The Unexpected Farewell
The day Jenna's parents arrived was filled with a whirlwind of emotions. They were brimming with pride as they congratulated her on her impressive exam results. Jenna's mother hugged her tightly, her eyes shining with tears of joy. “We’re so proud of you, Jenna. You did so well! How would you feel about coming back home with us?”
Jenna hesitated for a moment, the weight of her decision pressing down on her. She had come to appreciate her time in the countryside and the people she had met, but the opportunity to return to the city was enticing. “Yes, I want to come back home,” she said, her voice steady. “But there’s one person I need to see before I go.”
Her parents exchanged curious glances as Jenna hurried off toward the park, where she had spotted a kid riding a skateboard. In her excitement and haste, she ran up to him and said, “Hey, can I borrow your skateboard for a moment? I promise I’ll bring it back!”
The kid, slightly bewildered but amused, handed over the skateboard with a nod. Jenna hopped on, her lack of experience evident as she wobbled but managed to stay upright. She rode awkwardly but with determination, making her way to Jake’s house.
Jake was in his front yard, finishing up some chores when he saw Jenna approach, awkwardly dismounting from the skateboard. She jumped off, nearly toppling over, and ran up to him, her words tumbling out in a rush. “Jake, I’m going back to the city. I just wanted to say that I really like you. Like, I like you, like you.”
Jake looked taken aback, trying to process her sudden confession. Before he could say anything, Jenna reached out and grabbed his hands. “I’m going to miss you. I want to see you again. I promise I’ll come back to visit.”
Jake’s surprise turned into a warm, genuine smile. He took a step closer, placing a gentle hand on her mouth to stop her from rambling. “Jenna, I like you too, princess. More than you know.”
With that, Jake leaned in and kissed her, the kiss filled with a mix of urgency and affection. Jenna melted into the moment, the rush of emotions blending with the sweetness of their connection.
As they pulled apart, Jake looked into her eyes with a hopeful expression. “You’re really coming back to visit, right?”
Jenna nodded, her smile broadening. “Obviously. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
Jake chuckled softly, his hand still resting on her cheek. “Good. I’ll be looking forward to it.”
Jenna gave him one last, lingering kiss before stepping back. She waved goodbye, taking the skateboard and heading back to her parents, her heart full of both excitement and sadness.
As she left the countryside behind, Jenna knew that she was carrying with her a part of this place and the people she had grown close to. The future was uncertain, but she felt a sense of closure and optimism as she looked forward to the next chapter of her life, with Jake’s promise of a visit being a comforting thought.
Her parents greeted her with smiles and supportive words as she returned to them, ready to start the journey back to the city. Jenna felt a sense of satisfaction and anticipation for what lay ahead, knowing that no matter where she went, she had found something truly special in the countryside—and in Jake.
