{0} Day One
***
The first thing that the girl knew when she woke up was that it was warm. It was a kind of warmth that made you want to curl up and never get out of bed. Something that, for some reason, she felt like she hadn't felt in a long time. A light was brightly shining in her eyes as she slowly opened them. A window was right beside the bed she lay in. The sun was shining through the window and straight into her eyes. Squeezing her eyes closed, the girl found herself stumbling out of bed and closing the curtains to the window.
With the light now gone, the girl was finally able to take in her surroundings. She was in a medium-sized room with medical tools and medicine all around. Nothing about the room seemed familiar to her though it very clearly was some kind of medical room. The girl didn't have much time to think about it. The door to the room opened and the girl froze. Slowly turning her head over to look, she saw a woman.
The woman seemed to freeze too. It was like they were both studying each other, afraid to make the wrong move. The woman had blonde hair that was slightly curled. Blue eyes stared back at her, eyes that had the slightest twinge of pain in them. That was something that the girl noticed as the woman studied her. The woman looked to be in pain the longer she stared at her. It was like she was hurting just by gazing upon her.
"Vienna..." A slight whisper came from the woman. She was the first one to break the silence... And the first one to make a move. The girl found herself taking a step back as the woman rushed over and hugged her tightly. The girl remained as still as she possibly could, not knowing what to do now that the woman was hugging her so closely. It was like she was afraid of letting her go like she would disappear if she loosened her grip for even a second.
Finally, the girl spoke, "Um..." That was when she noticed that her throat was dry. She was probably out for a while. For how long, though? For the moment, she decided to push that aside and ask the questions that were on her mind. "Who are you?" The woman pulled back and stared at her with the same sadness as before. "And where is this place?"
Once again, silence fell between them. It was like the woman was debating on whether or not she should even tell the truth. It didn't take her long to decide to take the easy way, the truth, "This is the Salvatore School and my name is Caroline. I'm your aunt."
Sadness was replaced with hope. Hope that the girl would be able to recognize her. This hope was going to be diminished because the girl stared back at her like she was looking at a stranger. The girl had no idea who the woman in front of her actually was. Even though the woman, Caroline, just told her who she was, there was nothing in her that told her, "Hey, I know you." All that her mind and body told her was, "Who are you? And why do you look at me that way?" The main question the girl seemed to have was, "And who is Vienna?" If Caroline wasn't crushed before then she certainly was. Tears built up in her eyes and the girl felt the immediate reaction to start trying to comfort her. "I'm sorry. It's just... I can't remember anything for some reason." And that was the last thing it took to break Caroline instantly.
