Part 10
When the morning light came, Nora woke up like usual and the night incident slipped through her mind. She went into the bathroom to relief herself later starts brushing her teeth and washing her face after. She stepped out her bedroom only to find Henry already awake and was sitting on her couch staring at the space before him.
"Good morning Henry." She greets him but Henry was lost in his own mind before she sat herself down next to him. "Hen." She held his arm that rest over his thigh startling Henry from his thoughts. "Hey, it's me." Nora says calming him down from his shock.
"Nora." He whispered softly holding her hand with his trembling ones.
"Henry what happened last night?" She asks and Henry returned his gaze forward with a soft shakes. "I don't know." He lied.
"Don't lie to me! I was so scared Henry! It's bad enough I had to deal with it alone, you had the audacity to lie to me! The least you could do to pay me back for my kindness towards you Henry is starts telling me the truth or you will have no place in my life anymore!" Nora didn't mean to yell at him so early in the morning but she was exhausted and she barely had enough sleep without the nightmare of last night.
Henry breaks silently into tears when he heard her and Nora felt bad from yelling at him. He turned to face her with tears covered his face, "If I tell you, promised me something." Henry starts and Nora fixed herself sitting straight facing him. "I promised. Whatever it is you had to tell me. I promised to do everything you told me." She says raising her palm up. Henry smiled before he turned himself to face her on the couch.
"Promise me you can never, ever tell anyone about this. About me." He says and Nora nodded, "I promise." She repeats. "Not even Alex Nora. You can't tell him anything. Or I will die." Henry says which cause Nora to furrow her eyebrows at his words. She didn't say anything else except letting Henry continued.
"I was born with gifts. Gifts that I wished I never had. I remember I was about four when my father asks me why I keep talking about my grandmother in my nursery. I told him that she always stayed in my room to keep me company. She never speaks, she always smiled and let me played. Only then I knew that she passed before I was even born." Henry starts and Nora frowned.
"You're saying that you can see dead people?" Nora didn't mean to sound so vague but somehow she sounded like she was in the Sixth Sense movie and Henry is the boy under the pink blanket.
"I'm saying I see what they wanted me to see. Some of them are warm, kind but some of them are cold and vile. Last night, it was one of the latter." Henry continued and Nora's face was beyond readable. She was torn between believing in him or thinking that Henry is making this up.
"After my sister died, I kept seeing her running around the house, threatening to kill my brother. At one point, I saw her smiling before I realized that he was right under her trapped. She wanted him dead. But I tried to stop her and my brother thought I was the one that wanted to kill him."
"Why did he think that?" She asks and Henry couldn't face her.
"Because I was running to him with a knife on my hand. I was trying to stop her from hurting him but-" Henry paused letting a tear fell on his cheek.
"But he thought I was trying to kill him so he had me locked away for years." Henry continued and Nora gasped after what she heard. "For ten years years Nora. I didn't see the world outside those walls. I didn't see him until my best friend came to rescue me. He thought I was trying to kill him because I want to gain control over our family's wealth. He misunderstood me and sent me away." Henry turned to face her that now holding her tears back.
"I suffered at that place. They tortured me, do stuffs on me because they were curious about me. They think I had delusions after my parents and my sister tragic's death. Their treatments weren't any from this century. You can imagined the suffering I had to endure for their own satisfaction. I was already giving up and prepared to die at that place. But if it wasn't for my best friend bribed my escaped with one of the guards there, I won't be here today Nora."
"Henry." Nora calls after some time she was silent. "Can you see June?" She asks but Henry kept his silence for a while before he shook his head, "I can only see what they wanted me to see. It's not like I saw them walking around me like in the movies." Henry states but it didn't convince her.
"But if you looked harder, can you?" She asks and Henry turned to face her.
