Chapter 14: Death and Life
We heard the dragon before it approached us. Its roar was loud, ringing out loud throughout the streets. All the windows that weren’t already broken shattered, raining down shards of glasses over all of us. We all ducked our heads to avoid getting any in our eyes. The smell then approached my nose. It smelled like the ocean air mixed with rotten fruit. I started to choke on the smell. Same as the other Dragon Slayers. It roared again, this time sounding considerably closer. All of us Dragon Slayers covered our ears and winced in pain. “You guys okay?” Nicole asked. “Yeah!” I said. “We’re good!” Lucy replied. Something landed above us and we looked up. A giant mass of sharp, pointy teeth growled at us. A dragon, with scales that swirled with blue and white like sea foam, was sitting on the roof. We all gulped at the same time.
That’s when he opened his mouth and we could see the water flowing around in his mouth. “Incoming!” I yelled, running away from its line of fire. Everyone screamed in terror as a blast of water shot from its mouth with tremendous power. I looked behind me and saw where we all once were was a big crater. The dragon flapped its wings and razor like wind flew towards us. I dodged the one that was sent towards me. “Dark Dragon Roar!” I yelled, bellowing a large amount of darkness at the dragon. It connected and barley made a scratch. The dragon turned its attention to me and I paled. He reached over with a foot and brought it down towards me. I crossed my arms above my head and felt the pressure. The ground around me turned into a crater around me.
I groaned and in a male voice, the dragon chanted “Sky Dragon Deadly Arte: Weight of the Sky!” He lifted his foot, but I still felt a force pushing me into the ground and over time it grew heavier. I felt the strain and my blood roared in my ears. I heard the others call my name, but they were muffled. It felt like my bones were beginning to break and crack. My joints were stiffening and I was beginning to sweat. I glanced at the dragon and saw him fighting the others, blocking their advances towards me. Abigail was slashing at the dragon’s feet wildly with her magic while the others trying their hardest. “Fire Dragon Roar!” Natsu chanted, blasting a large amount of flames at the dragon. A barrier of water surrounded the dragon and put out the flames on contact.
“Ice-Make Hammer!” Gray chanted, summoning a large hammer over the dragon and bringing it down. It bounced off the dragon’s scales, harmlessly. “Hmph… Was that a fly?” the dragon asked, sounding bored. “Robert!” Abigail called for me. “A-Ab-Abbey…” I called, weakly. My left leg gave out and I went down to one knee. She tried running to me, but the monsters spiked tail batted her away. “Argh!” she grunted as she went flying. “S-Se-Selene…” I called out weakly. Just like that, the weight was off me and I fell face first, but was grabbed before I fell to the ground. “I gotcha…” I hear Selene mumbled. I heard the dragon roar in anger and said “How dare you cancel my spell!? He would have been dead soon!” “That’s why I canceled it.” Selene said, gently laying me down on my stomach and onto the ground. “You okay?” Selene asked me. All I could do was make a stiff nod. My whole body was in pain.
“Stay put.” She said, standing up and facing the dragon. Her two curved manifested in her hands and she ran at the dragon to help bring it down. A strand of grey hair fell into my face and I became worried. The dragon growled and yelled “You think you can defeat me, Storm! Dragon of Water and the Sky!?” Storm stomped on the ground and gallons of water shot out of the windows of the school and started scooping up every one of my friends. “AH!” Wendy screamed as she was dragged into a water sphere. “HELP!” Bella screamed as she was dragged in as well. As the water started to swallow everyone, I felt tears falling from my eyes. “No…” I mumbled. “Natsu, help!” Lucy called as the water took her. “Lucy! Gah!” Natsu was knocked away by Storm’s foot and he went flying into a tree. The water then dragged his unconscious body into it.
“Please…” I muttered, the tears falling faster. “Let go of them!” Erza yelled, using her swords to try and disrupt the spell. Nothing worked. Everyone in the water sounded muffled, but were able to breathe. For how long is the question. The water scooped up Erza. “Stop it…” I cried. Now, the only ones not scooped up were Rachel, Delphi, Selene and Abbey. That’s when I felt someone kneel beside me. “Then give up.” I heard the voice of Lilith mutter. I stiffened and fear filled my emotions. “Drink.” She snarled, thrusting a cup to my lips. I kept my mouth closed. “Then I’ll let the dragon kill your friends.” She growled. I froze. I saw Abigail look in my direction and fear filled her eyes. “ROBERT!” she yelled in terror, catching everyone’s attention. “No!” Delphi yelled, running to help me. She didn’t get far because a tentacle of water grabbed her legs and started dragging her.
Delphi began crawling on the ground, resisting the water. I then made up my mind. I opened my mouth. I heard Lilith cackle as the black liquid was poured into my mouth. I swallowed and felt the liquid start burning away at my insides. Lilith brought the cup away from me and her presence faded away. I heard the sound of water crashing on the ground and the sounds of wings flapping away. “Robert!” Abigail yelled. She had ran over to me and turned me on my back. I could feel the liquid burn away my organs, rendering them useless. My bones, that were already broken and weak, began to dissolve. Pain ran through my entire body. Though, I gave Abigail a sad smile. “Sorry Abbey… Seems like… I’ve… lost…” I stated, tears rolling down my face. She turned her head over her shoulder and called “Delphi! Wendy! Please!” Abbey grabbed my left hand and brought it to her cheek.
