07 More Trouble

In the end I decided to take them home with me. In the morning the two were beginning to regain conscious, but for precaution measures, I duct taped both twins hands and feet and their mouths as well. I just don't want any wandering neighbors to think this is some kidnapping, well it kind of was. Just as I was cooking up something in the kitchen which was more like a stove at the door way, I heard a moaning coming from one of them.

"RHMPTHMPSH!" Aine screamed the words through the duct tape, but there is way I could make those words out.

"If you would be quiet I'll remove the duct tape from your mouth."

But that only somehow agitated her more; so in the end I decided to keep her like the way she was.

"Stop complaining, I had to carry both of you to my house last night, it was a real pain in the ass, you must be hungry. Are you? I am making breakfast right now, so whoever is a good girl gets to eat if first?" I turned around and raised a brow and noticed Aurora was awake too. She scanned her surroundings, before turning to face and stare at me. Her stare was just as beautiful and cold as ice, feeling slightly uncomfortable, I called up Eji to see her intentions.

She is confused, but willing to acknowledge the situation. I concluded from her thoughts. With that thought guaranteed, I walked up to her and peeled the duct tape off her mouth slowly. She looked at me with confusion for a moment then asked:

"What is this place?"

"My house."

"Why did you bring us here?"

"Because you were both knocked unconscious and wet from the sprinklers. So..."

"I see you took pity on us..." she nodded to herself then quickly added: "And you are like one of us. A twin spirit."

That kind of caught me off guard, but I eager to hear what she was about to say;

"How can you be so certain?" I replied.

"My spirit picked up an odd sense when I first met you."

"Spirit, avatar I guess they are the same thing...go on." I replied, looking in her eye.

"Your spirit possess an odd quality...but from this distance I can sense its presence."

"So you are an insider on this type of stuff? Ok...so what kind of spirit do I possess?"

"...I can barely feel its presence, its power is not yet fully awakened, but I can tell it's a quiet and very gentle natured spirit. What's its name?"

"Eji."

"What an odd name, even for a spirit." Aurora eyes narrowed.

"Do you mind explaining?"

"Spirit names have meaning and can be found in myth and legends throughout the world. However I am unable to trace your spirit name to any myth or legends."

"I never wondered about that crap, anyways what's the name of your spirit?"

There was a pause; her mind was calculating the odds whether or not if it's in the best interest of her to tell me about her avatar; and in the end she decided to tell me, even though I already knew the piece of information through my ability.

"Hrimthursar. It's the name of a tribe of frost giants from Norse mythology."

"Make sense, you can create ice out of thin air. And your twin's avatar is..."

"You would have to ask her then."

"Probably not a good idea, she still looks like she wants to bite my head off."

"It appears to be that way. Oh, and whatever you are cooking, it's getting burnt."

It only took an instant for me to get what she is talking about, but is already too late. Holy s***! I thought as I quickly turned around I realized the breakfast I was cooking was in smokes. I quickly turned off the stove and tried to salvage the remains from it. Sadly most of the soup has gone bad already. So for the next ten minutes I put all my concentration into making some new food. By the time it was done I was exhausted, but the smell of it made it worth it all.

"Is breakfast ready?" Aurora asked who sat all the way in the living room. Well I really can't call it a living room because the kitchen is part of the living room...

"Yeah, just give me a sec..."

The food I made this time was in the Hong Kong style Xiao-long-Bao. I hope they like a bit of Asian because I'm not really familiar with the western style of breakfast. I made a 12 in total, and served them on a plate with a small vinegar dipping dish on the side, 2 forks and a pair of chopsticks, though I personally wouldn't eat any.

"There we go." I said as I place the dish on the table.

"What's this? I never seem this type of food before..." Aurora said, staring at the food with fascination.

"I bet there is lots of new food you haven't tried yet, people should always try something new once in a while." I said as I placed one of the forks in front of her.

She looked at the food then at her hands, and I instantly realized what the problem was. She couldn't eat without her hands, but cutting her loose of the bond would mean that she could potentially attack me anytime. I had to be decisive though, so without wasting time, I read her mind several times over again. And every time I got the same result.

She is not going to attack you for now, but there is no telling what she would do once she is set free from this house.

