , you will need to start on a third . Don't worry, you'll get details about the final one.
-CC

Two projects? What two projects? All I did was help Emily and Emma. Was this even for real. At least I got a reply... Maybe I can find out more?

What is the outcome of the projects?

The replies for my messages came almost instantly. It was as if CC was waiting for me ask questions. Maybe he was and maybe this was my only chance to get some answers.

Refer to the first message. Really it's quite simple...you should know the main rule by now!
-CC

Ok I will, so when can I meet up to discuss what hours I'll be putting in?

Also what does CC stand for?

The main thing is not the hours you put in but getting  the right outcome.
Btw CC stands for Cliche Cop  XD XD
-CC

Seriously? I thought they would be your initials or is it the name of the company or something...

It is the name of the company but as for initials... You might be onto something ;)
-CC

Okay so it is your initials?

Maybe.
Maybe not.

"Boo!" Someone whispered into my ear as they grabbed my shoulders from behind. I jumped slightly and dropped my phone onto the table. So luck would have it, it landed screen down on the table. I turned and glared at the person who surprised me.

"Jacob! What the hell? Look at what you made me do!" I gestured at my phone and sent a silence prayer. Please let my screen be fine! Yes! My poor baby is fine!

I held my phone to my chest hugging in relief.

"You did that all by yourself neighbour!" Jacob replied.

Meanwhile Calvin, his friend, made himself comfortable at my table. He sat with his feet on the table leaning back on his chair with his arms crossed behind his head. His chocolate hair was slightly ruffled and he was laughing at me. His coffee eyes filled with amusement.

Jacob grabbed a seat on the other side of me. I grabbed the seat of Calvin's chair and pushed it back on all four legs. He looked a bit startled. At least he's stopped laughing.

"So boys, what brings you to my corner of the world?" I asked.

"Boredom." They said in unison.

"And what do you suspect I'll do about that? Huh?" I replied

"You could-"

"Well-"

"Nothing," I cut both of them off as they started. Last time I helped them cure their boredom, I ended up running around the school, knocking on classroom doors of unsuspecting classrooms. I must admit I had a lot of fun but right now I was too tired to get up to such nonsense.

"Please!" Jacob tried to convince me.

"Nope, not today... I'm too tired to run around with you guys," I replied.

"Oh come on it was fun wasn't it?" Calvin tried to persuade me.

"Yes, but you'll have to carry me because I don't feel like moving at the moment." I really wasn't in the mood to run. Running is just too much work anyway.

"Fine," they both grumbled.

"Anyway, who were you texting earlier?" Jacob curiously asked.

"My boyfriend," I replied in a straight face.

They both just laughed at me. They knew I was only messing with them and I was only talking to one of my parents. Really guys. You don't have to emphasis my forever alone status!

I mockingly glared at them both. The joke was honestly on them for actually believing me the first time only to read the messages from my mother about getting bread after school.

"Whatever losers. Anyways, Jacob seeing as you're my new neighbour... You can give me lifts when I'm running late!" Might as well use him to my advantage.

"What? Are you just using me?" He replied.

"No," I stretched out the vowel sound. We all knew I was lying.

"She totally is man, you shouldn't give her any lifts!" Calvin added.

"Well I can give you lifts in the morning if I haven't been busy with someone... If you get what I mean," Jacob added a wink at the end.

"TMI! I didn't need to know that," I responded whilst I made gagging gestures. Gross... I didn't need to know about that...

"Haha, just send me a message to let me know in the morning. Calvin sometimes picks me up. We take turns," Jacob said as he took out his phone to check something.

"Don't worry, I'll pick you up too considering you live across the road," Calvin said as he patted my head.

"Thanks," I replied. Our conversation shifting into other topics as we entertained ourselves for the remainder of the period. However, I couldn't help my thoughts from drifting back to my conversations with CC. What was my third mini project?