Delphi and Wendy ran into the scene and fear was shown in their eyes. “We’ll try!” Wendy said, getting to work to help me. Delphi joined. Every time they fix a certain part, it would die all over again, causing more pain. My nerves were beginning to feel even more pain. “Ab… bey… It’s… not gonna… work…” I told her. That’s when Delphi stiffened and Rachel gasped. “Snake of Chaos and Lord of Time, Have appeared in their prime. While his friends and allies rise, The General of Dragons dies.” The chanted in a raspy voice. Abigail’s eyes widened and she looked at me. I gave her a small smile and my eyes began to close. “No! Stay awake!” she yelled at me, sobbing. Wendy was also beginning to sob. “Love… you…” I told her, closing my eyes. “To Half-Bloods he… is so… immortal…” Delphi and Rachel’s voices began to drift into nothing and I opened my eyes. I found myself on a ferry.
The man driving the ferry, or better yet, a row boat was a skinny, pale skinned man. He wore a black shawl and was muttering “Dies a hero’s death… damn him… Allowed him to get the Express Pass…” The boat floated over a river filled with broken pictures, ripped clothing, wilted flowers and ruined trophies. We were on The River Styx. Wails of pain and anguish rang through the air. We approached a circular slab of stone and stopped. “Your destination.” The man, Charon, stated. I got up and walked onto the ground. Charon pushed off from the slap of stone and sunk into the Styx. I gulped and approached the middle. “Hmm… What have we here…” said an old and weary voice. “A hero… a Dragon Slayer no less…” said a deeper voice. Three shades approached me from the shadows and circled me. All three had red glowing eyes and shadow blocking their ghastly features.
I gulped and looked to the floor. “Brave, but also shy…” said a third shade in an old tone. “Powerful, but not ambitious.” Said the second voice. “A strong will…” said the first voice. I waited for their verdict. “Died to protect his friends.” Said all three of them. “Elysium for him.” Said the first voice. And just like that, I was in a field with a pink sky. The sun shone purple and music and laughter rang through the air. Trees and vast fields filled with crops and cattle surrounded me. The shades had disappeared and replaced with laughing warriors and people partying. “Hey! Newbie! Welcome!” said a female voice. I turned to look at who said that and found a group of people. One was a rather beautiful girl with brown hair and blue yes. She had very minimal amount of make-up, but was beautiful nonetheless. She was smiling and waving for me to come sit with her group. She had on an orange t-shirt and blue jeans. She seemed around 18.
Beside her, holding her opposite hand, was a burly African-American teen. He had chocolate brown eyes and dark brown hair. He wore the same shirt, but beige khakis. He looked to be just reaching college age. Sitting on the ground around a campfire was a beautiful girl with long, dark hair. She had copper-colored skin and dark brown eyes. She had a broken silver circlet on the top of her head, but it was weaved into her hair She wore a silver parka, camo pants and hunting boots. She looked to about 17 years old. Lastly was a rather wiry built, Asian guy. He had glossy black hair and had an eyepatch over his left eye. His other eye was hazel brown. He wore a plain white shirt and brown shorts. All of them were smiling. I approached them slowly and cautiously. “Hey! My name’s Silena!” said the blue eyed girl. She then indicated to the guy holding her hand. “This big, adorable lug is Charles!” she said with love directed towards him.
That made my heartache and made me think of Abbey. She then indicated to the other two. “And these are Zoë and Ethan! Welcome to Elysium!” she said. I gave them a pained smile. “Hi… I’m Robert…” I replied. “You okay?” Ethan asked. I shook my head. “Why not?” Zoë asked. “My… My girlfriend and friends just watched me die in their arms…” I told them, collapsing to my knees. All four of them gasped. “What!?” Charles asked. “Oh my gods…” Ethan muttered. I reached into my pocket of the clothes I died in and pulled out Selene’s key. “What’s that?” Zoë asked. “A key to a Goddess I helped feel wanted.” I stated, putting the key away. All of them just looked at me with sad eyes. “Well… don’t worry. I died by being spat at by acid.” Silena chuckled dryly. “I was killed by my own father.” Zoë said with a scowl. “I died by a sword shard through the stomach.” Ethan said, embarrassment clear on his face. I laughed. “I blew up.” Charles said with a shoulder shrug.
I laughed. “At least you guys weren’t killed by a demon, though already weakened by a Dragon.” I told them. This caused all of them to look at me in shock. “A dragon PLUS a demon!?” Ethan stated. Charles whistled and said “Tough luck dude.” I scowled and said “No shit.” This caused everyone to laugh. Then someone cleared their throat behind me and we looked. A man with greasy black hair, a permanent scowl, pale skin and a black suit approached us with a woman with dark brown hair. She was as beautiful as a rose, but probably as deadly as a thorn as well. Her dress was like black smoke, but it bloomed with different colored flowers. Hades and Persephone, the rulers of the Underworld, had arrived.