I guess I had no choice, trusting my mind reading results I walked over to the kitchen drawer and got out a pair of scissors. Next thing I knew I was cutting Aurora lose. Once she was loose, like I anticipated from my thoughts, she did not attack me. All she did was quietly sit down and stare at the food before her.

"It's not poisonous alright, pick one and I'll eat it."

She pointed at one, and without hesitating I ate it.

"See? Not poisonous." I said.

"I see..." she lifted her fork and stabbed one of the Xiao-Long-Bao, and took a small ladylike bite out of it. A moment passed and nothing happened, then she was gobbling the whole thing down. Well I am not the most amazing chef, but when it comes to cooking you could say I know a few dishes. Some of them I am pretty proud of mostly since I cooked for myself when I was little after all they say practice makes perfect...

"Do you like it?"

"This sensation...it's like nothing I have ever tried before."

"So does that mean it's good?"

"It's amazing!" Aurora shouted.

That made me blush a little, but I took it as compliment for sure. In the background I could have sworn I could hear Aine's stomach grumbling.

"If you promise you won't bite my head off, I'll let you join us."

"RMPHHHHHH!" I couldn't make out a single word she was saying, but I automatically assumed it was something related to carving my guts out and feeding my bones the dogs...

"My dearest Aine, your animal-like behaviour is ruining my appetite. I suggest you sit in the corner and watch us eat like a good puppy, won't you?"

"RAHHHH!!!" Aine retaliated at her sister comments, clearly displeased; talk about sibling rivalry, jeez.

"Let's pay no attention to my sister and continue on with the breakfast shall we?" Aurora said as she turned her attention back towards her plate.

"RAMPHSH!" Aine grumbled one last compliment, before rolling her eyes and glaring at us both of with equal parts contempt and hatred.

She's pissed for sure, but she won't attack me...yet. My ability told me.

"I think it's safer at this rate if we just let her join us, " I said as I crawled over to Aine and removed the duct tape from her mouth.

"WHY YOU SLY TOUNGE TWO FACED BASTARD!!!...."

"Hey don't get the wrong idea, just help yourself to some food for now."

"And you Aurora!" she turned towards her sister with equal hostility: "Why are you siding with that man? Why did you betray me!?"

"I am just doing what's in my best interest since the situation has turned a little sour." Aurora replied calmly.

"JUST SHUT UP! I HATE YOU!"

We watched her scream for about another a minute or so, before she finally began to wear down by her own breath.

"Fine, I would have some of that breakfast now..." Aine demanded catching her breath.

"I already finished all of it."

"CURSE YOU! I HATE YOU THE MOST!"

Looks like more cooking for me.

***

I made a dozen more fresh out of the oven Xiao-Long-Bao; as I watch the twins just wolfing it down.

"Another one please." Aurora asked politely.

"I command you to make another one!"

With all these demands coming up, I was sure I would die of exhaustion, or go bankrupt just by making them breakfast.

"Alright slowdown would you?"

After they had their fill, which I was absolutely grateful for; because I was having second thoughts about their stomach being attached to a black hole.

"I feel like I am going to explode..." Aine burped and laid back.

"Thank you for your food and servitude; I never had such a splendid meal in my entire life, "Aurora said graciously.

"I am glad you ladies had your fill, but I brought you ladies here for another reason."

The two glanced in my direction, like lioness stirred in the middle of their sleep.

"What do you want?" Aurora snapped at once.

"I just want to talk." I said simply, and I literally meant it.

"What do you want to talk about? Just quickly get over with it, I am so stuffed..." Aine said, stretching on the floor like a lazy house cat.

"I want an alliance with you ladies."

"...what did you just say?" Aurora asked sarcastically.

"I mean what I literally just said, I am newcomer here, and there are lots of things I don't know. But I can prove myself that I can be great asset to you ladies."

"I am very sorry we have no interest in hiring a servant for the tme being." Aurora said, making it sound like a 'no pass' in a talent show.

"Consider this carefully, do you think an ordinary individual could have attacked you and gotten away, much less defeat you in the process?"

"You were given information about us." Aurora cut straight forward.

"True. But even so, could an ordinary person have made all the jukes, and been sane enough to think he had a chance of winning in the first place?"

