VIII. Meeting The Others
"So, you're Dane's new girlfriend?"
Ahsid jumped up. "No...uh..I.."
She looked at Dane who simply shrugged his shoulders.
The new guy laughed gleefully. "Sorry, I couldn't help pull your leg. You're quite a sight, after all! The name's Zion."
Ahsid stared at him. "Are you a werewolf?"
Zion looked surprised. "How the heck do you know?"
Ahsid's eyes shone bright and she charged him with questions,"I ABSOLUTELY LOVE WEREWOLVES! They are the coolest creatures ever. I remember I slapped a friend of mine because he said vampires are better than werewolves...."
"Did I hear someone say vampires are better than the dogs,"interrupted a voice.
The trio spun around to see a girl with a long staff enter the hallway.
"Aah, you are back, Dane,"stated she.
"Iris,"gritted Zion, his fists clenching at her insult.
Iris ignored Zion and studied Ahsid, who squirmed under her gaze.
"Iris, we need your help. We need to train her."
"Master's orders?"
Dane nodded in affirmative.
Iris sighed. "It's going to be tough. She looks strong but has never had any contact with the mana before. It might take her body time to absorb it, not to mention she has to live her normal life too."
"Wait a minute, what is going on? I am utterly clueless here,"said Ahsid, angrily.
She hated when people were talking about her so unassumingly.
Dane answered,"We are discussing the best possible way to expose you slowly to magic."
Ahsid's eyes widened. "But I thought you would just teach me..you know, the basics of fist punching and leg kicking and grip holds..."
Iris laughed. Then, as fast as the blink of an eyelid, she held Ahsid's neck in a vice like grip. Nobody moved, except Dane giving a tired yawn. Just as swiftly as she had executed the move, she let Ahsid free, who stumbled to the ground.
"Not mincing my words here, but without magic you will never be able to stand your ground because physically you are no match for us."
Zion came to Ahsid's defense. "Dosen't mean you can scare her off like that and discourage and be a total brat."
"Oh yeah, are you challenging me, you dog?"
A tremor ran down through Zion. "Shut up, leech. I could kill you a dozen times and you would not even notice."
That was when Ahsid noticed the fangs. Iris had her upper two canines extended. Ahsid looked fearfully at Dane but he was not even paying attention, deep in thought and staring at the nothingness.
Suddenly, a ripping sound was heard and Ahsid spun around to see Zion shifting into a dark blue wolf with a maw much bigger than an average wolf's. He growled while Iris bent her frame, gripping the staff close to her chest. And then all hell broke loose. Zion pounced on her but was thrown away by Iris who swung her staff at him. Bounding forward, Zion gave a mighty leap and bit down her staff. Iris tried to break it free but couldn't hold on as she was sent flying through, smacking the wall.
"Dane,"screamed Ahsid hysterically.
Dane looked at her and mouthed an okay and simply went back to staring into space. She saw Iris gut Zion on his stomach, the most tender part of a werewolf and decided that if stupid Dane did not care for his friends, she would stop them. She did not want anyone getting hurt. Suddenly, Ahsid, using the element of surprise to her full advantage, ran in between the two combatants, halting them but not before Iris jabbed Ahsid's side, failing to stop the momentum. Gasping, Ahsid fell to the ground, clutching her side.
"NO,"yelled Dane.
A bright green light sputtered and crackled from his palm.
"YOU IDIOTS,"he bellowed.
He released the green sheen, throwing back both Iris and Zion, who reverted back to his human form, just due to the sheer power of Dane.
Dane immediately crouched to Ahsid and shouted,"What were you thinking? I told you it was okay. Do you not understand that you are not one of us?"
Tears flooded Ahsid's eyes. The pain was bad, she could feel something cutting through the inner organs of the body. Dane still didn't stop.
"How in the blazes can you be so stupid? It's like you are asking for trouble!"
A small shaky voice whispered,"I didn't poison it." Perhaps it was Iris. Why the hell did she sound so scared?
That's when Ahsid opened her eyes to see Dane's face so close to hers but his eyes....they were yellow and black at the same time. They were terrifying and so deep....
"Remove your hand and let me see,"ordered Dane.
"Dane, it's...."
"Remove your HAND,"roared Dane. She saw a deep gnash at her side. It was bleeding but not as badly as she had been thinking. Yet the pain....
"Great, you had to enchant that bite,"said Zion.
He dropped to her side and immediately placed a hand on her wound. She flinched.
"Careful,"warned Dane,"you have done enough damage as it is."
Sheepishly, Zion muttered,"θεραπεύω."
A soft glow emerged, dulling the pain. Moreover, Ahsid saw the skin start to regrow in front of her very eyes. After the glow faded, only a dull pain was what Ahsid was left with.
"Let's get you home, Trouble,"declared Dane and swooped her into his arms.
"Dane, I..."
"Shut up,"he finalised.
Without a word, he left for the exit, carrying a blushing human and leaving behind a stunned and guilty werewolf and vampire.
