1.3 - Social Anxiety
"Who."
Oh.
"Did."
My.
"That?"
God.
You are in deep shit, Jimin.
"I just-"
"Don't you dare make a lame excuse like falling off a horse or falling from the top of the god damn building!"
Jin throws his fists on the table as Jimin flinches away. Nope, I didn't budge even an inch— it is totally normal for me.
Jin's habit is to hit someone while getting angry, crying, happy— during intense emotions.
Laughing? He will hit his thigh or normally slap my back a number of times.
Angry? He will literally throw hands with the furniture just like he is doing now.
Crying? He will slap himself for a number of times, sometimes even slap others too.
He is an unique type of specie on the whole planet.
"Whoever did it showed no mercy on you Goeun, next time be careful," He shakes his head while examining my wound. Sighing, he walks away to get the the ointment and cotton pads from the drawer of his table.
I can still see his eyes sparking with anger, but I can't disclose the identity of the criminal otherwise Jimin will be on his death bed, no matter how good of a fighter he is.
"It will sting."
Jin is kind enough to inform me so that I can prepare myself for the painful impact but cruel enough to not give me the time as he instantly places the cotton ball filled with ointment on my cheekbone.
What was the use of informing me, then?
And when I flinch slightly, his retort surfaces out. "Good, you deserve that pain when you are being the pain in my ass."
That is what I get to hear.
Always.
God, Jin's really mad now. For once, my mind even decides to reveal the truth but a small part of me tells me not to.
Goeun, what good will you get by placing Jimin in a situation filled with nothing but danger?
But may be a bunch of fracture?
Jimin can handle that, I guess.
"Come on Goeun, senior's calling!"
When Jimin exclaims that with the exceptional type of urgency in his voice, I realise that he has already read my mind and now wants to escape as soon as possible.
"Goodbye Jin," I jump out of the bed and wave at the elder. "And I promise I won't get hurt anymore."
"One thing I have learnt while living with you is not to believe in your promises."
After that, we both walk out of the room. Jimin has my hand in his as we walk towards the lounge area.
"You were internally planning to get me killed there, now weren't you?" He glares with hooded eyes which looks so funny to me— I am barely able to control myself from laughing on his face.
"Mr. Park, would you like some lamb skewers?" The waiter robot approaches us and presents the tray filled with food.
Jimin nods and takes some in his hands, I take one too. Now that I realise, my muscles are aching after practicing and getting hurt, I haven't eaten anything since hours.
"Can you make this when Jungkook returns? He craves for this stuff."
"All the agents, please report to the orientation room."
The speakers' volume is so loud that for once I doubt if my ear drums are still functioning properly or not. But when the loud ring in my ear stops, I thank the god for his consideration.
I am still young, you see.
"Well, I don't want to go," I slump down my shoulders and glance at Jimin while making a face in order to persuade him not to go.
"I know why you don't want to but you have to, come on now."
And the thing I was dreading the most for actually happens.
The second I place my foot in the conference room, everyone's head turns towards my petite figure that somehow was trying to sneak inside without getting any due attention.
But well who am I even kidding to?
"Well, the meeting is going on over there," Jimin claps violently, commanding everyone to divert their attention towards the front.
I owe the man beside me a lot.
"You do owe me," He elbows my side.
Miyeon, as always is the incharge to inform the basics of the organization to the recruits. Everyone is listening to her each and every word attentively but that one boy has his eyes glued at me.
"Everyone here will enhance the capabilities and power you have within yourselves— the sole reason why you are here, even me. Of course it will take time to get habitual. Gadgets will be provided to everyone after this meeting that will bring out those powers, they will help you finish your assigned tasks easily."
She flips the pages of her files.
"Now, about missions. The first mission you will be given is in pairs— with your seniors. After that your abilities and presence of mind will be inquired from your partner and then it will be finalised if you are better suited for a individual missions or involving partners. Starting from today, everyone will get through a 2 week training session in the supervision of their seniors to enhance your fighting, thinking and reflex skills."
"And all of the seniors who are here will be the ones you will be paired up with. I will call out the names and then the respected seniors can collect their partners."
Just like that, Miyeon starts calling out names. To be honest, I am having a gut feeling about me and Taehyung pairing up together— my hunch can be wrong too, this ain't a fictional world.