Aine just kind of laid back and relaxed, but Aurora was totally different. If her eyes had been able to shoot daggers, I would already have a thousand holes in me. But I couldn't back down now, if I did, all that work I had done to build up to this moment would be ruined. And all I could do now was be strong, and suck it up.

"...You said something about proving your power to us earlier. Now is time."

"Great, so how do you want me to prove it?"

"Talk to my avatar."

Whoa, this had gone a little far already. Honestly I didn't even know if my abilities were capable of that. That was mainly because I had never met another person with actual special abilities until I met Mi, and even so I never had a chance to talk or even get to know Mi's avatar. But this was my one and only chance, and even though the decision felt like running into a dead end, there was simply no turning back at this point. YOLO right?

"Alright, I'll do it."

"Alright you have 15 minutes, and it starts now."

15 minutes! That's like a nothing in meditation...well stop complaining, you are already wasting time with those useless complaints. I told myself. Then immediately after telling myself that, I began to concentrate and called out to Eji.

"Eji." I muttered quietly.

I could sense her presence, her image was very blurry, but I could still make out the basic outlines of her image. Seeing her now, gave me this warm feeling in my heart, like seeing an old friend that is always there for you, at your most time of need.

"Hi...I was wondering if it's possible for you to communicate with this other avatar, I believe that is called Hirmuthus?"

I really can't pronounce it honestly.

She nodded her head for moment, and then disappeared. A moment later she came back shaking her head.

"What's the matter? Is something wrong..." I paused, as her mental image floated towards me and tugged me by the sleeve, and began dragging me forward.

"You want me to follow you?" I asked.

She turned and nodded at me.

"Alright I'll come with you."

She dragged me forward all the way, until we came upon a curtain of light. The light was so intense that I had to close my eyes and raise my arms to block out the light, but it barely did me any good. When I opened my eyes again, the curtain of light was gone. I found myself in the middle of some place completely different. Eji had disappeared into nowhere, and I was left standing alone in the middle of an ice field that stretched out the horizon as far as my eyes could see. In the centre was this insanely tall ice mountain. That's what I thought it was a first; until it started moving. It was only then I realized what I am seeing right now was Aurora's avatar. This place was her mental world, the place where she stored her mental Avatar; the test I had been given. Now I had to try speaking to that thing; It was as big as a mountain, if not larger. And that's when that thing started to turn towards me.

Every step it took shook the very earth beneath me, and by the time we were face to face, more like my entire body to a very small portion of his face. He opened his enormous mouth that was large enough to swallow a school bus. I couldn't make out a word, because all I heard was this huge blast of ice wind that knocked me back ten meters.

"Um...hello?"

It opened its mouth and replied, but I honestly can't make out the words, all I heard was winds pushing me back. Eventually I decided I had enough of it, but I was so deep into the mental realm, waking up wasn't that simple. So I closed my eyes, and concentrated on things in the reality. 30 seconds later, I found myself back in reality, sitting cross legged in front of the table, facing the twins once again. Except this time Aurora looked rather amazed.

"So how did I do? Did I pass the test?" I asked.

"...You indeed have passed the test, but I must admit, you are the only person other than myself so far who has been able to communicate with my Hrimthursar. Not even my dearest sister Aine has been capable of that, despite how close we are." Aurora finished off her sentence with a disappointed sigh.

"Hey, I heard that you know!" Aine sat up angrily. "So...what do we do with him now?"

"A servant will perhaps come in handy now, since we are a little short on staff." Aurora suggested.

"I know! He would be our personal chef! That way he can cook for us, whenever we are hungry!" Aine called out.

"Ladies, can you just let me point out that in this agreement, we are all equal at least?" I spoke up, trying to get a say, but risking my life at the same time.

"Shut up no one asked you!" the twins said in unison.

Great, just what I wanted. Being bossed around my two little girls with super powers and capable of killing me with a flick of their finger, just what I need.

"He's my personal servant!" Aurora argued.

"He's my personal chef!" Aine argued back. Just like this, they went back and forth about another several hundred times, and out of the gloom they both turned to me and screamed:

"WHICH ONE ARE YOU CHOOSING!?"

Honestly, I just wanted to kill myself.
