Chapter Numbers Aren't Important in a Zombie Apocalypse

The day had started like any other, I woke up and got ready for work at the little 3 story library a few blocks from my apartment. I had taken my usual position behind the desk, and I've been here for five hours. So far we've only had about 8 or so people on the second floor. My coworker, Stacy, is on the first floor with all the little kids.

I was getting pretty board as I was watching Miss Barnt, a 73 year old woman, place books back on their shelves. Her shaky wrinkle covered hands slowly raising the books to the shelves as her flabby skin jangled about. Not to mention she's a ticking time bomb. You do the tiniest thing wrong you get 2 weeks off with no pay. I don't even want to know what would happen if I made a huge mistake.

I glanced at the clock on the computer, 12:10. "Miss Barnt I'm going on my lunch brake." She glared at me then nodded. I walked over to the office just in time to hear her mutter "Lazy teenagers." I rolled my vibrant green eyes.

I grabbed my lunch from the mini fridge in the back and went to turn on the tv, but before I could Stacy burst into the room, slamming the door shut behind her, locking it in place.

"What the heck are you doing?!"I screeched at her.

"Those guys!" she panted "They're back!".

I immediately knew who she was talking about. A few months earlier some guys had come in. They were old and crazy. They had been harassing Stacy trying to get her to go with them. She had managed to get a text to me unnoticed so I could call the cops. They had only been in jail for a few weeks after an unfair trial, but they hadn't bothered us since.

"What did they say?" I asked her reaching for my phone.

"T-they both had injuries that looked like teeth marks! H-human teeth marks! One of them had a huge chunk of his leg missing! They said they were going to save me! Take me with them!"

The entire time she was talking I was dialing the all to familiar numbers. When I lifted the phone up to my ear I was greeted with the mechanical voice of a woman telling me the line was busy. I dropped the phone to my side in defeat. Since when were the cops busy?

"What's wrong?" Stacy asked me. For the first time I noticed the pistol she gripped in her sweating hands. After the men came, each floor had been given two guns, one for the office and one for the front desk.

"Lines busy." I replied as if everything was cool.

"Since when have-", she started but she was cut off by a loud blood curdling scream from outside the office. "Miss Barnt!" I shouted running to the window beside the door. I couldn't see her anywhere but her wails were persistent until they suddenly stopped, replaced by strangled gasps. Finally it was silent.

I never liked Miss Barnt but no one deserved to be raped and killed.

(A/N careful with your language Lia! there could be children reading!)

I dashed over to the counter and ripped open the drawer revealing an array of weapons. There was a small black pistol identical to Stacy's along with a butcher and a pocket knife. Sitting securely in its case was a small hatchet in the back of the drawer. I grabbed them, tossing the pocket knife to Stacy. I was just about to unlock the door when a face smashed up against the window followed by another.

I almost didn't recognize them but there was no mistaking them. The two creeps. But there was something off about them. Their eyes were a blank pale white color, and slightly bloodshot. There skin was a light grayish color, stained with fresh blood, and true to Stacy's word they both had infected looking injuries on them. The veins around them were black and mushy.

They nashed their yellow fangs- I mean teeth at us. Drool falling sloppily from their mouths. (Geez I never thought I was that hot) They clawed at the window with rotting hands and chipped yellow finger nails. Their nostrils flared as they took in our scent. Stacy and I were holding onto each other, screaming at the top of our lungs.

Bang!

Bang!

They both slumped to the floor their blood splattering the window. Two faces appeared in the window. Nathan and Matt.
