III. The World Beyond

Ahsid sipped the tea, her gaze boring into his. "So you are a katana wielder and can do a bit of magic?"

The boy nodded.

"And creatures like werewolves, ghouls and vampires exist?"

The boy nodded again. Ahsid was quiet.

"It is overwhelming,"added the boy.

"But how come we never notice you?"

"Do you really think we care? It would be much more easier if humans were out of the way. Humans can see us only if we wish them to.

"But I saw you!"

"Sometimes, some people with a burning desire notice us, so we wipe their memories off, not only to be on the safe side, but also to stop other people from deeming them as crazy."

Ahsid sighed.

"But they usually do not cause any trouble with their memories erased. I am suprised at your resilience. You must really want to escape from your life."
Ahsid hurriedly looked down. She felt his gaze on him, trying to prise out her secrets.

"So do you work solo?"

"No, I am aligned with a Coetus. A group of like minded individuals, not linked by blood or magic but by thoughts and common goals."

Ahsid creased her brows. "Latin?"

The boy gave a polite grin, nodding. "How did you know that?"

"I was bored and decided to explore that language."

"We usually do not have specific languages. The werewolves speak the language of the wolves and Ancient Greek, some even swear by High German, the vampires follow a smattering of Old Russian and the dragons speak Draconish. There are many languages, most of them died away with time."

Ahsid could not believe her ears. Yet, the boy calmly sat afore her, not seeming to be fooling around.

"Ahsid,"she stated.

The boy raised his eyebrows.

"My name."

The boy nodded.

"Dane," he announced.

"Sheesh, it's almost twelve. I need to run. I have a tuition at one,"groaned Ahsid.

"No, we need to get you erased first."

"Why did you even tell me all of this?"

Dane looked at her.

"What do you mean?"

Sighing, Ahsid repeated," I will not remember anything that you said. Why, I may even forget you. Why did you waste your time telling me things that I will eventually..."

Ahsid's voice broke. She was being silly, she knew that much.

"Fine, today, we meet at twelve."

Ahsid looked up. Dane shrugged his shoulders.

"I might need to take you to the Coetus."

Ahsid's eyes shimmered with joy.

"Where?"

"Come out to your verandah,I guess."

Ahsid suddenly stood up and gave him a hug.

"Woah...woah, people can see us?"admitted Dane, hurriedly.

Ahsid's eyes widened and then she ran, without looking back. Dane stared after her receding figure, chuckling to himself at his little joke.
