The Dreaded Exams
Decided to hold off on the filler chapter. We'll just go right along to the end of semester exams. I will basically skip over the written exams, only briefly touching on them. I'll obviously focus more on the practicals. I'll also be changing up some of the pro heroes that participate in the practical exams, but some will remain the same. As to who those pros will be and which students will be paired up with whoever, you'll just have to read and find out. Also, I will be doing quick overviews of how the other students exams go, and I will be guessing how some of their quirks work for some of the ones we don't know yet. Enjoy!
2 weeks had passed and it was the day our end of the semester exams would take place. We all had just finished our written exams and received our marks for them. I got third best in the class, closely following Kendo who had gotten first and Sen Kaibara(Quirk: Gyrate) who had gotten second. Mr. Kan was standing in his usual spot in the center of the class, preparing to say a speech. "Congratulations to all of you for completing the written exam. Of course, some of you did better than others, so those of you who did poorer will have to work double-time in your practical exams. But before we move on to the practical exams, I have an important announcement. As you all know, summer vacation is right around the corner after this semester. But, as the hero course, your vacation will be cut short for all of you. As heroes in training, you will attend a one week training camp in an unknown location. There you will all be tested, strengthening your minds and your quirks until you break yourselves. To those of you who fail the practical exam, there will be a serious punishment afterwards, so no slouching, otherwise you're in for a world of pain!" He explained to us as everyone had begun to sweat. "Now, the last thing before we start the practical exam. Here are your pairs that you'll be working in, and the target you'll all have to take down." He turned on his projector and showed the class list. I knew already that we would actually be facing off against heroes, but I was more worried as to who I was paired up with. I scrolled my eyes down the list and saw I was going last. My partner was one I wasn't looking forward to working with. It was Monoma and we would be facing Mt. Lady for our practical exam. "Now that you all have a good idea of who you'll be working with, change into your costumes and meet down at battlegrounds alpha in fifteen minutes." He explained as we all changed into our costumes and headed towards our next exam.
I was headed towards the practical exam location when I was joined by Kinoko Komori(Quirk: Mushroom), Setsuna Tokage(Quirk: Lizard Tail Cut), and Yosetsu Awase(Quirk: Weld). "Can you guys believe Mr. Kan lied to us about the practical exam being about destroying robots?" Tokage asked. "Nah, it doesn't surprise me. He's hardly ever told us the truth when it comes to these sorts of things." Awase added in. "I just can't believe their making us go against actual pros, how unfair is that!?" Komori asked. I responded to her, "I think it's pretty fair, i mean, we do get to work in pairs so it's not totally unfair." "Yeah, I guess you're right. I'm working with Rin. We have to go against Thirteen. Who're you guys working with?" Komori asked all of us. Tokage answered first, "I'm working with this guy right here! We go against Present Mic!" She said as she shook Awase's hair. "Hey, knock it off Tokage, save that energy for the exam." Awase said while chuckling. I answered shortly after. "I'm working with Monoma. It'll be interesting to say the least, but I just hope we can effectively work together. Especially since we both have to go against Mt. Lady." I said. Awase replied to my response, "That'll be pretty tough, it's not easy to fight someone who's nearly 200 feet tall. Got a plan for that one?" He asked me. "I do but it all depends on how cooperative Monoma is with me." I answered him. "Well good luck with that, even I wouldn't want to work with that guy." Komori added in.
We all arrived at the entrance to battlegrounds alpha, the pro heroes waiting for us. Standing in front of us were some of the greatest heroes the country ever knew. Present Mic, Midnight, Ectoplasm, Mt. Lady, Kamui Woods, Cementoss, Death Arms, Thirteen, UA's principal, and Mr. Kan were all there, waiting to take on their pairs for the practical exam. Mr. Kan took a step toward us and explained the practical exam rules. "Before we begin the practical exams, I would like to go over the rules first. They are quite simple actually, the goal is to capture the villain, in this case one of us pro heroes, by using these handcuffs." He said while holding up a pair of handcuffs. "Each pair will get one set of handcuffs, and if one member is able to cuff the villain and themselves together, or cuff both of the villains hands, your pair is victorious. Another way to pass is for at least one person in your pair to make it to the exit that is hidden somewhere in the battlegrounds. These are your only ways of victory for the exam, I wish you all luck today. Make me proud. Now, let's begin the practical exams!" He yelled out to us. "Tetsutetsu, Tsunotori(Quirk: Horn Cannon), you two are up first. The rest of you can wait in the viewing area while everyone else takes the exam." He said to us. We all responded, "Yes sir!"
