XVIII. A Lie For A Life
Ahsid finally opened her eyes when she heard a soft rapping on her balcony door. She pulled off the covers from her head but saw Dane and Zion already in her room.
"Are you alright?" Dane's yellow eyes were clouded over.
Ahsid slumped back to her bed, nodding. "Do each of your races have a leader or head?"
Dane raised his eyebrows.
"Why do you wanna know that,"asked Zion as he examined a little trinket on her writing desk nearby.
"Do the werewolves have some supreme Alpha pack leader or something?"
Zion nodded. "There are small werewolf packs dotted across the globe but we are all brought together under a de facto ruler, the King of the Alphas."
"Umm, is this King of Alpha our age?"
Zion looked at Ahsid absurdly.
"Okay, just what in the blazes is going on,"asked Dane.
"Ethan came to meet me. He said he was the Alpha King and he knows my secret. He...he.."
Ahsid could not complete. Dane's eyes widened at the information.
He cursed,"Scheiße!"
"Language, Dane,"muttered Zion, rocking himself to and fro.
"She has been roaming around with a werewolf for years. How in the blazes is that even possible? And why would the Alpha King himself be so drawn close to a mortal? Wouldn't he risk exposing himself?"
Dane was furious. Ahsid had never seen him like this. But, then she hardly knew him for four or five days. Moreover, Zion's unnatural silence bothered her. Their reactions were supposed to be the opposite. Dane should be the calm one here, not jolly Zion.
"We have to talk. This Ethan, if he truly claims to be the Alpha King, we need to deal with him with finesse,"exclaimed Zion.
"This is crazy. Is the Alpha King retarded,"mused Dane,"and why did he tell you now?"
Ahsid sighed,"Ethan's not retarded. He said that since I had started to dabble in his world, I needed to know the truth about him."
"He put you in terrible danger,"said Dane.
"How so?"
"Till now Ahsid you have only come across beings either on the white or on the grey side. We are not called creatures of the dark without reason."
"You said there was no reason for beings like you to show yourself to humans."
"Yeah, if you die, then you don't live to tell."
"But how would these supposed monsters know who he was?"
"By his aura, Ahsid. He is a freaking King!"
Ahsid was quiet. She was still taking time to process the gravity of the situation.
"He said he would never hurt me."
Dane rolled his eyes,"After how close you were and he hid the little fact that he was a werewolf, I guess you can trust him."
Ahsid huffed in annoyance. Suddenly, the pain in her stomach deepened. She groaned and curled into a foetal position.
"Hey, you okay,"asked Dane, his eyes softening.
Reaching out to her, Dane stroked her black hair. Zion knelt beside the bed.
"We need to have Ahsid with us when we chat with the King."
"Never, I am not putting her in more danger,"warned Dane.
"Dane...He will only tell the truth with me by his...."and Ahsid coughed violently.
"Ahsid..." Dane's eyes narrowed in pain and guilt, feeling responsible for her pitable condition.
"Tomorrow...we will talk tomorrow. School...,"announced Ahsid.
Zion shrugged his shoulders. "As long as we can talk..."
Both of them looked at Dane who only rolled his eyes and sighing, agreed. He then picked up the phone from Ahsid's bedside and began to punch in something.
"This is my number. If there is anything you need at all, just text me or call. Harry doesn't need to know everything."
Laughing, Ahsid nodded her head. "Now, get out, you two and let me sleep. My mum will be back soon."
Zion left with a cheery goodbye although it seemed forced.
"Is he okay?"
Dane shook his head sadly. "That is Zion's story to tell. I would not be able to tell you the exact facts. Ask him tomorrow."
Ahsid nodded, not pressuring him. "Maybe you should see if he is okay."
Dane gave a worried glance and then decided to leave, telling her to call him if she needed to talk. Then, with a reluctant sigh, he disappeared by opening a portal through.
Ahsid rolled over, trying to contain everything in her head and planning on how to corner Ethan the next day. It sure gave a terrible headache to her later on.
