The Chairman

The first time Alec met the cat, he had just walked through the door of his flat. Loud mewing was emitting from the living room. Throwing his coat onto the coat rack, Alec walked through the kitchen to find the fluffiest cat he had ever seen in his 21 years of life, lounging on his sofa as if he owned the place. Although fluffy, the cat was rather small and Alec's kitten Church, was glaring vehemently at it, hissing occasionally.A soft breeze brushed past and he turned to see the open window which the cat must have entered. With a faint sigh, Alec picked up the pile of fur occupying his home and upsetting his cat and placed it on the window sill.
"Go on now," he urged it, gently nudging it outside.

The second encounter occurred as Alec was leaving his flat to meet his sister Isabelle for dinner. As soon as the door cracked open, the cat squeezed through, strutting through the kitchen and leaping onto the coffee table and sitting squarely on Church. The kitten mewed in indignation. Alec sighed, closing the door.
"I really don't have time for you right now," he told the cat who only mewed in response. Alec tried picking the cat up again, but the furball made a leap onto the sofa. With a groan, Alec followed the cat as it leaped haphazardly around his flat occasionally causing a screech from Church. Twenty stress filled minutes later, the furry tyrant was finally in Alec's grasp.
"What's your name, anyway little guy? You're a little shit," Alec grumbled, turning the cat's collar so he could read the engraving. Chairman Meow.
"Well Chairman, you've had your run today, time to go," Alec decided, exiting his flat and placing the Chairman next to the elevator to find his way home.
"You're late. A half hour late," Izzy announces as Alec finally appeared.
"A cat was running rampage through my flat. Took me twenty minute to catch the thing," Alec explained.
"A cat?" Izzy asked, raising an eyebrow at her brother.
"Yes. Chairman Meow," Alec replied before walking into the busy restaurant.

The third appearance of Chairman Meow happened three days later. Alec woke bright and early with a strange weight on his chest.
"Off Church," he grumbled, turning his head and opening an eye. Church sat perched on a pillow next to his face, but the weight remained on his chest. Sitting up in confusion, the weight rolled off with an unforgiving howl. Alec screamed.
"How did you even get in here?" Alec yelled at Chairman who only mewed in contempt.
"I'm sorry, did I interrupt your beauty sleep?" Alec asked the cat in mockery. The cat hissed back. Alec glared. Eventually he relented.
"Fine, but if you're going to take up residency here, you're not sleeping here with me," Alec snapped. That night after work, Alec returned to his flat with a second cat bed, cat food, treats, various toys, and a another cardboard box. Dumping it all in his living room, Alec began diligently cat proofing his flat as the Chairman and Church watched from their spots on the sofa.
"Where did you even come from?" Alec asked, only for Chairman to stare blankly back at him.

For the better part of a month, Chairman Meow continued his dual residency with Alec and, whoever he actually belonged to. Alec had considered several times attempting to find the cat's owner, but as he grew founder of the fluff ball, he decided against it as he didn't want the owner to stop the Chairman from his visits. Finding the owner could wait, Alec decided. Besides, Chairman and Church were friends.

The fateful day finally came when Alec's best friend Jace came over with his girlfriend Clary, Clary's best friend Simon, and Simon's girlfriend who coincidentally happened to be Alec's sister. It was like a big relationship web that Alec was hanging off of. The Chairman has just settled on Alec's shoulders when Jace noticed him.
"When did you get another cat?" He asked. Alec shrugged.
"I didn't. This one just kinda, decided he lives with me. Sometimes," Alec explained awkwardly. Jace gave him a funny look.
"What's it's name?" He asked. Alec was about to respond when Clary decided to join them.
"Chairman Meow?" She asked as soon as she spotted the cat.
"As in Chairman Mao Zedong?" Simon asked as he and Izzy joined them.
"No. The cat," Clary replied.
"Alec has two cats?" Simon asked bewildered. Alec did not seem like a cat person.
"How do you know Chairman?" Alec asked suspiciously, eyeing Clary.
"He belongs to Magnus Bane, he lives in the apartment above you. Do you not know him?" Clary asks.
"No," Alec replied, holding the cat protectively now. Clary rolled her eyes.
"Honestly Alec, he's your neighbor," Clary said. Alec just shrugged.
"Well let's go meet him then," Clary decided, scooping the cat up in her arms, much to Alec's protest.
"Oh hush brother. Clary told me Magnus swings for the other team too," Izzy said with a wink before following Clary. With a groan, Alec followed his friends to the elevator where Clary dumped the Chairman back into Alec's arms.
"Come along," she said happily, prancing down the hallway before knocking on the door of Alec's upstairs neighbor. After a few moments the door swung open to reveal a, very attractive man?
"Hey Magnus," Clary said before inviting herself inside, dragging Jace, Simon, and Izzy with her. Magnus glared at the retreating back of the red headed girl before turning back to Alec.
"Magnus Bane," He said, extending his hand.
"Um," Alec looked down at the cat in his arms and Magnus seemed to notice the cat for the first time.
"Chairman! Where have you been?" He asked looking down at the cat.
"Uh, He, decided to take up residency with me and my cat part time," Alec replied.
"Ah! My apologies," Magnus said looking up at Alec, then back at the cat, and then expectantly back at Alec. Alec blinked.
"May I have my cat back please?" Magnus asked.
"Oh! Right! Of course!" Alec exclaimed, handing over the cat.
"I'll just be going," he said.
"You're friends are still here," Magnus said.
"Right," Alec replied turning around and starting into the flat before halting abruptly halfway through the door.
"Can I come in?" Alec asked. Magnus smirked at the admittedly very attractive man standing in his doorway.
"Of course," he replied, stepping back to allow Alec entrance.
"So can Chairman still visit? My cat has become quite fond of him," Alec said walking into the flat.
"Should I be expecting kittens?" Magnus asked in concern.
"No, Church is a boy," Alec replied.
"I see. Will I get to see more of Church's attractive owner?" Magnus questioned.
"Izzy is actually taken," Alec responded.
"I wasn't talking about Isabelle," Magnus replied staring intensely at Alec. Alec opened his mouth and closed it, then opened it again before replying.
"Um. Oh. I-I mean yeah," he stuttered out. Alec was saved from his awkward stumbling when his friends reentered the room.
"Great, tomorrow at 8, my place, bring your cat," Magnus said with a winning smile before herding them all out of his flat.
"What was that about?" Clary asked as the door slammed shut.
"I-I think he just asked me out," Alec replied, still slightly dazed.
"Dude. You know it's bad when you need a cat to help you get laid," Jace said with a snicker.
"Shut up Jace," Alec snapped.
"Maybe I should get a cat," Simon said. Izzy rolled her eyes.
"All you have to do is ask," she replied.
"Gross! There are things you don't need to know about your sister Izzy!" Alec exclaimed as they all boarded the elevator. When the elevator stopped at his floor he got off, waving goodbye to his friends. As soon as he walked into his flat, he was met by two pairs of glowing eyes. Church sat contentedly nestled beside the Chairman, who had a small piece of paper attached to his collar. Alec carefully removed the paper and unrolled it.
Looking forward to tomorrow night,
Magnus
Alec smiles as he sat down with the two cats. All because a cat got in through an open window.