I met with Monoma and we headed to the viewing area with the rest of our classmates to watch Tetsutetsu and Tsunotori take their exam. They were going against Death Arms, a hero known for his overwhelming strength. "Tetsutetsu should be able to hold on for some time thanks to his body being made of iron, but if Tsunotori were to get hit, she may be knocked out right away." I thought to myself as the first practical exam began. Tetsutetsu and Tsunotori split up, most likely looking for the hidden exit in hopes of not having to fight Death arms head on. It didn't take long for that plan to fail though as Tetsutetsu rounded a corner and met Death Arms in a long alleyway. He was blocking the only path to the exit. Splitting up? That's a bold move when you know there's someone more superior to you. Trying to finish this quick by finding the exit? I figured you might do that so here I am, come and get me!" Death Arms yelled to Tetsutetsu. "Who said we were splitting up? Tsunotori now!" Tetsutetsu yelled as he looked to the roof above him. Standing on top was Tsunotori who fired the horns from her head at Death Arms. The horns moving all around Death Arms, too fast for him to catch. The pro hero became distracted by the horns that were attacking him, this left him wide open for Tetsutetsu to land an attack. "You made a big mistake pal! Don't mess with class 1-B!" Tetsutetsu yelled as he turned his right arm into iron and smashed it into the side of Death Arms face. The impact sent Death Arms hurdling into a nearby wall face first, knocking him out with a single blow. Tetsutetsu then took the handcuffs he received and cuffed Death Arms hands together. Tetsutetsu and Tsunotori had passed the practical exam.
Next to go was Tsuburaba(Quirk: Solid Air) and Shoda(Quirk: Twin Impact). They were going against Midnight. Their exam began and Tsuburaba and Shoda decided to stick together. They walked around for a few minutes, looking for Midnight or the exit, and soon enough, came across Midnight first. "Well boys, it's a pleasure to test you but i'm afraid both of you are going to fail!" She said to them as she ripped a part of her costume. A perfume-like gas emerged from her skin and made its way towards Tsuburaba and Shoda. Tsuburaba acted quickly and puffed air from his mouth, creating a wall that the perfume couldn't penetrate. He then created another air bubble but encased it around Shoda. He pushed it into the air, moving it above Midnight. "If you think i'm going to fall for that trick, you're sadly mistaken!" She said as she took out a whip and tried to pop Shoda's air bubble. Tsuburaba used this as an opportunity to get close to Midnight. He leaped over his air wall and held his breath through the perfume. While Midnight was looking up at Shoda, he created another bubble around Midnight, slowing her movements. Shoda, Now!" He yelled as Shoda's bubble popped. He began to fall straight towards Midnight who could barely move. He prepared one of his fist and punched Midnight in her right side. Shoda's quirk essentially giving him a two-in-one punch meant he had a great force in his one punch. He caused Midnight to fall over, her body now rolling on the ground, still trapped inside the air bubble. Tsuburaba used this chance to cuff Midnight, and both he and Shoda passed their practical exam.
Next up was Tokage and Awase. They were going against Present Mic for their exam. They started their exam and like the pair before them, they stayed together. We can't fight him. He won't let us get even close. We'll have to go for the exit." Awase whispered to Tokage. "I agree, so let's get a move on." She said as they both began to run. In no time at all, the pair was stopped in their tracks from a loud screeching sound. "YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" It was present Mic yelling using his quirk to amplify his voice. The pair covered their ears and slowly began to move again, still in search for the exit. The noise so deafening, even covering their ears not helping much, they decided to split up, hoping to find the exit faster. Unfortunately for Awase, he ran straight into Present Mic himself who was still yelling. He attempted to stop him by moving in to attack him but Present Mic soon turned and yelled directly at Awase. The force from his screeching caused Awase to fly backwards, landing against a wall. Present Mic continued to bombard Present Mic but unknown to him, Tokage had arrived and was just behind him. She grew her tail and wrapped it around Present Mic's mouth. He was silenced and his yelling came to a stop. "Now Awase, cuff him!" She yelled to Awase as he took out his handcuffs and subdued Present Mic. The two of them have passed the exam.
