Spider webs and inner dreads
I sat silently in my seat as the bus sauntered along the road. My phone buzzed in my pocket, causing me to jump ever so slightly. Since earlier when I saw the girl in the sweatshirt, I've been waiting for something, almost like I was running at a wall and bracing myself for impact.
I checked my phone, glad it was only my friend, Rosemary, asking if we had summer homework. Rosemary was always avoiding doing schoolwork. She preferred to sit in her room reading creepypastas and watching marble hornets, being that her entire family were super into the paranormal.
I didn't have time to reply to her as I was implored by the massive line of kids to walk off the bus.
The thought of a new school was in all honesty terrifying. There would be new people, new teachers, and new classes. But I guess it's still the same situation I have always been.
The churning feeling in the pit of my stomach kept returning. I ignored it, dismissing it as only to be nerves.
I quickly looked around the courtyard, finding Rosemary almost immediately. She was pretty hard to miss after all. Rosemary had curly, short, brown hair that she adorned with many fake flowers and was quite tall. Also, she wore outfits covered with various symbols she believed would ward off evil, making her stand out in a crowd.
"Hey Rosemary." I said walking up to her "Or should I say hey Myra."
"For the last time, wearing floral patterns does not make me my grandma. Seriously, you're so weird."
I laughed, taking her hand as we walked into school. Rosemary was pretty much my best friend here, besides my cousins. We talked for a while about our summers before we were overtaken by the oncoming crowd of students.
When the school bell rang, my stomach trembled again with the ominous feeling I was still being watched.
I moved quickly to my homeroom, room 116, and sat down at a desk in the corner.
A chill ran down my spine after a full minute of sitting. I was getting pretty paranoid. Was it because of the girl I saw this morning? No, the girl I saw was just another normal person. It's my paranoia that's making me believe it was the girl from my dream. I just haven't gotten enough sleep. Oh great now I was beginning to doze off.
"Hello, are you Maria Reymonds?"
I snapped up at the person who had spoken. It was a boy, looking around my age , with jet black sleek hair. He was wearing the same outfit as the girl I saw on the sidewalk this morning.
Maybe I had seen him on the sidewalk. The person I saw had their hood up and if he was who I saw, it would explain why he was here.
I realized I hadn't yet answered his question and instead had been staring at the table.
"Ya! That's me."
"After school gets out, you need to meet me outside in the courtyard. Make sure your alone." He said turning to leave
"Why do I have to be alone?"I asked, red flags sprinting up about this guy.
There was no way I was going to meet someone alone, even if we were on school grounds.
He gave me a troubled look. I could tell me asking questions wasn't part of his plan.
"There's someone who needs to meet you, and she doesn't exactly like to be seen."
My stomach lurched again, but worse than before. It had to be her didn't it? The boy said she didn't want to be seen and I had to come alone. No, that can't be right, it's probably some trap he's using to get me to go .
What exactly would I be going to meet?
I hated not knowing. That's why I hated the dreams so much. Because I couldn't understand them. There was something missing. Something I need to help me figure them out. It makes me so frustrated not knowing what!
"Maria Reymonds."
"Yes!"
"Your schedule."
I swiftly got my schedule, hoping classes will take my mind off the dreams and the boy I saw earlier, who must have left while I was thinking, because he wasn't in the classroom anymore.
It had been such a strange morning. Everything seemed to drag on forever yet time passed so quickly. I felt like I was in that state in between sleep and consciousness, aware yet unaware all at once.
I had English first today. Good. English is my favorite class.
After about 5 more minutes of listening to the other kids on my homeroom yell, the bell rang and I walked up to the second floor.
By the time I got to room 206 most of the class had already gotten there. My teacher was sitting at his desk in the corner, writing something.
I looked around at my class. I didn't really know anyone here. At least there was no one wearing a black sweatshirt.
"Hello everyone! So as a second day activity, I thought we could write some poems. It's an easy way to start your first day of school."
Second day.
It wasn't the second day.
I feel weirder as this day progresses. I couldn't have missed a day.
I glanced at the window to my right. In the little alcove of the windowsill, there was a small spider, it's web was littered with flys and other bugs.
It would make sense...to record something. Then I will have proof this day happened.
Have you caught me tangled
Right Here in your lies
You've wrapped up my memories
They're dropping like flys
As I wait for you slowly
Fulfilling my dread
I see your cold stare
Still pictures my head
As I'm stuck here quite helpless
Wait for gruesome demise
And All that is clear
Are your blank spider's eyes
