TRIPLE MOON GODDESS / PROLOGUE

❝ Hecate (Greek: Ἑκάτη, Hekátē) is the goddess of magic, crossroads, witchcraft, sorcery, ghosts and necromancy in ancient Greek religion and myth.

She was depicted as a woman with three-heads, thought to represent the past, present and future. ❞

Heavy is the head that wears the laurels, and Pandora Ambrosini's neck is beginning to break from the burden.

Prodigal daughter illuminated under the honey sunlight, she has never had time to be anything but the best. The eldest of the Ambrosini triplets, she takes on the never ending responsibilities that befall their little family with her sisters in mind, shielding them from the cruelty and monsters that infest the world as though it's her duty. A target has been plastered to their backs ever since they ran away from the orphanage, as many a time has their name been written in prophecy, carved into the constellations since the very date of their birth. There's nowhere safe for them outside the camp. Nowhere else to call home.

Perhaps they would've been safer had they stayed oblivious. Hecate had been silent for seventeen years, distancing herself as far from the Ambrosini triplets as she could, leaving their parentage up for debate since the day they crossed the camp borders. Some used to speculate that their combined strength and perseverance made them seem like candidates for one of the Big Three's kids, but who could really say until they were claimed? They were orphaned at a point when they were too young to remember their parents, unsure whether it was their mother or father that was godly. For seventeen years, it had been a complete mystery to everyone around them.

However, secrets are uncovered when one Percy Jackson demands for all the gods to have claimed their children by thirteen, and after so many wasted years living in Cabin 11, a trio of crossed torches appeared above their heads in phantasmagoric flame, flickering and amaranthine. Suddenly, it wasn't just the three of them alone together — they had an entire band of Hecate's children to call their family, united under the enchanted ceiling of their own cabin. Finally.

And yet, not every cloud has a silver lining. In the aftermath of the Second Titanomachy, Penny is left to pick up the pieces of her wounded sisters and the irreparable scars left by Kronos upon their home. The disappearance of the camp saviour hardly helps things along as well. She's coming close to her breaking point when Rachel Elizabeth Dare prophesies her inevitable doom, and how is she supposed to break the news to her sisters that their saving grace has metamorphosed into their sacrificial lamb?

Only time will tell. After all, heavy is the head that wears the laurels, and Penny Ambrosini's now crumbled under the pressure.

Acantha Ambrosini hadn't been the same after the Battle of Manhattan, the title of traitor destined to hang over her head for what seems like forevermore. She had always idolised Luke Castellan as a child and it hadn't taken much to convert her to the Titan Army, fighting against her own flesh and blood under the corrupt ideologies he had pushed onto her. She can't admit that she's completely innocent, but Acantha knows that she has truly turned over a new leaf, opening her heart to a sea of new beginnings. While her sisters are prepared to welcome her back home with open arms, the rest of the camp won't accept her completely until she's grovelling for forgiveness on her knees, and begging isn't on her agenda.

She's privy to the looks that chase her around, the murmured gossip traded between teenagers when she flits past. While Acantha doesn't care for the opinions of others, she isn't invincible to their cruelty and it had never been commonplace for her to rot under the scrutiny of her peers prior to the war. Something crucial had changed in her when she switched sides, her betrayal transforming not only her sisters but herself. She's vulnerable. It's clear to everyone around her that she'll never be the gentle girl she once was, her words barbed and her glares striking.

Then again, so what if they don't like her? That's hardly her problem. If the other campers no longer have any faith in her, why should she have to do anything but save her own skin? She'll watch her back, and they'll just have to watch their own.

Lilith is torn in the crossfire. Her family has been splintered down the middle, fractured and torn into two separate directions, leaving her stranded at the centre. Marooned on the shipwreck that used to be her solace, finding herself missing the simplicity of childhood which is seriously saying something, as they had been wanted by all sorts of beasts and monsters since they were six years old. She wants to establish her trust in Acantha again, she really does, but it's never that simple to mend doubts that will never quite go away. She had lost so much in the conflict that her sister instigated, and it wouldn't be easy to look past that.

The earth's influence on her grows stronger as the brief period of serenity fizzles out and a new problem is on the horizon. She's only just come to terms with the impact that the last war had on her, and she's in no way ready for a brand new one to shatter her peace of mind into a million pieces. As they embark on a journey all across North America, whispers and taunts from a voice seemingly in her head begin to control her, using her worst memories to turn her into something violent. Into the very worst form of herself.

Lilith has never been the strongest Ambrosini. She doesn't know how long it'll take for her to cave to Mother Earth's wrath.

Perhaps a prophecy is just what they need to bring them all together. A chance for a traitor to prove herself once more, an opportunity for a broken family to patch itself up again. There are things that have to be said and lines that need to be crossed, and the time for it is nigh, presenting itself in the form of a quest spoken by their bubbly new oracle.

It would've all worked out so well if it weren't for Clarisse La Rue's name being spelled out by the Fates, set in stone that she's to join them on their journey. Penny has never been fond of her, suspecting that what the universe has planned to be a mediator between the three of them will only turn out to be another steep hurdle on the road to forgiveness. She can tell that she's in for a long, long journey.

And unfortunately for them, a fragmented family can only take so much strain.
