05 Advice

I opened my eyes and found myself awake in a ditch.

I looked upwards and saw lush green leaves beside a clear blue sky. I got up slowly and found all the muscles on my body sore from last night's chase. What happened yesterday seemed so unreal that if it wasn't for all the pain across my body I would have just waved away yesterday's memories as a bad dream. With every last ounce of my strength I got up, stretched and began making my way out of the forest. At the clearing I saw a road; the same road I came across when I jumped in front of the train. In the middle of the road was a black Bentley. And unmistakably it was the one and only Bentley I know. As I began to travel towards the Bentley I realized that my steps were weighing me down. Each step was more feeble then the last. By the time I was at the door of the Bentley I fell upon both of my knees and was unable to get up again.

"You seemed to be able to make it through alive." Without even looking up I could tell it was Mi voice. The most calm and impalpable person I ever met.

"Barely." I tried to look up but found myself without the strength or will to do so.

"Come with me," she said as she opened the door.

In the end, the driver had to get out of the car and haul me into the back seat with Mi. Dying of thirst, Mi passed me a bottle of ice water and let me tell you, that stuff tasted finer and more refreshing and beats any other cold drinks on a hot day, that's only if you are desperate though.

"So where are you taking me this time?" I asked emptying the entire bottle in a single gulp.

"A place where we will not be disturbed."

"Your house?"

"No, a secret hideout."

I gulped.

"I warn you, if you try anything funny, I will kill you," all of sudden she took out her gun and pointed at me.

"Ok?" that was all I could say, timed with a cold bead of sweat dripping from my face.

"Do you anymore questions?"

"Uh...yes. The two freakish twin sisters who tried to kill me? They called themselves the Ragnarok sisters, is it supposed to mean something?"

"Aine and Aurora, the twin leaders of Area 8."

"Tell me more about them."

"I can't about it here; I will tell you more about it once we get to the secret hideout."

At this point, I best figured to just let it go. The rest of the trip went on silence...as usual.

"We are here." Mi said turning to face the entrance of what appeared to be an abandoned subway station entrance.

"An abandoned subway station? You can't be serious right?" I asked standing beside Mi.

"This subway station underwent construction about 3 years ago, and was abandoned about a year ago."

"Was there a specific reason why it was abandoned?"

"The truth has not yet been told, but there are lot of rumours why..."

"What kind of rumours?"

"Rumours that a ghost haunts the place, and that's what drove the workers insane the first place." That last bit caught my attention, and my curiosity.

"Whoa! You didn't mention any of that earlier? A ghost? People being driven insane?" I raised a brow.

I kind of wanted to see what a ghost looked like. I wondered if I could read it's mind, maybe I could unlock some secrets of the afterlife. And maybe not so much at the same time considering the fact, the ghost would probably just scare the crap out of me and I would get a heart attack and die or something. So meeting a ghost may not be in the best interest of me either.

"Rumours as just as inaccurate as the truth gets." Mi finished her sentence.

"Well if you say so," secretly I was kinda disappointed.

"Very well then, follow me," Mi said as she began to descend the staircase.

With no choice I quickly ran after her. As I caught up I noticed that there were still lights on here and there. Those lights keep flickering on and off, and might just go black at any moment like a horror movie. Once I was walking at uniform pace with Mi, she began to continue with her rant:

"This place is now secretly owned and operated by the Verne family as a secret meeting place for underground organization and affairs."

"Who's the Verne family?" my curiosity peaked again.

"My family...my father to be exact."

"Cool! So your family is kind of life the Italian mafia?"

"We do have some ties, but practically in a way...yes."

"So what's life like for being the daughter of a mafia boss?"

When Mi didn't respond I continued, "If you don't want to talk about, it's fine. Why are you so quiet all of a sudden?"

"We have gone deep enough."

"Yeah I noticed. So what was the main purpose of coming here again?"

"The Ragonorak sisters."

"Oh yeah, I totally forgot." I know it's quite embarrassing, but when I tried to laugh it all, instead all I got was a stern look from Mi.

"Alright no more joking. So could you just tell me about their weakness and stuff?"