Fourth up was Honenuki(Quirk: Softening) and Shishida(Quirk: Beast). They were up against the principal. The exam began with a bang as Honenuki and Shishida quickly became closed in by the principal who was using his high intellect to seal off paths to the exit. "Don't think this'll stop us Mr. Principal!" Honenuki cried out as he used his softening quirk to liquify the ground, causing moutains of metal that the principal had placed in front of them to sink into the ground. The two of them quickly moved on but soon found even more roadblocks. A zero point robot's leg was blocking one of their paths. "I've got this!" Shishida said as he transformed into his beast mode. He sank his claws into the metal and lifted it up, allowing Honenuki to pass through. Honenuki could see the exit, he was only metres away but the principal made one last attempt to stop him. He dropped more metal in his path but Honenuki softened the ground once again to swallow up the metal and pass through. Honenuki passed through the exit and he and Shishida passed the practical exam.
Fifth to go was Shiozaki(Quirk: Vines) and Bondo(Quirk: Cemedine). They were up against Kamui Woods. Kamui began talking to Shiozaki, "It's been a while since I saw you Shiozaki. How've you been doing since the internship?" She responded to his question. "Fine, thank you, but that isn't important now." She said with a serious look on her face as their exam had begun. Kamui made the first move and tried to ensnare Bondo with his lumber quirk. Shiozaki intercepted him by wrapping her vines around the incoming branch, stopping it in its tracks. Bondo then shot his glue-like substance at Kamui who was able to dodge by jumping high into the air. Shiozaki still had her vines wrapped around his arm however, as she pulled on them and forced Kamui to the ground. He landed on his back into the pile of glue that Bondo had previously shot out. Bondo then shot out more of his glue, encasing Kamui and immobilizing him. Shiozaki then placed the handcuffs on Kamui's hands and the two of them passed the exam.
The sixth pair to go was Kendo and Kamakiri(Quirk: Razor Sharp). They were going against our homeroom teacher Mr. Kan and his blood manipulation quirk. The exam started and Kendo and Kamakiri stuck together. "Keep your eyes out for him. He could be anywhere." Kendo said to Kamakiri. "You got it. This won't be easy, he knows how all of our quirks work. It would be best for us to pass using the exit." Kamakiri explained while Kendo nodded. A few minutes had passed and nothing had happened, Kendo and Kamakiri just continued to look for the hidden exit. They rounded a corner and walked out to an open street. They looked down to the end and saw that the exit was right there in plain sight. They slowly began to walk to it, keeping there guard up. Without warning, a huge geyser of blood made contact with Kamakiri, pushing him against a wall. The blood then hardened and Kamakiri was stuck there. "Don't even try to escape! I can harden blood to the point where it's as tough as iron!" A voice said as Kendo and Kamakiri looked to a nearby rooftop. It was Mr. Kan and he looked angrier than usual. He jumped down from his building and began to run at Kendo. "Run Kendo! Go down one of the alleyways, try to avoid him! I'll get out of this somehow!" Kamakiri said as Kendo listened and ran down an alleyway. "Why must they always run. A hero never runs." Thought Mr. Kan. He chased her down the alley, beginning to catch up to her. He shot more blood at her, trying to stop her the same way he stopped Kamakiri. He eventually caught up and grabbed Kendo's arm. He lifted her up and shoved her against a wall. "Game over kid." He said as he shot blood onto Kendo, trapping her against the wall. "You both fail the exam." He said to her. Out of nowhere, Kamakiri appeared behind Mr. Kan and attacked him. "I don't think we've failed just yet!" He said as he attempted to slice at Mr. Kan's arm. He dodged however, and looked shocked to see him free. "How did you escape, I can make blood as hard as iron!" He asked Kamakiri. "Well it's a good thing my blades are sharp enough to cut through iron! I never did get to show you how much I improved from my internship!" He said as he cut through the blood that trapped Kendo, freeing her. "Thanks Kamakiri, now let's take him down!" She said as her fists grew in size. Kamakiri made the first move as he once again attempted to slice at Mr. Kan's arms. He dodged them once again but this time Kendo was waiting. She jumped into the air as Mr. Kan dodged. She then thrusted one of her huge hands at him and pinned his body against a wall. With his arms trapped he could no longer use his quirk and Kendo and Kamakiri were able to defeat their homeroom teacher. They had passed the Practical exam.
While observing in the viewing area, I was getting pumped to do my exam. My only concern was Monoma though who refused to use my plan. He would rather use his own, which I thought was incredibly stupid. With time running out though, we would have to agree on something soon, or else both of us will end up failing the exam.
