The story
I jumped up after hearing the rock at the entrance move once more.
"Perfect. Now we all get introductions."
The thin curtain that hung over the entrance was soon pulled aside to reveal 5 people, three clearly being adults. And she was there.
A smile exploded across her face.
"You're here."
"I told you. This is why I won the bets." Spring piped up.
"Maria? Is that really you?"
I turned my gaze over to one of the adults with a metal arm and white hair. They seemed almost in tears.
"Yes. Who are you?"
They laughed pulling me into a hug."hm. Well I suppose you don't remember me. You've gotten so much bigger since I last saw you. My name's onyx. I know your mother."
"Know may be an understatement." Laughed one of the other adults who looked quite like Luna.
"Oh shush Jackie." Onyx turned back to me fresh tears in their eyes. "That's my sister Jackie who also knows your mother."
Jackie smile sitting down next to me." Hello Maria."
"Well since we're in the process of introductions I'll finish this up." The last adult spoke up," my name is 'nightmare' and I also know your mother just like onyx. She used to talk about you a lot. This is Castillo, jade's twin sister, and of course Jackie's daughter spiriluna."
"You can just call me Luna." She replied laughing.
"So now that were introduced, we should probably tell the poor girl what's going on.
I nodded.
"Ha. Well where should we start?"
"Well you better tell her about jinx's story first."
"So we used to live in a place called evilfalls. It's not in this realm. We lived in the realm of dreams. There, you were supposed to train to become either an ultimatrix or an ultimate being, at least before the war. We lived there for years before you and your mother had to leave because it was thought to be unsafe for you."
"But why was it unsafe?" I asked.
Onyx looked at the ground for a few seconds before continuing.
"There was conflict. Between your mother's sister and I. The place we lived was pretty sheltered, so at first it was thought to be safe. But a child had been badly injured in your village. An ultimate being had seriously hurt them."
Alister shifted behind Jade, looking slightly saddened.
"After this happened, the whole village was more protective of their kids. You couldn't go outside after dark and you always locked your windows and doors." Onyx went on, "I wanted to help. I couldn't stand seeing so much pain. But I knew hex would not stop. So I did what I could to help. There's a certain spell you could cast. My mother used it on Jackie when we were younger to send Jackie to safety, so I gave it to your mother. She wasn't ready though. The spell had a few effects."
I knew onyx was referring to my mom. She had always had a large scar on her face that moved out in different directions around her eye.
I looked at her in disbelief.
"But how is this real? Why hasn't she told me?" I mumbled in frustration.
"She can't remember. I guess in some way she and you were the lucky ones. After the sickness hit and the leader not responding, your mom had tried to send you to her friend who would watch you until the sickness stopped. But nightmare and I insisted she go too."
"What was the sickness?" I asked despite the fact I was fearful to find out.
Onyx grimaced. "We don't know what the sickness was, only that if you caught it you would surely die. You would start coughing furiously, in most cases coughing up blood, and start having terrible headaches. Once it got really bad, you would start to lose a lot of blood. That was usually the cause of death. But there were a few unlucky ones who had to endure the torture of vomiting out their organs before choking on their own blood. There was no known cure, before Jackie found one."
My stomach churned. I had escaped a terrible fate.
"So why are you all here now? Why not sooner?"
"When you travel through realms, you're put into a sort of dream-like state. It can take years to pass through realms."
I looked up at Luna. "You said you were a dreamweaver. What is that?"
Luna smiled a bit. "A dream weaver can realm jump easily and basically control and create dreams. I may not be a warrior but I'm still useful."
I nodded looking around the room. It was a strange place here, but it was quite endearing.
I wish my mother was here to see it too.
