A/N: A chapter dedicated to Mikoto's parents and their relationships with their own families.

On his day off from school & therapy sessions, Mikoto was playing with Hinako & Hiroyuki. While their parents watch with smiles on their faces.

Hinako: Big Bro! Let's play!

Mikoto: Hey get back here you little rascal! That's my ice cream!

Hinako: I saw it first! Sharing is caring!

Mikoto: Not with ice cream! It ain't.

Tohru & Fumiko just chuckled as their kids scabbled over ice cream.

Tohru: Our children are really adorable, aren't they?

Fumiko: I agree. It's good to see them act their age too. 

While they both can understand that Mikoto is a hero. But it wouldn't hurt to take time to be young and act like his own age as a teen. 

Both parents sometimes did worry when Mikoto acted too mature for his age. 

Didn't help with the fact that their son is not just a hero but now a literal war veteran..

Then there was Hinako. She was only a few months old and already growing up. 

Tohru: They sure have came a long way. Both of them.

Fumiko watched them both with awe. 

They both looked happy. 

They both now had basically the life Fumiko always strived for back then with her sister Rei. Too bad thise days are gone. 

The Himura Family ripped itself apart and it could never be repaired.

The only people she has contact with the Himura Family was Rei & Geten. While their relationship is working better. 

She can't say the same for the rest. 

Ever since her sister was sold. She grew more cold & distance. After becoming a hero. Fumiko had cut off all contact with the rest. 

Her mother had passed away and her father spend most of his days alone...

No one's coming to visit him. 

Sometimes she couldn't help but wonder...

The Himura Clan...Like the Ashikagas. 

They used to be a rich and powerful families in all of Japan.

Their duties included tax collection, general village administration, management of public natural resources (such as mountain, field, river and ocean) of a village, as well as negotiating with the territorial lord as the representative of the villagers. 

The most powerful of them, administered between a dozen to several dozen villages, and ruled an extremely large territory. While the Ashikagas were Some of them were given the privilege to bear a surname and to wear a katana and were treated like members of the samurai class. The Himura duties also included the communication of laws and the coordination of lawsuits.

But sadly...

They weren't all that powerful anymore.

Did they ever considered themselves family at all?

Fumiko's father was the head of the family.

He had authority over his wife and the rest of the family members and the duty to protect them as well as the right to disown those who violate his wishes. 

Basically, disobey him and you can be literally kicked out of the family. They also had authority over the family's customs and rituals and are responsible for the management of the family property and the family business.

Fumiko disobeyed her father and was kicked out at a young age.

Was Geten put in the same position?

What about the other children of the family?

For instance, there's Rei.

Normally they would get zero inheritance (or a very small one). The daughters would get married off and would come to belong to other families, as for the younger boys, they could remain in the family and continue obeying to the family head or, if the family head were to allow them, form a branch family.

It's wonder their family fell apart.

The term "family" barely meant anything anymore.

People nowadays are more or less out for themselves now. 

No familial bonds. 

No unconditional love. 

Just toxic behavior & manipulative nature.

Don't get her started on relatives. 

And her husband has too...

Speaking of her husband...

Fumiko: Did you...ever get in touch with your family? About you know...you getting your quirk back.

Tohru:...

Tohru frowned at that but nodded at his wife.

That's right. Sometime during the final war. Tohru had gotten his quirk back. It was a miracle...a miracle from their daughter's quirk.

In her infant form, she bestowed Tohru a blessing. 

After twenty years of being quirkless..He had actually managed to get his quirk back. Something that was so...unheard.

Tohru was jubilant when he realized what happened. So he did what he had too. After leaving Hinako in his brother's care. He left to join the war to save his wife & son. 

Tohru: I have...I was meaning to tell you that...they contacted me out of the blue.

Fumiko: Do you...want to talk about it? You don't have too if you want too.

Tohru: No...It's something I need to get off their chest.

Her husband didn't mind telling her. Besides, their children were too occupied to notice what their parents were up too. 

Tohru: After so long...I had spoken with my other siblings. Mizuki helped.

~Flashback~

Tohru: Hey...It's me...

Tohru was on the computer speaking through his siblings online through a groupchat. None of them were happy to see each other. 