"There's consequences Nora. Connecting with the dead will do consequences on me." Henry explained which Nora nods understandably. "But to answer your questions, no. I don't see June. I don't even know what she looks like." Henry lied but Nora stood from the couch to grab one of the frame that she had stacked on the floating shelves behind her. She sat back next to him and handed Henry the photo of her and Alex with the shoulder length hair girl in the middle.
"Thats June. Alex's sister. She has been gone for ten years." She says and Henry stares at the photo in his hand. "If you saw her that would explained she is dead and all of us can rest from keep looking for her." She says further but Henry shook his head and handed her back the photo. He turned to look at her when she saw the girl sitting besides Nora looking back at him.
His breath hitched but she kept a finger over her lips signing him to keep quiet and don't tell anyone she's there.
"She was the most beautiful girl I have ever met. She was kind, warmth, funny and so smart. She was the opposite of Alex." Nora smiled stroking her thumb over her photo. Henry couldn't keep his eyes away from her staring deeply at Nora. "If Alex was chaos, she is pure calm. She kept the house in order, she kept Alex in order from lashing out. But after she was gone, Alex went rampage." Nora added.
"The night she was taken, I wasn't at home. I was at the store because I was baking her favorite cake for her birthday. When I got home, it was a complete mess. I called Alex immediately after and ten years had passed ever since." Nora cried holding the framed tight in between in her palm. "I wish I was there to save her. I rather died saving her that night than living like this not knowing what happened to her." She says pressing the frame closer to her chest.
Henry eyed the girl that starts tearing at Nora next to her. Her gaze desperately longing at her to look back but she didn't want Henry to gave her any hopes.
"Let her grief Henry. I can't promise her anything now. She deserved to move on with her life. Not stuck in the past." June says and Henry stares at Nora clutching the frame towards her chest in tears.
"She won't want you to linger in the past if she knew. Ten years is too long." Henry whispered back but Nora glanced back at him, "Your best friend didn't give up on you. I'm certainly won't give up on her, so does Alex." Nora replied and Henry took a deep breath before he exhaled.
Henry wrapped his arm around her and pulled Nora into his side. He winced when Nora's body hits him on his wound and pulls back immediately worried etched on her face. "You're hurt." She says but Henry dismissed her silently before pulling her back into his arms.
His eyes stares back at the girl sitting next to Nora before she leaned against her back resting her cheek when Nora shivers. "Gosh I hate the cold. let me turned up the heat." She says before running towards the thermostat and clicking on the button to adjust the temperature.
.
"Are you sure you're okay to continue working here?" Nora asks worried that Henry would be triggered by being here in the shop after what happened but Henry insisted to help her clean up after leaving a huge mess last night.
"I'm fine Nora." He says grabbing the trays and fallen cups on the floor. He winced when he straightened his back before Alex broke their moments.
"Oof, who did you pissed?" He asks setting the lunch bag on the counter. Henry gaze at Nora sweeping from inside the storage, "None of your concerned." Henry spat continued on setting the rack back in place.
"Well that guy got a hit on you better than I did. I should congratulate him or her." Alex says pulling out lunches from the bag out on the table. "Alejandro shut up!" Nora yelled causing Alex to frown at her. "Why are you shutting me up for? Are you the one taking a swing at him?" He asks with a soft laughed but Nora grabbed the broom stick and knock Alex over his side which he groaned in pain.
"What the hell was that for?" He asks and Nora continued on sweeping, "For your mouth." She says and continued on her sweeping. She heard Alex clicked his tongue at her before setting up the lunches on the table for them. Nora washed her hands and joins in when she noticed Henry is just about to come out of the storage room with his hand carries a broken crumpled tray.
"I'll pay for this, I promise." He says placing the tray down in one of the boxes for trash. "Don't worry about it. I have more." She says dismissively which caught Alex attention. "Why are you replacing it? Did you break it?" He asks and Henry was about to answer when Nora cuts him off.
"Of course not! Come and eat your food." She gestured for Henry to sit besides her before placing the container on the table before him. Henry noticed the burning stares coming from Alex from the opposite side but choose to ignore him eventually when Nora starts breaking out Christmas dinner plan.