And I don't think Miyeon will pair me up with someone she herself is well suited with— afterall she is a sucker for handsome lads.
I will feel so sorry for Taehyung if they actually pair up together.
"Goeun and Taehyung."
The second those words leaves her mouth, my blood runs cold.
I thought that my gut feeling won't be true!
Considering myself, it will be super awkward for me to face him and greet him again with 'hellos' and 'how are yous'— we have to be together for days starting from today too. I have just met him a dozen of times and it always results in me running away because of the emergency flashes on wrist band.
"So good luck for the bright start."
Miyeon nods and dismisses the meeting while getting off the stage. Recruits and my colleagues floods the whole room and I try to keep my balance steady with the pushes I am receiving.
But as cold air tickles my ear, my reflex is to turn around and get ready in a fighting stance.
My girlfriend, Gyuri gets stunned for a mere second but regains her position again. Jimin all of a sudden steps between us and stops me from doing my next karate chops.
"Hold on and calm your breathe. You are even freaking me out Goeun," Jimin mumbles while rubbing my back soothingly.
Jimin probably knows the reason of my hyperventilation.
"Is it because of your partner? Do you want to change it? I mean I can ask Miyeon if-"
"No. It is alright, I will manage," I assure him when I am not. Don't know how I will manage when the boy I know from my normal life will be right by my side in the upcoming days.
I glance at the girl beside me as she sends me a knowing look.
She got it.
She understands that my social anxiety is hitting me up, slowly and steadily.
To be honest meeting him here is not something to be nervous about, I mean I can act like I don't know him and continue on training him. Of course it will be awkward but this is the only idea I have thought of in basically 10 minutes.
"Goeun?"
Bingo.
The unexpected voice of Taehyung actually increases my breathe rate— I can even hear my heart beats in my ear, no kidding.
This is not good.
Jimin turns towards the boy, probably giving him a good eye to check if he is good enough to stay with me. In such times Jimin rather becomes my overly protective brother.
Gyuri is there too, eyeing the man from head to toe and when she finally analysis the man, she sends me a wink.
Oh god, I hope Taehyung didn't see that.
And the second I twirl around, my eyes meets his brown ones.
Why was he even staring at my head though?
My whole motive is to ignore whatever question he puts in front of me like how am I here, why he is here or anything else— I don't know if I can do it but I will try my best. After all, it is not our normal life and we both have responsibilities over our shoulders.
"Hey."
I send him a side smile.
Like wow, his hand is out to have a handshake and you stupid girl just is greeting him with an awkward 'hey'.
I immediately pull out mine and engulf his hand with my clammy ones but.. who cares right now.
I do though.
But the main thing is why the hell are me and Taehyung the only ones in the huge, empty orientation room? Where are the others, especially the ones who were standing by my side moments ago.
"Guess everyone went away."
My words seems to break him out of his trance as he frantically looks around, trying to find a living being but when he doesn't, he nods.
"Oh, yes."
Just two words and I feel the surroundings getting awkward again. Before anything can trip over, I need to loosen him up.
Think Goeun.
"So let's go and start the training, shall we?"
No senior can even think of starting the training now and must be spending time to know better about the recruits and loosen them up.
I knew I will panic and say something absurd.
"Yeah sure, but can we like rest for a while? I mean, everything that is happening since yesterday is too much to handle."
He is right.
The day when I got to know that such a place exist on Earth, it freaked me out too— I was quite small at that time.
When I was 16, I officially became an agent and with my senior who is now our department's boss— Namjoon, yes my friend, uttered the same lines as me. He asked me if we can start our practice after only 10 minutes of our introduction and I replied with the same lines as Taehyung did.
"Sure way, I understand what you are feeling. It is kind of hard to believe that you are here."
"More like when you never thought such a place exists. I mean yeah, daydreaming about being the superhero who saves the Earth is very easy yet just an imagination. Right now, it feels like I am suddenly in my imaginary world."
"I understand, completely," I nod and take a step forward. Pointing my index finger towards the door, I signal him to follow.
"Let's walk and talk for now, okay?"
"That is best," He grins as I try my best to stop my biggest one from coming on my face.
