The Past Does Not Define You
A/N: You can make a choice or you can be your past...
Mikoto: Hey Guys.
The Mikosquad turns to Mikoto whom looked like he had a question for all of them.
Mikoto: What do you guys think of Hawks?
It's been a couple of hours since Hawks came to their dorms prior to Tokoyami's request. At first, everyone was skeptical of the winged hero. But soon enough, most of the teens begin to slowly warm up to the number two Pro-Hero.
Past couple hours at the dorms, the students were just talking with Hawks. They all spoke to the Pro-Hero about their adventures. They told him all about U.A and their classmates, Hawks listened, seeming happy to hear about it.
He answered questions the students asked about the program or his agency, talked about his allies from the commission program like Lady Nagant, outside of the program like Miruko, The Purple Witch, Fat Gum, and Best Jeanest.
It was nice to sit there and just talk to the Pro-Hero to get to know him better.
Souta: Well. I can say this. He's pretty arrogant.
Sylvia: Like you sometimes.
Souta: Whatever. Anyway. Like I said. He's pretty arrogant but he's also pretty laid-back and goofy.
Sylvia: He also seems free-spirited.
Haru: It's like having him around make things lighthearted.
Mikoto couldn't help but agree. When he first saw Hawks during the billboard ranking. He didn't know how to feel about the Pro-Hero. His first impression made him seem like he was just another arrogant hero who was in it for publicity. But it turns out, he was more than that. Who would've thought underneath the winged hero whose all smiles and has a fanbase was scars & secrets no one knew.
Until now....
Mikoto: I suppose he isn't all that bad...
Sylvia: Yeah. Everybody else seems to like him.
Haru: Especially Jack and the others.
Suddenly a scream broke out. They looked on guard until they saw who was screaming.
Hawks: AHHHHHHHH!
Destiny: Get him!
Luna: Come back Hawks! I want you to try out this outfit! It looks good on you!
Hawks: AHHHHHHHH!
Mio: I worked hard on these clothes! Stop Running!
Maria: Why are you running?! I just want to rub your hair and preen your wings!
Oka: GET BACK HERE, I ALWAYS WANTED A BIRD PUPPET!
Hawks: AHHHHHHHH!
Luna: Okay that is something to scream and run about...
The girls were chasing the Pro-Hero all around the dorms with brushes & clothes they wanted to dress him up in. The Mikosquad stared in blank faces.
*SMACK*
Hawks: *K.O*...
After a few minutes of running, The girls then caught Hawks who was pleading for someone to save him as they dragged him into their rooms.
Hawks: HELP!!!
Haru:....
Kenji: His fan base is getting high...
Souta: Isn't he supposed to be the fastest...
Sylvia: Not in his condition...
Mikoto: What do you...wait...his wings...
Sylvia nodded knowing how effective fire is to feathers.
Mikoto pondered about the wings and remembered large burnt scar on Hawks' back...The main reason why he was injured and burned severely during the Paranormal Liberation Front...
Mikoto: (Touya...)
While Hawks' wings did grew back, but very slowly, due to how much damage Dabi's blue flames did to his back.
But Mikoto has a feeling the injury is more serious than usual and once the final war hits, Hawks' career as a hero is over almost as if it serves as some sorta karmic consequence of sacrificing his ideals to kill Twice for the commission.
The snow user wondered if there were something they could do for Hawks.
Mikoto: I probably need to talk to Lilac about this over his scar treatment.
~Later~
Hawks: I CAN'T believe he did that!
Class 1-C was watching Lion King with Hawks. They were at the scene where Scar killed Mufasa. The dramatic scene reduced Hawks to tears.
Hawks: How could Scar do that to his own brother!!! Poor Simba! Losing his father at such a young age!
Eito: Well at least he got better.
Samuel: Don't spoiled it for him Eito.
Jack: I'm pretty Scar did that to take control of the Pridelands & be the king.
Hawks: But still...His own family!
Zoe: I think there was a theory once that Mufasa and Scar aren't related.
Destiny: The theory kind of makes sense it you think about it...
Hawks: Ow!
Maria: Hold still!
Maria was trying to preen Hawks' wings but the pros hero couldn't help but feel uncomfortable due to the numbness his wings felt.
Hawks: Please be careful with those. They still hurt.
Maria: I know! I know! Just let me-?!
Hawks: Chirp!
Everyone stopped and stared at Hawks.
Souta:....Did you just?
Hawks: N-No! Of course not-! Chirp!
Maria continued to preen his wings as Hawks started making bird noises. He tried covering his mouth but it wasn't enough.
Destiny: OMG....