.
Henry was slavering in the kitchen with Nora prepping for their Christmas dinner as scheduled. Nora wasn't surprised Henry was quite a quick learner when it comes to cooking. She already had the honey glazed turkey in the oven when Henry finished making the creamy baked mashed potatoes. She tasted with a dip of her spoon and moaned at the taste. "This is better than mine." She says and Henry smiled placing the tray down on the table.
Minutes later Alex appeared with bags in his hand and placed it down under the Christmas tree Nora had put out before taking his scarfs off his neck and tossed it over the couch. Henry couldn't help but stare at his handsome figure in his fit black suede coat he had pulled out revealing the white cashmere long sleeves in turtleneck he had on with his long burgundy slacks that hugs his thighs greatly.
"Smells good Hollaren." Alex greeted her with a kiss on her cheek after passing by her mistletoe by the kitchen entrance. "Thanks to Henry. I won't be able to cook this without him." She says setting the dinner table while Alex gaze went to Henry standing by the end table cutting through the vegetables for salads.
He stood beside him with a raised eyebrow impressed by Henry's cooking skill. He couldn't help taking over when he grabbed the knife from Henry's hand and continued dicing the tomatoes while Henry shook his head at his gestured.
Henry continued to check on the turkey with a hand towel slung over his shoulder. Alex couldn't help staring at him wearing the soft blue long sleeves cotton turtleneck that hugs his broad chest. His jeans are faded blue but it was designed such color although Henry wearing it amazingly.
He was pouring the mashed potatoes into a serving bowl when Alex dipped his finger into the bowl for a taste but Henry slapped his hand away. "You did not just did that!" Alex was shock by his gesture considered he will literally kill anyone that touched him.
"Where are your manners? I thought you are rich? Couldn't buy yourself a table etiquette Alexander?" Henry calls and Alex never hear someone called him the way Henry did. The way Henry's tongue rolled when he called Alex by his full name made his heart thumped against his chest.
But Alex dismissed that thought immediately before snatching the serving bowl from Henry's hand and continued to dip his finger into the bowl and licked the tip with a smug on his face. "I do whatever I want, however I wanted to chico." He continued to take another dipped of his finger into the mashed potatoes when Nora came from behind him and knocked his head with a wooden spoon.
"OW!" He yelled at Nora but before he could protest Nora snatched the bowl away from him with a grunted look. "What are you five?! Go and helped sets the table. The guests are coming soon." She yelled at him which earned Henry a belly laughs but he immediately stopped when Alex glared at him.
.
The dinner went amazingly with few of their friends joined altogether. Although Henry barely knew anyone but their friends are mostly Alex's loyal securities and Nora's neighbors.
Nora couldn't help checking up on Henry once a while when she sees him disappeared into the kitchen pretending to pour drinks for the guest but she knew he was overwhelmed by the people he barely knew.
"Shan!" Glad you can make it!" Alex yelled from cross the room when Henry turned to see an Indian gentleman walking in with a black haired woman on his side with a champagne bottle in their hand. Something about the man seems to familiar for Henry but he chose to ignore him and continued to serve the drinks to the guest.
"Henry you are one of the guest, not a waiter. Stop serving this people." Cash whispered next to him and Henry smiled placing the tray down for them to have the drinks. "I don't mind." He says and smiled his half smiled at Cash. Over the pasts weeks he had known him, he noticed how Cash had grown warmth interaction with him. He didn't know why he had a soft spot for him but he took his kindness for now since he needed to get on Alex's good side.
"Shan I wanted you to meet someone." Nora pulled Henry by his arm to introduced him to the new guest when he saw the same Indian gentleman that walked in stood before him. He smiled at him but before Nora could introduced him, the guy cuts her off.
"Henry?" Shan called surprising everyone that was there especially Alex that stands next to his wife.