While Tohru remained close with Mizuki. His four other siblings. He did not. 

After all, when he became quirkless, they didn't hesitate to show their true colors.

Brother #1: So you finally shown your face after so long?

Brother #2: I thought you were still hiding from us. Still showing cowardice behind your wife~?

Mizuki: Watch it you too. Don't talk to Tohru that way. 

Sister #1: Shut  the fuck up Mizuki. This doesn't concern you. 

Mizuki: *Frowns*

Tohru: It's okay brother. They can say whatever they like. Whether or not. It won't change the fact of how scummy they are.

Brother #1: Oh wow. Someone grew a backbone. Never thought I see the day, Quirkless Freak. 

Tohru: Wow. It's been awhile since I heard that one. Can't say I missed it.

Mizuki: Maybe you should tell them, Tohru. 

Sister #2: Tell us what?

Tohru: The fact I'm no longer quirkless. 

Silence was on the other end of the chats. 

Brother #1: No way...

Sister #1: You're lying!

Tohru manifested his quirk in front of them by showing a kunai. 

Sister #2: He's not...lying...

Brother #2: Y-You gotten your quirk back?! What kind of bullshit is this?!

Tohru: You might say miracles do exist?

Brother #1: What kind of trick did you pull?

Tohru: No whatsoever. Nothing you guys need to know. (It's best I keep Hinako away from these people...There's no doubt they'll want to use her.)

Sister #1: W-Well I suppose since you have a quirk back...I guess we can allow you back into our family.

Sister #2: Y-Yeah. Welcome back Tohru. You can come visit us anytime!

Tohru: Hmmm...No thanks. 

Brother #1:....What?

Tohru: I said no thanks. 

Brother #2: Seriously...We're being generously to offer you back into our good graces and this is how you repay us?! How selfish & petty!

Wooooow. Look whose talking.

Tohru kept his calm while explaining.

Tohru: The reason I reject your offer is because I see no reason for us to see each other. So this will be our last groupchat. 

Sister #2: Tohru....what are you saying?

Tohru: Besides Mizuki. I'm cutting ties with you all. 

Brother #1:....You can't be serious.

Tohru: I am.

Sister #1: After everything we've done for you!

Tohru: You guys didn't do anything for me. Whike Mizuki was in America. You guys wasted no time bullying me. It were always Mom & Dad supporting me from the sidelines before they took their last breaths.

Brother #2: But Tohru. We're family! 

Tohru: Family? Last time I checked. For years, I was nothing more but a stepping stone for you all. But now that all changed. So you don't have to worry about me. 

Sister #1: Seriously... All this because we bullied you? You're a man now! Grow up!

Brother #1: Such a wimp! You always were a spoiled brat playing the victim!

Ah. There we go. The clear dismissal. 

And they wonder why Tohru stopped talking to them for years?

Goes to show...some people will NEVER change their ways.

Tohru: This conversation was pointless. I refuse to take anymore disrespect from you guys. For now on. Don't bother me again. 

Mizuki: The same goes for me. You guys never changed. 

Brother #1: Wait! Mizuki! Tohru!

Tohru: *Annoyed* What?

Brother #1: Before you go. Please help us out.

What?

Mizuki: Excuse Me...?

Brother #2: I've made a mistake earlier.

Brother #1: Some loan sharks are after us. Tohru. You're rich now & Mizuki, you're successful with your detective career. Could you please lend us some money. After all we're family-?!

Tohru: Goodbye.

*Mizuki & Tohru Both Exit The Groupchat*

~End Flashback~

Fumiko: I'm sorry you had to go through that. 

Tohru: It's fine. 

Fumiko: What happened after that?

Tohru: Well it turns out the loan shark thing was true. Mizuki Nii-san did some digging and so...our other two brothers gotten involved with some shady people & now they owe money.

Fumiko: What happend to the inheritance your parents left them.

Tohru: They used it up. 

Fumiko:....Gambling?

Tohru: Gambling...and shopping sprees...Because of this, they lost their jobs and their wives left them...

Fumiko: Idiots...

Tohru: That's what I said. Now they're running from some shady people I heard. 