“To think that I had to agree with my brother this drives me insane…” We all heard Hades growl in anger. Persephone just sighed. “And the fact that both Hera, Athena, Apollo, and Nemesis agreed on this is makes them be the reason I’m breaking and Ancient Law.” He snarled this time. “Yes dear…” Persephone said with an eye roll. Beside Hades and Persephone was a blue skinned man. He wore a business suit and looked amused at the god’s reaction. “Now now Hades. He is the one to save us all.” The man said. This must have been Osiris, Egyptian God of the Underworld. Hades transformed into a winged demon and roared at him. Osiris didn’t even flinch. He went back to his normal body and looked at me. “You! Dragon Slayer! You are to be reincarnated by orders of Zeus and Ra.” Hades stated. This caused silence to go through all of Elysium.
“Y-You mean I can live again?” I asked shocked. Persephone approached me and pulled me to my feet with a smile. “Why, of course. You are to be the savior of the gods.” She stated. With that being said, Osiris snapped his fingers and the glow around me vanished and replaced me with my old body. My shirt was ripped and my pants were tattered. “Aw man! And I loved this shirt!” I cried. Everyone but Hades laughed. “Yes. Hardy har har. Now let’s go.” Hades stated and grabbed my arm. “Wait!” I said, ripping my arm free. I ran to the four who I now considered friends. “You’re already going? You just got here!” Ethan asked. I gave them a sheepish smile. “Yeah. But! I can help you guys. Hades,” I stated, looking over my shoulder at the three gods, “or Osiris don’t control my actions. Diana does.” I gave them a smirk as I saw the immortal blood leave their faces. I faced my new friends and began to weave my spell. “Io creo le nuove chiavi!” I chanted. Four silver keys appeared in my opened hand.
I handed each one to my four friends. “What are you doing?” Hades questioned, menacinly. “I offer a new way to live. I offer you a chance to fight our cause. The draw back, eternal service while binded to these keys. Do you accept?” I asled, a black magic circle appearing under me. All four of them glanced at each other and nodded. “We do!” They stated. “Now wait just a moment!” Osiris stated. “Legare!” I chanted. A large black magic circle surrounded the four. A light shone from the keys and the keys fly into my hands. I smiled and said “There! You guys get to help all of my friends and I fight in our battle.” “That wasn’t part of the rules!” Hades yelled. “But you brought me back to life, allowing me ignore your commands and focus on Diana’s teachings to follow my gut.” I replied. “And because you are a Dragon Slayer, you can break the Ancient Laws without any harsh feedback. Smart.” Osiris commented.
I smiled. Hades just growled and threw a bag at me. I grabbed it and found it full of colourful Jaw breakers. “Umm… thanks?” I questioned. “These candies will change the tone of your voice. It will either make it either higher or deeper.” Persephone explained with a pleasant smile. Osiris handed me a cloack. “This will allow you to hide your presence and scent from everyone.” The blue-skinned god said. I nodded and through on the cloack. It was black and was as long as my ankle with a hood. It had a clip at the section around my neck. I clipped it together and hid the candies on the inside of the cloack. I took one out and put it in my mouth. I began to choke on the taste. It tasted like a cough drop mixed with blood. “Ew! That tastes disgusting!” I said, but I surprised myself. My voice sounded like a middle aged white man. “Woah...” i said. “time for your exit!” Hades said and snapped his fingers. Darkness surrounded me and I felt like I was moving.
When the darkness freed me, I found myself in front of St. Mary’s. I pulled my cell from my pocket. I had 7 missed messages and the date read 2nd of November. Six of those were from Victoria, Matthew, and Nicole. I ignored them though when I saw one was from Abbey. I hesitantley opened it and read ‘I miss you... you idiot...’ A tear fell from my eye. I pulled out Silena and Charles’ keys and summoned the pair. Both appeared in a bright light that made the night sky become a bit brighter. Both of them glanced around and said ‘Woah... It’s been a while since we’ve even been back in the world of the living.” Silena had a dagger strapped to her bicep and a short sword attached to her hip. Charles had a claymore in a scabbard on his back. I gave them a smile and called Sharon. “Hello?” was what she asked upon answering.
I spat the candy out of my mouth and said “Hey Sharon. What’s up?”

“-Now remeber. I’m quote on quote dead, so acted heart broken.” I told her. Silena and Charles were sitting on the stones right outside the school. “Yeah yeah... I know. See ya’.” She said. “Bye.” I said, ending the call. That’s when I smelt the scent of Strawberry cake. Damn! It’s Titania! “Hey!” I heard Erza call out. “Charles! Silena! Now!” I hissed at the two. I turned and found Erza approaching us. The couple got in front of us with their weapons raised. “Any closer and you will force our hands.” Silena threatened. Erza froze. “Who are you?” she asked. I needed to make a decision... and fast! “Ugh! Titania! You’re the worst!” I said, pulling down my hood. I glared at her as she became pale. “R-Robert?” She mumbled. That’s when I realized I went straight to plan B. “Ah shit...” I said.
