1.17 - Birthday

I wake up as the bright light from the curtains enters the room, lightening every dark corner. But a bare, yet noticeable voice grabs my attention in a swift.

"Gyong?" I chuckle as a soft curse comes from his side.

"Yeah, yeah. You got me, happy now?" He stands up from his hiding spot, ruffling his hair around in a messy nest.

"Happy? Well—"

"Oh shit," His eyes widens, words escaping his mouth like a bullet train. "What?"

"Happy birthday, Goeun!" And he starts clapping his hands in more of a comical way. Making his way to my bed, he patts my back for a solid 5 seconds and as hard as he can.

"Oh my, thank you Gyong. This was so expected," My hand founds his and in a second it gets engulfed in my grip.

"Well, come on. I have got you something here," Taking my hand in his, he leads me towards his room. My bare feet seeps the coldness from the floor beneath but my excitement makes me forget any other emotion.

"Here, open up," Handing me a black velvet box, closed by a ribbon and making a bow in the front, he backs away a little and chuckles.

Just as my fingers continues to open the tight bow, a heart wrenching pain emerges from my chest. Eyes filled with tears, the second I feel the shadow lingering around me, I let out a large groan.

"Happy birthday, sweetheart."

Though my eyes are open I can't think of why— my heart is pounding, mind empty. The adrenaline rush is so painful—  I strain into the utter darkness, breathing rate beginning to steady.

What does that dream signify?

I know that after a long time I have finally met Gyong again, even though him being so much for a trouble maker but still, the memories that we have made together still lives within me. He may have forgotten those moments but I can never forget the kind hearted Gyong.

With a loud sigh, I let my feet fall on the floor. I close my eyes while relishing the same coldness that I felt in my dream— filled with nothing but strangeness and betrayal.

Just when I come out if shower, all dressed up to begin the day with gloom still persistent, the loud knocks on the door gives me a good idea of what is going to happen soon.

And when my fingers even touch the lock, it snaps wide open and a pair of arms engulfs me in the tightest hug possible.

"Oh, I— Jimin, loosen up, I am suffocating," I pat his arms softly but he twirls me around like a ballerina and jumps along the way.

"The day of suffocating you with lots of hugs and care has finally arrived! Happy birthday, Eun!" He finally let's me down as I grin widely. "Thanks for your hugs and care, hun. Let's go out, shall we?"

Through the way, a number of arms engulfs me in their hold, I don't know why. Being the least favorite agent has given me this attitude but such affection is driving me crazy from happiness.

Just when I spot Gyuri, I try to walk to her with a wide grin constant on my face but then a body stops my movement and it's none other than Taehyung along with Jungkook.

"Happy birthday, sister. I see that you are getting lots of attention there, huh."

"You know, I am astonished too."

With that my brother engulfs me in the most strongest hug that I have ever received in my lifetime.

"Woah, easy Jungkook. Otherwise your sister's going to choke," A bitchy tone of a bitchy girl resonates from my side.

Girl, be grateful that you aren't choking by now.

"Have a good birthday, Goeun."

"I will, Miyeon," With a smile, she scatters away quickly. And so does my brother, leaving me and Taehyung alone.

Awkward.

"Happy birthday, Goeun."

And a sparkling box emerges from its hidden spot, Taehyung's hand slowly revealing it.

"You didn't have to, Taehyung," I giggle. The beauty of the box is itself breathtaking, imagine what it can hold in it.

"Oh, of course. This is necessary," Winking playfully at me, he smirks.

My eagerness takes the best of me, I open the box in a hurry as it shows an elegant, shining sliver bracelet— a vintage one, just what I love.

In a second my arms itself is around his neck, hugging him in utter gratefulness. I am filled with loads of joy.

"I love it, thank you so much, Taehyung."

"Well, I am sure you are going to love other things too, Goeun."

Jimin smugly enters in the scene from behind as I shake my head. This exactly was his plan, wanting me to realise my actions.

And what's more surprising is that Taehyung is also sending me constant smugly looks.

"What other things?" But his statement repeats itself in my mind as I catch his keyword. And of course I can't help but ask for the same.

"Look there," Jimin points towards another side as with a loud pop, other agents jumps around me. Gyuri comes too, with a beautiful cake in her hand.

I can't help but let out a gasp, I am beyond surprised. Never in my lifetime I have had such an amazing birthday.

"Sorry, that this is too late. You know, just after arriving here we planned all of this," Jimin explains.

"Also, we know about your 'punishment'. So well, here it is."

"Thank you so much, I love this," Eyes watered, I smiled as brightly as I can. Even though I have got a train to catch in 2 hours, I hate to depart on the day of my birthday.

"Well, cut the cake, princess," Jungkook hands me the knife, with a nod, I cut the cake as loud cheers resonates around the room.

"Happy birthday, Goeun," A touch is felt on my arm as I follow the lead to find Namjoon beside me. "I am sorry to give you a punishment on such a special day."

"I know. Rules are rules, Namjoon. It's alright," I give him a side hug, he rubs my back in response.