Sylvia: Cute...
Chassy: Very cute..
Hawks: This is embarrassing! Chirp!
Haru: There's nothing to be embarrassed about Hawks-san.
Kelly: I guess this confirms it then.
Hawks: Confirms what?!
Yin: That you are a heteromorph (mutant).
Hawks: How many times do I have too say it?! It's just the wings!
Zoe: You chirping and singing like a bird say otherwise.
Hawks groaned but didn't deny it.
Samuel: There's nothing to be ashamed about Hawks-san.
Souta: No one's here to judge you...
Akira: That's right nobody.
Mikoto: (Especially not the HSPC...)
Hawks: *Sighs* There's no beating you kids is there?
Luna: Nope. We're gonna dote on you whether you like it or not.
Hawks: But I am not your pet!
Maria: No one said you were.
Hawks just sighs but visibly relaxes. Maria continued doing her job as chirps and warbles filled the air as the entire class couldn't help but smile letting Hawks embraced his heteromorph side that he was forced into holding back.
At this moment, the class also realized they had Hawks all wrong.
~Later~
Mikoto: Hawks?
Hawks: Oh Hey Fledgling! You still up?
Most of the class was already asleep or in their dorms doing whatever they want as Mikoto had noticed Hawks was on the phone talking to someone.
Hawks: Oh sorry Mera-san. I'll call you back.
The bird hero hangs up on Mera before turning to the snow user.
Hawks: Hope I didn't disturb you.
Mikoto: You didn't...
Hawks: If something wrong...
Mikoto: I...feel like I owe you an apology.
This confused Hawks as he cocked his head to the side.
Yep. Definitely bird-like.
Hawks: What for?
Mikoto: For not treating you like a person...for treating you like you're the enemy.
This surprised the Pro-Hero.
Hawks: When did you do this?
Mikoto: Since I've learned you were a spy for the commission.
Hawks:.....Oh.
Mikoto sighed before sitting down and Hawks sat in an opposite direction. He needed to remember. As angry as he was with Hawks a while ago for his involvement in Izuku's vigilante days along with All Might, Endeavor, & Best Jeanest.
But he no longer can stay mad at him. Especially with what the HSPC did to him.
Because as he knows by now despite the Pro-Hero being a spy. Like the Original Class 1-C. He was a victim too.
Hawks was a victim.
They've control him since he was a child. It took a lot of training for them to get him at a point where he barely disobey them anymore.
Abuse, torture, negligence, manipulation. Like a lot of victims of abuse...such as Souta, Sylvia, Kenji, Yin, Tsume, etc. Hawks was like them... it probably took him a long time to realise exactly what had been done to him.
Then as soon as Mikoto and his classmates had begun doing official hero work, they had all been exposed to so many cases of violence and abuse that the treatment of the commission became crystal clear. The problem was, they were one of the most powerful organisations in the world.
So it only was a miracle a handful of heroes rises up and took down that corrupted place leaving a few workers such as Mera-san in it's wake to rebuild it's foundation in a better light.
Mikoto: The HPSC tried to kill us...
Hawks' eyes went wide in bewilderment. Mikoto caught it. He didn't know?
Mikoto: They thought we were too powerful for their liking and they wanted us out of the picture. So they send assassins after us but we took care of them...
Hawks:....When was this?
Mikoto: Before the Paranormal Liberation Front...Are you aware of the disappearance of the original Class 1-C?
Hawks shook his head. This surprised Mikoto a lot. He genuinely really didn't know what occured these past two years?! Geysis definitely knew but Hawks, of all people, didn't?
Did the commission kept him in the dark on purpose?
So Mikoto decided to fill him in on what happened the original Class 1-C.
After a few minutes of explaining. Hawks swore underneath his breath. For the first time, Mikoto can see an vexed rage look formed on the hero's face. Then it morphed into an look of guilt. Not guilt for being involved.
It's more like guilt for not realizing sooner...
Hawks: So that's why they sent me off the radar for the past two years before my debut...That also explains why Geysis-san was acting so weird...so I wouldn't know...It all makes sense now...
Mikoto: Hawks?
Hawks: Yukimura...I'm sorry for what you and the other kids went through. If I had my way, I would've prevented it.
Mikoto:....Even if it meant crossing the HSPC and losing your life?
Hawks: Yes. After all. That's what heroes do! Protect those who can't stand against those who wish to do them harm.
He didn't even hesitant.
Hawks: You kids did not deserve it. If I would've known...Even if they controlled me. I would've done everything in my power to stop it. I would've helped you...
