Chapter Eighteen | Pokemon Hunting
After school, Ashton and I made our way to Emma's house to pick up Mark.
We sat in a comfortable silence, as some generic pop song played on the radio. Ashton leisurely drove to her house whilst I organised us some food for later, via text. Today we would be searching for Pokemon in New Town.
Ashton parked outside and I sent Mark a quick message to let him know we're outside. The door to the house opened.
"Come in!" Mark shouted before disappearing into the house.
Ashton and I exchanged a look before slowly getting out of the car. We didn't want to look rude. The hallway was was plain white and there were a few unopened boxes and bubble wrap in the corner. Everything was bare and still getting set up.
We both looked at each before shrugging and taking out our phones. I started a game of Candy Crush whilst I waited. I was so engrossed in the game I didn't hear someone walking into the hall.
"Hey Ashton," they said.
I looked up to see Emma playing with her hair. Her body facing away from me in an attempt to exclude me. Fine by me, it's not like I want to join the amazing conversation you're about to have.
"Hi..." Ashton shuffled. He kept fidgeting with his phone. Emma dived into a trivial conversation about school and Ashton nodded when appropriate. I just returned to my game like the invisible person I was.
However Ashton was lucky enough to escape when Mark called from the top of them steps, "Ashton can you come up here? I need you help."
Everyone, including Emma, stopped at the sound of his voice. Ashton dashed towards the steps, nearly tripping on some of them as he made his way up. I held my hand over my mouth to stop myself from laughing out loud.
Emma glared in my direction but I simply looked indifferent before looking down on my phone. She made a sound of irritation. Damn, I'm out of lives that means I'll have to talk to her now...
"Can I help you?" I held eye contact with Emma. She didn't back down for a few seconds.
"You think you own every guy in school and that means the rest of us can't try," her hands curled up into fists. I hope she doesn't think I jump into a fight over some boys.
I blinked.
This wasn't the first time I'd been accused of something similar. It's just she's only known me for a few days and she's jumped to conclusions. I just don't think some people understand the concept of being one of the boys. Sometimes people's ignorance can really surprise.
"Umm actually it's called friendship... And being a tomboy helps with that," I said cautiously. I didn't want her to jump me.
"No I won't say-", she started before backtracking, "what..?"
I repeated what I just said slowly and waited for her response. All her fight seemed to leave her body as she went into deep thinking. Well it looks like I'll have to find something else to do whilst she thinks.
Whilst looking around for some way to entertain myself, I heard the boys run down the stairs. Mark opened the door and gestured for me to leave. As I walked out I turned to see Emma snapped out of thought.
Right now I didn't have time to know what was on her mind so I left because I needed to start walking so I could earn candy on this new buddy update. So much to do so little time.
We walked around New Town catching a few Pokemon and testing its latest feature. We approached the cafe so I left the guys to grab us some food.
I greeted a few people and went straight to the counter where I met Eva.
"Eva!" I gave her a half-hug, "I'll see you at the sleepover, I got to run," I said as I took the bag of food before turning to leave.
"I'll see you then!" Eva shouted as I made my way out.
Ashton and I showed Mark this old bench which was a pokestop. The bench marked some romantic gesture from the past. It was under a willow tree. There was a gold plate with two names and dates. George and Victoria seemed to have a love life with a health dose of romance if the bench is anything to go by. The spot was nicknamed Lovers Escape because no one can really see you under the willow tree.
I sat crossed leg and handed out the food, "I didn't know what you liked so I ordered you anything, just tell me if you want anything specific..."
"Oh thanks... I'm fine with this, I'll pay you back later." He took a bite of his food.
"You don't pay me back! I refuse. You can carry my stuff when I don't want to if you feel the need to repay me," I told Mark.
"Are you serious?" Mark turned to Ashton before I could reply, "Is she serious?"
Do I not look like a nice person? Is that really hard to believe? Ashton nodded as he continued to eat. Ashton actually drove us to the spots need. Food in exchange for being driven around sounds fair enough. We continued playing Pokemon Go! until it started to get dark.
We dropped Mark off first because he kept getting text messages about when he would be done. Emma opened the door and actually smiled and waved at me! I waved back whilst trying not to cringe. Okay, so what changed her mind so quickly? Is she really easily influenced?
I returned home and thanked Ashton as I made my way into the house. I quickly greeted my parents before flopping on to my bed. I closed my eyes for a few seconds before lifting my head slight see the envelope I received earlier.
I groaned.
What's going to happen in this meeting tomorrow?