"Sorry to interrupt but we have a train to catch soon. We should get ready," Taehyung enters from the side as Namjoon raises his hands.

"She is all yours."

Skipping the packing part because I have basically packed nothing— all of my necessities are already present in my penthouse.

Though I did insist that I need my power bracelet too, I mean how much does it take for trouble to enter my life but Namjoon and Jin yelled a straight no, saying it's my vacation so I should rather enjoy it.

I don't agree at all, what if the trouble can't be solved by my combat skills and need higher powers?

But these guys can never understand.

Throwing fits and grumbling around like I normally do, I spit a goodbye to my acquaintances.

Everyone wished me luck and prayed that everything will go smoothly. They shared their totally unnecessary tips in order to avoid troubles and made me cram their emergency numbers so if I ever fall in one, I should ring it at anytime of the day.

Last left is Jungkook, who on the other hand is nowhere to be found. I practically jogged the whole building in order to find my brother, considering the gymaholic he is, he can be working out at any corner of the building but the result comes nil.

Guess I will just call him once I arrive at home.

Standing near the lift, I patiently wait for Taehyung so that we can depart at the same time. What's the use of going individually when we are going to board the same train? This way we will have each other's back.

My friends are already by my side to send me off as second by second they repeat the same words of courage and enjoyment to me.

Once the frantic sound of wheels are heard from a distance— one and only Taehyung appears in my sight with a luggage in right hand and a duffle bag in his left, also a backpack which is almost half filled by seeing itself.

"I am sorry! I am sorry!" He exclaims as soon as he arrives and stands beside me, huffing frantically and sweating a little too.

"Stay safe alright?" Jimin pats my shoulder as I nod, reassuringly. He is always caring and worrying about me, of course when two of the boys are literally coming on him if I get injured then this is the only reaction he can give me.

Gyuri just hugs me and waves her hand— small gesture that makes me happy the most. I hug her with as much pressure she exerts in the embrace.

Boram and Dohee wipes their imaginary tears off their faces.

"Stay safe, agent."

I chuckle and send them a salute.

"All ears, commanders."

"Enjoy the expulsion cum vacation, little monster," My phone rings the second I step back from my friends and Namjoon's message comes on the top of my notification.

"Don't you dare skip your meals or get injured," Jin warns while patting my head a little too harshly. I groan as I grab his hand in mine. "Sure, mom."

"Where is Jungkook?" Jin asks while chuckling at my reply and turns his head around in order to locate my older sibling.

"I don't know too, I have already checked the whole building but he is nowhere to be-"

"I am here!" The sudden yell indeed scares me a bit as he arrives in our view while pushing a black luggage.

Why?

"Jungkook? What is with that luggage?" Jimin questions as he eyes the boy and the thing in his hand. Jungkook sends him his signature grin, throwing everyone off their focus and finally looks at my confused self.

"It is a vacation for me too!" He happily exclaims.

"You mean.." I try forming the words but they fail to come out of my mouth— my insides turn violent with excitement.

"Yes! I am coming with you both!"

And since then, my brother is always sitting between us— me and Taehyung.

Even if it is in the taxi or train, even if there is barely a seat for two people, he will somehow find a way or another to push both of us away and make a suitable yet congested space for himself.

I don't know exactly what is my brother doing and what is happening in his head but I swear it is making me embarrassed in front of Taehyung.

I mean, what if the boy wants to talk? Even about studies or work— he is clearly not comfortable with my brother sticking with us and knowing how Jungkook has a firm and rough impression over others, no one can actually socialise with him in the first or even second go, no matter how extrovert they are.

But just when Jungkook stands up from his seat and walks away for whatever purpose, Taehyung scurries towards me while whispering in my ear— the position quite flattering as I bite the insides of my mouth in order to stop my frantic heart.

"Your brother doesn't like me, right?"

He asks with eyes filled with innocence which zips my mouth shut. No denying the fact, I already expected this question from Taehyung, it was just the awkward situation we were placed in front of Jungkook that the boy didn't get the chance to ask.

"Of course no, but he is acting quite differently today. It is weirding me out too."

"No doubt he is quite a good brother," He nods and smiles towards the direction where Jungkook walked to, moments ago.

But I sigh in exaggeration.

"Spare me with this talk, I have tons and tons of problems dancing over my head because of that dude," I chuckle at the mere thought of those troubles and glance down at my own hands.

Though no doubt he is the best brother— the most suitable one for me.

When no one was there, he had my back. Just being orphan was too much, but when he reassuringly smiled at me and gave me his biggest comforting hug, I knew that I am all safe even without my parents.

"Adorable."

I hear that mumble which breaks between my thoughts and forces me to raise my head towards Taehyung. But as weird as it looks, he is facing towards the opposite direction and humming a melodious tune of the song.

Did he really called me adorable?

Was that compliment for me?

"Give me my seat back!"

Jungkook, out of a sudden jumps from my side welcoming a a mini heart attack for me as Taehyung moves far away— as much as possible, giving the seat to my brother.
