Chapter 3
The sky was clear, the birds are chirping, and you basked under the rays of the sun.
Nothing could ruin this day.
Your phone rang, making you feel quite curious as to who was calling you during this time of the day. Once you saw who the caller was, your blood ran cold. Every time that she phones you, which was not often, nothing good usually happens. So now, you're actually kind of contemplating whether you should click the green button or not.
Choosing the former out of respect, her voice immediately met with your ears. "Ah, glad to see that you picked up! I just wanted to say that your father and I are going to have dinner with you. It'd be nice if your fiancé could join us. Adieu!" And with that, she hung up. You knew her too much to know that with the last sentence that she said, she's making it clear to you that he must come.
And by 'he', you mean Kambe Daisuke.
So without further ado, you went to the contacts of your phone before clicking the 'call' button. It only rang once before he answered, making you surprised to know that he picked it up this quick. "Uh- wait. Hey? Mother wants you to come over for dinner. I mean that it's not like you need to go or something. If you're busy, you don't have to go." You said over the phone, in hopes that he would make your life easier by not making an appearance tonight.
"I'll go," and his reply was immediate. "Thanks for your response," and you immediately hung up. You clutched your head in your hands.. Having him there means that you have to show them that you love him.. And you weren't exactly that great when it comes to acting so you don't know how exactly this whole thing would turn out.
"Tanaka."
"Yes, my lady."
"Please prepare extravagantly for tonight's dinner. My parents are coming."
And 'nough was said before he bowed, immediately scurrying off to relay the message to the other servants of this household.
You just jinxed yourself for thinking that nothing would destroy this supposed perfect day of yours.

Your maids immediately took care of your appearance, applying light make-up on your face and covering the slightly dark bags under your eyes due to you pulling an all-nighter for sev'ral days. You donned on a dress that looked quite casual, yet elegant enough that you'd still look like a noble. All in all, you'd give yourself a five out of five rating.
Daisuke had just recently arrived, looking all polished with his hair slicked back. He looked great, as much as you didn't want to admit it. But, he looked like that all the time, meaning that you'd die before even having a chance to look at a haggard and half-assed looking Kambe.
"Glad that you made it," you said to him with a blank look on your face, looking all weary even though the dinner hadn't even started yet. He just sighed before walking closer to you, both of his thumb on the side of your lips as he tugged on it upwards. "Smile," he said to you while doing the same on his own, but his looked more natural.
"My parents-in-law must see that you're happy while being with me."

"You look as beautiful as always, Mrs. L/n", he said once your mother and father are now at the entrance. "Oh please, just call me 'Mama'," she giggled as she stated that. Daisuke bowed before them out of respect, and your father only chuckled at his actions. "You're very lucky to be with a man like him, Y/n," your father commented and you forced out a smile as you agreed, "I think so too."
"You flatter me too much," replied Daisuke as he slid an arm around your waist, pulling you closer to him. You just groaned out internally, just when would this charade end?

Now on your table as you finally started eating, your mother started out with small talks. "How is your relationship?" She asked whilst your father remained silent during all this, only joining in when he could connect with the topic.
"Ah yes, Ma. Kambe Daisuke.. I lo-" And you cut yourself off, finding yourself unable to say the world without stammering.
'Please don't say 'loathe'!' The servants chorused inside their minds.
Daisuke was about to cut in, until you opened your mouth to finally finish your sentence after coughing lightly on your clenched hand. "I love him so much.. I would be honest. At first, I only thought of this engagement of ours as a nuisance, but as we spent more time with each other, I realized that I loved him more than I anticipated," and you could only cheer in silence as you said all those words without stutter.
Everyone in the room was surprised, even the man whom you're betrothed to had the same reaction. He didn't expect.. this. Not at all. For now, he'd like to believe that what you said wasn't just something you stated out of panic. "I love her with the same vigor as well. She truly is the only female that I'd ever want to spend my life with," he continued, and your mother only smiled at you two, satisfied with the answers she heard.
"I see. So when will you two get married?"
Ah, the question you oh-so didn't want to hear.
"Next year. Though, the two of us would like to discuss more on this matter, whether we'd like to move it earlier this year," he was the one who answered it and you were glad that he did because you were sure that nothing but air would escape your mouth if you were the one who did so.
"I see, I see. I'm just happy that you two are getting along so well."
And as the sky became darker, your parents excused themselves to finally depart. Once they were out of your sight, you plopped down on the couch with a long sigh of happiness drawn out by you. "I survived.." Was what you only said after this whole ordeal.
"Y/n."
Daisuke called out for you.
"Yeah?"
"Was what you said true?" And you knew what he was talking about. You just shrugged, opting to provide him with an answer, albeit quite vague.
"Some of it."
Yeah, this was enough for him.
.. For now, that is.
