All the scouts are in the dining hall getting their breakfast. Eren and Armin walked towards the big table with their food.

"Hey, Eren? Is that a new jacket?", Armin asks Eren, whose eyes go big when he realises he's wearing the captain's jacket and not his own.
"Oh, uh, it's just an extra one I have since I spilled uh-jam on my regular one", he says quickly hoping Armin won't ask any more questions.

"Oh, ok...", Armin shrugs and continues to eat his breakfast.

Eren's eyes look around the room bored and then just lie in his arms, still tired after his late night the night before. Just as he lays his head on his arms, Levi comes striding in and catches a glimpse of Eren with his jacket on. Almost instantly a blush spreads on his cheeks so he just quickly makes his way to his seat, between Erwin and Hanji.

"Hey morning Levi", Erwin greets him friendly. "Morning", Levi says back casually, unaware that his cheeks are still cherry red. "Hi, Levi? Where's your jacket? And why is your face all red? I thought you were incapable of blushing!", Hanji throws her hands around dramatically, no one paying attention to her since she's always like that.

Levi's eyes go big and he blushes more than he already is.
"U-uh n-no, I'm not blushing, you nut! I took off my jacket because it's hot in here.", Levi says as he fans himself with his hands because he did get hot with all the blushing he did.

"Ok if you say so..", Hanji says and rolls her eyes at the blushing boy.

Erwin sighs and stands up, clearing his throat and demanding all his scouts' attention.

"Excuse me, everyone, I am just reminding you all about our mission later on today, please gather in the courtyard in 3 hours.", he finishes as everyone nods in agreement and starts to get ready for the mission.

~15 min before mission~

#EREN POV#

I need to hurry...before he comes back.

He scurries around Levi's room with a note and the jacket he lent to Eren the night before. He finds a place he thinks the captain will see and quickly leaves the room just as he hears someone coming down the hall towards the room.

#AUTHORS POV#

Just as Eren is hurrying down the hall, Levi comes down the hall to get some of his things for the mission. When he enters the room his eye catches something draped over his chair neatly with a piece of paper next to it.
He picks up the paper and opens it to find a note written in neat handwriting.

Hi heichou! (sorry may I call you that?)
Thanks for lending me your jacket last night... and for not asking for it back this morning in front of everyone...
Anyways, see you out there!

As he read it there appears a small smile on Levi's lips

"How cute can one person be...", he says to himself as he picks up his jacket and puts it on.

~15 min later~

All the groups are in their formations doing some last-minute check-ups. After a few more minutes they are all sitting and waiting for Erwin's signal.

As they wait they suddenly see a hand high up in the air... the signal...
"All scouts move out!", he shouts and all the scouts start to move out, forming their own group's respective pattern.

As Levi-squad moves out, Levi starts yelling orders at all of his group members.

"Petra you, Mike and Jake move east! Liam, Steve you go west! Eren and I will go north! Ok, everyone remember, if you see a titan you know what to do! Green smoke is far away, red is close. Ok, go! Good luck!", he shouts as his group moves in their direction.

After about 15 minutes of riding in silence, both looking around them for any titans, Eren speaks up.

"Captain? Do you see that?", Levi looks at Eren in confusion but the younger is looking in front of them trying to make out what it is he sees.

"See what?", he looks at Eren in confusion.
"Are those rocks up ahead?", he points to the objects approaching them.

"Are they moving?", he tries to look farther than he can see but all he sees are small black dots on the horizon.

His eyes go bigger than they already are."Those aren't rocks... they're titans!! And they're approaching fast!!", he says as he starts to panic.

"Oh, crap!! Eren! Smoke signal, BLACK now!!.", Levi shouts at Eren.

"Black?! What does that mean!", Eren shouts back at Levi.

"We're being ambushed. We're under attack! Shoot it now!!"

Eren loads the first smoke bomb and shoots it up in the air, forming a long black line in the blue sky. But no reply...
"They're not responding!", he screams at Levi in panic.

"Damn it! They must be out of range!", Levi shouts frustrated.
"What do we do now!", Eren asks panicking.

"Keep shooting 'till you get a response!"

"Copy that!", Eren shouts as he keeps reloading and shooting black smoke bombs. Meanwhile, Levi keeps looking at the fast-approaching titans, while Eren keeps shooting one after the other bombs, but when he's about to put another one in the pistol, the ground starts to shake viciously making Eren drop the pistol and smoke bombs. He barely stays on Hope while the ground shakes.

"What the hell!?-", he turns to Eren,"- why aren't you shooting?! We're in trouble!", he shouts at Eren.

"I dropped the pistol and bombs back there when the earth shook!", Eren shout back, panicked.

"You what!?", he turns back to where the Titans are fast approaching. "Well, looks like we're on our own now. You got any type of plan to get us out of here?", Levi looks at Eren hopefully.

Eren looks around for any kind of refuge. "no....wait! I see something! The forest! We can hide in the tallest trees, they won't reach us!", he screams as he points to the patch of tall trees only a few yards away from them.
"Fine! Let's go!", Levi takes the lead and steers Killer into the direction of the thick patch of trees.

Eren and Levi finally reach the forest but the Titans are very close to them now.

"How are we gonna get up there!?", Eren freaks out as he sees the Titans almost at the entrance of the forest.

Levi looks around for ways to get up the very tall trees when he realises what they're wearing!
"Our ODM gear! Quickly! Get up there!", he waits till Eren is up on the top of the tree safely before he uses his gear to go up the tree, nearly
getting caught by the closest titan.

When Levi reaches the top he lets out a breath of relief he didn't know he was holding in. Seconds later he is being tackled to the ground in one of Eren's hugs. "Oh my goodness! I'm so glad you're safe!", Eren almost starts crying on Levi's shoulder.

Levi awkwardly pats Eren's back, not sure if he should keep hugging Eren or not. "Yeah, I'm fine..."

They both look up when they hear the sound of hooves on the ground, they let go of each other and go to the side of the tree, hoping it's the other scouts coming to get them but when they look over the edge all they see is the backs of Hope and Killer as they're running away. Eren turns away slowly and sits down with his back facing Levi and starts to sob very softly.

When Levi turns around, he goes to stand behind Eren. "Uh...Eren? Are you crying?", he asks softly.

Upon hearing Levi's voice he sits up straight and stops sniffing. "N-no, I just got some dust in my eyes from the trip up here...", he tries to evade Levi's question.

"Come on, I know you're crying...", he says while sitting next to the emotional boy that still sniffs from time to time.

"Then why did you ask me if you knew I was crying, if you already knew the answer!?", Eren just started sobbing again.

"I-i don't know...I just did ok...", Levi looks down into his lap and plays with his fingers nervously.
Why did he ask? He didn't know...maybe he just didn't want Eren to cry anymore... Well, that backfired.

"sorry...", he barely hears the younger apologise.
"For?", he asks the boy, although it's obvious why the boy's apologising.
"For snapping at you just now, it wasn't fair of me... you were only asking.", he says softly while turning his head and giving Levi a small side smile.

"It's ok...we are in a difficult situation so I don't blame you.", he says comfortingly to Eren, while putting his hand on Eren's shoulder as a form of support and comfort. As they're just looking at each other, a weird, growling noise is heard and Eren's eyes grow big...

I can't believe this chapter is 1.5K words long!🤤 I think this is my longest chapter so far...