Mikoto:....Just hearing what the HSPC had done made me realized we were fighting for the wrong people. They put us in a position where we had to questioned our morals and wondered is being a hero even worth it anymore?
Hawks:.....
Mikoto: Tell me Hawks....if villains are really evil, then what does that make heroes? The good? If that so, then why have so many heroes hurt those who don't deserve it. While they live in fame but others are wiped away like pests. The term hero must be a lie. The system is corrupted if heroes can do whatever they want with the commission pulling the strings. The rules are shades of grey if these people don't what they're supposed to do. They continue to make others suffers to create villains over and over again...because they refused to help them.
Hawks: Yukimura...
Mikoto: Tell me Hawks...What should I do?
The younger male looked over at Hawks as if looking for an answer.
Hawks:...Well. If you want to know what I think. I say just do your best.
Mikoto: My best?
Hawks: Yes. It's like you said. No hero is perfect. No one can be like All Might. But even All Might left so many errors in this society. So you make a valid point, Chicklet. For many years, people have relied on their quirks to the point where they believed it's all that matters. The system is corrupted. And we heroes have failed and you guys are forced to pick up the pieces we left off. Because we let it happen. If anyone's to blame, it's us. Not you.
Mikoto: Hawks-san...
Hawks: You're a good kid, Yukimura. If you want to help someone. Whether they're a hero, villain, or a citizen. Then that's your choice. You also can do great things as a hero.
Mikoto: Really...?
Hawks: Of course~! If there's one thing I've learned Yukimura. The past does not define you. As a hero, you are free to make a choice.
Mikoto:....Choice...
"HEROES ARE MADE WHEN YOU MAKE A CHOICE!"
Hawks: You...and your classmates. Along with Midoriya, Bakugo, Todoroki, Tsukuyomi, & everyone else....you are what this society needs.
Mikoto:....
Hawks: I've made a lot of mistakes before. So will you. But I will be honest. You will be a better hero than I am.
Mikoto: Hawks....
Hawks: Keigo...
Mikoto: Huh?
Hawks: Takami Keigo. That is my name. The name the commission wanted me to abandon long ago. But I'm sharing it with you. You can call me Keigo if you like.
Mikoto wholeheartedly nodded. He didn't mind the gesture since Hawks is trusting him enough to tell him his name.
Hawks: *Smiles* Would you like a hug, Fledgeling?
Mikoto nodded again. He felt like he needed one.
The number two Pro-Hero brought him into a hug.
For some reason, the hug made Mikoto feel safe. All his worries washed away at the moment.
Makes it better when Hawks' wings also wrapped him into a hug.
After a minute, Mikoto then pulled away.
Hawks: How do you feel?
Mikoto: Great.
Hawks: Good~!
Hawks gave him a bright smile.
For once, it wasn't fake.
Mikoto: Thanks Keigo-san.
Hawks: No probs.
Mikoto: I'm happy we had this talk. Thanks for being there.
Hawks: No Probs, Chicklet.
Mikoto: Also Keigo-san. If you need anything from us well. Don't hesitate to tell us.
Hawks: It's all good, Chickadee.
Mikoto: Are you sure you're okay?
Hawks nodded but Mikoto wasn't sure if he was telling the truth.
Hawks: I'm fine, Yukimura...I've just...went through a messy break up. That's all.
Mikoto: Oh....sorry to hear that. Do you want to talk about it?
Hawks: Nope~!
Figures.
Mikoto: Well you don't have to tell me if it makes you uncomfortable. But remember Hawks-san... It's not embarrassing to ask for help.
Hawks: Help?
Mikoto nodded.
Mikoto: It doesn't have to be from us. But remember this as well. You're not alone. Sure you maybe a hero but even heroes need saving. Heroes do the saving but the question is... whose going to save them in their darkest hour?
Hawks: Yukimura...
Mikoto: I better turn in...Goodnight Keigo-san.
Hawks: Night...
Hawks waved at him as the snow user returned to his room. As soon as he was out of ear shoot. Hawks looked down at himself.
Hawks:....Am I really...not alone in this? Is it really that simple? Asking for help...? Even though I'm a hero...?
He then thought of everyone who still cared about him. Best Jeanest, Miruko, The Kids....
Hawks: The kid has a point. I guess even heroes like me need saving...
He decided to give Mera-san a call.
Mera: Hawks...is everything okay? What happened?
Hawks: Hey Mera-san...I...think I might need some help...
Due to the fact that he wasn't using his feathers, Geysis was nearby listening onto the conversation.
Geysis: (I'm glad you're taking this necessary step, Hawks... I hope it takes some of the burden you'll been holding for so long...For now on, let me be the one to help you...)