"Do you know what will happen if I do that?"

"...I will be able to find out their weakness and be able to beat them?"

"And what happens if you fail?"

"...I understand. Then I won't fail."

"Bosses telling info about another bosses' power is forbidden, it's an agreement we all made between ourselves."

"But a crime ain't a crime till you get caught, is that what you are trying to say?"

Mi stared at me as if I was a tree jutting out in the middle of the road, and the only way is around.

"I suppose I have no other choice. But you must acknowledge this first; we live in two different worlds. It's not too late for you to leave this place and never come back again. Because the moment you cross into realm of our affairs, you will never ever be able to get your normal life back, and you are most likely to lose your life, is that alright with you?"

WTH, I bored as hell anyways. I didn't think too much. I just didn't like the thought of future a lot, but after that hell of a speech Mi gave me, well, my will was more firm than ever.

"Are you worried about me?" I teased.

"No, honestly I'd rather see you die."

"Never mind I take that back, but like I said, I already made up my mind."

Mi looked up at me for a moment, and seems she is going to say something, but in the end she decided to hold back whatever she was about to say.

"So tell me now, what are the Ragonorak sister's weakness?"

"...I can only give you a hint; I will leave the rest up to you."

"Fair enough." Hopefully it will be enough... I thought.

After that chat, I decided to head to the park and take a power nap for the main event tonight. But at the last moment I decided to do something else entirely instead.

"Eji?" I spoke inside my head.

At first there was no response, but after a minute or so, I began to vaguely visualize a blurry white figure inside my head. Moments later it reached its maximum clearness, which is like seeing the world's most beautiful portrait from the reflection of a mud puddle.

"Eji there is something I need to ask you." I said as I closed my eyes and tried to visualize harder, but my concentration had already reached its peak.

"?"

"Remember the first time we met Mi?"

I vaguely sensed a nod.

"I thought I saw a figure a humanly figure inside her head, do you think it could possibly be her avatar?"

Eji was silent as a tomb, and after a wait that felt like hours ranging to eternity she gave me the vaguest impression of a reply, I think it is...yes?

"I see...did you wave hi to her avatar or something?"

This time she replied much quicker, almost immediate, it was a simple no.

"I understand, people are kind of the same too, they are not so polite towards the person who just tried to kill them yesterday. Anyways, did you see any sort of avatar when we battled the Ragonorak sisters?"

Then straight out from the world's blurriest portrait I saw a nod.

"Let me guess, not so friendly either?"

Silence, and I don't expect her to answer that one either, so I moved on.

"Anyways what do you think of Mi?"

"...?"

"Like, is she a good person or bad person?" realizing my question was kind of shallow and stupid, I quickly corrected myself:

"...Never mind I was being to stereotypical there... how about if I put it this way; do you think she is trustworthy?"

"...I trust your decision."

Whoa, she spoke in an entire sentence, this was definitely a rare sight, as I recall, she only spoke in full sentence once before in my entire life. That was so long ago, I don't even remember it anymore. Apparently today was one of her more talkative days.

"Thanks."

Then my visualization began to twirl and melt into a dark muddle, so dark I felt the colors around me being sucked in. A few moments later I opened my eyes and found myself lying on a table, with my head resting on the table. I was back in reality again, the worse place one could be honestly. But I was a man with a mission, a man with duty and responsibility...ok maybe none of those yet. But one thing was for certain, if I don't make it through alive tonight...positive thoughts, I told myself. But I just kind of find that impossible at this point. Yet this felt strangely exciting, it's like fighting a boss battle, which means I should defiantly gear up and get some Exp. Well maybe it's kind of late grab some Exp, since this is my first battle officially, the one with Mi doesn't count, that was more like a one sided slaughter. But this time I ain't running away, well I am going run if I am gonna get my own ass killed or something, but I am defiantly not going down without a fight this time...hopefully. Anyways, time to go do some shopping for the upcoming boss battle, and hopefully I don't run into the 'boss' while I am at it. God help me. I prayed. Then without second thought I ran straight for the supermarket.