Fumiko: What about your sisters.

Tohru: My first eldest sister...the one whom never liked you & was always jealous of your success. She became a hostess at a bar. Life's not looking so good for her either.

Fumiko: Well...that's not good...

Tohru: Definetly not...as for my other sister...unlike the others. She seems genuinely remorseful. Before I was able to block their numbers, She messaged me privately telling how sorry she was & vowed to become a better person. I told her that's good but I still need to set some boundaries. She told me that's fine and wished me the best of luck.

Fumiko: I think it's for the best. No offense but I don't want them to hurt our children.

Tohru: Oh don't worry. I agree. Mikoto. Hinako. Both of them are more important than my siblings' petty shambles. That's one of the reasons why I set some boundaries. I know Mom & Dad would've wanted that too.

Fumiko: I...still feel sorry for them. That their family didn't turnout the way they wanted.

Tohru nodded. His father had expressed disappointment in his siblings. Only he and Mizuki came out decent while the rest of them grew spoiled rotten. 

Tohru remembered some fond memories of his own father spending time with Mikoto when he was younger.

Mikoto loved his grandparents but he was closer to his grandfather.

They used to go fishing & eat ice cream together.

Mikoto was really sad to learn that his grandfather died of an heart illness. Tohru's mother followed shortly after...dying of an broken heart.

Her final words to Tohru that she apologized for not being there for him the most & that she still loved him even after he became quirkless.

~Flashback~

Child Mikoto: *Crying*

Tohru: Shhh. It's okay Mikoto.

Child Mikoto: I miss Grandma & Grandpa...

Tohru: I know buddy...I miss them too...

Of course Tohru misses them. They were his parents after all. After years of being back stabbed by his siblings. His father & mother tried theur best to make it up to him. 

They felt guilty for enabling his siblings' behavior.

Out of all his sibling, Mizuki was his only ally. 

While he could forgive his parents..but he can't forgive the rest. 

Child Mikoto: Why do people die...?

Tohru: It's apart of life, son. But don't worry. They're in a better place now.

~End Flashback~

Tohru didn't take it well either but he tried his best to be there for his son.

Before both his parents passed away from old age, they left Mizuki & Tohru a huge sum of inheritance while his siblings got somethings to help them get by. 

Too bad it wasn't enough for them...

Tohru was not surprised.

Money. 

Because of money. That is what split the Ashikaga Family apart.

They both looked at Mikoto & Hinako.

The two had been through so much themselves. 

Tohru & Fumiko refused to let anything bad happen to them ever again for the sake of their mental, physical, & spiritual health.

As their parents, their happiness is what matters most. 

~Later~

Mikoto: Hmm...

Tohru: What is it Mikoto?

Mikoto: I got so much things to do later in class.

Tohru: Is it homework? Do you need help? 

Mikoto: Nah. I'm fine Dad. Thanks. 

Tohru: Okay. Just remember. Me and your mother are always here if you need anything.

Mikoto: *Smiles* I know Dad-?!

*CRASH*

Both father & son stopped what they were doing.

They both quickly peeked the corner to see a man being surrounded by a group of thugs.

Tohru recognized the beaten up man as his third brother. He quickly held Mikoto back from trying to rescue him.

Mikoto: Dad...What?

Tohru shook his head no.

Tohru: Trust me on this son. I know you're a hero and all but you don't want to get involved in this.

Mikoto:....

Brother #2: I'll give you what you want! I just need a little more time!

Thug: Come on. Grab him.

Brother #2: No! Stop! Let go! Please! Leave me alone!

Tohru:....

Mikoto:....Dad. Was that...?

Tohru nodded.

Tohru: That was your uncle. Well....ex-uncle.

Mikoto: Ah. Right...the one who used to threatened your life?

Tohru nodded. He had told his son the full story of why he broke off all contact with his own family. 

Mikoto:....

Tohru: Some people are just beyond saving son...even if they're family...

Mikoto: *Solemn* Okay...

The father-son duo quickly leaves the alley.

....

A/N: Just because they're your family. Doesn't give them the right to hurt you. So if it gets too much. Find a way out and set your boundaries. Because some people just won't change.
