Chapter 1-Introduction

We start our story in the district of Shyena. Shyena was one of the many districts in the world of Minecraftia. It was most famously known for the variety of foods grown there, ranging from golden wheat to the orangest of carrots. It was a peaceful district, with all its inhabitants getting along well. The houses were small and cozy, with shuddered Windows and small doors, and if you were to walk down one of the many cobbled streets, you would catch a wiff of the baker's delicious bread that is prepared every morning.

As you got further into the district's countryside, you would see fields of grazing cows and fluffy sheep, which would supply the village food and clothing during winter, when crops were killed by the furious frosts that would come with the season.

Though in this city's golden age, it was infested with a single pest, one that could cause unforgettable mayhem in the district if he wished. He was no more than 2 blocks tall, and had brown hair, which he pulled back into a rat tail and tied with a red hair band. His clothes consisted of a black and grey shirt, and black jeans, which both had purple knee and elbow pads slid over them. He had blood red shoes with white laces, and black and white gloves. He also wore a pair of mysterious black sunglasses, and a glowing purple amulet.

Sky's mouth watered as the tasty smell of freshly baked bread wafted through the air. Sitting in a tree in a nearby forest, he watched as the small district started to wake from the rising sun. Farmers were beginning to go work in their fields, women were starting to buy food and items in the marketplace, and wooden carts being pulled by donkeys or horses began rolling around on the cobble streets. He could hear the yapping of dogs playfully running through the crowds, and the delighted chatter of school friends on their way to the old schoolhouse.

"All that happiness and peace...it's sickening." He said, disgustedly. He angrily tore an apple off of the tree's branch, and threw it hard, in the direction of the village.

"Oh, how I wish I could cause some more mischief." He sighed longingly as he watched the district. Laying back against the old tree trunk, he let his legs dangle as he thought of ways he could disrupt the district.

"Perhaps I could cast a ghoul curse." He said with a chuckle. "Or maybe a frog curse, making all their voices turn into froggy croaks." He laughed at the ridiculously childish prank. "Or maybe I'll just do an easy one, like a random outbreak of fire appearing throughout the district..."

As he thought of mischievous pranks to pull, his senses of the surrounding world started to dull. Though he had extravagant hearing abilities, he didn't realized that a young hunter, who was around 9 years old, had spotted him in the trees. The hunter, who was out exploring the woods just outside the district, quickly dived behind another tree, hoping to not be spotted by the strange man. He peering around the tree slowly, not daring to make a sound in case he were to be heard. He watched as the man stood up and stretched. As the stranger stretched, the young boy noticed something hanging around the man's neck. It was a golden amulet, with a large purple stone in the middle. The stone was an amethyst, a stone very rarely found in Shyena. He dared to stretch his neck farther, trying to get a better glimpse at the piece of jewelry. As he craned his neck, his foot slipped on some hidden moss, and he lost his footing. He fell to the forest floor, and landed with a loud thud. The man in the tree shot his head around, quickly looking around the around for what had made the noise. The boy quickly scampered to the cover of the tree. Peering around the trunk cautiously, he saw the man reach for his sunglasses, and slowly pull them off his face. The man looked at a nearby tree, and the tree suddenly became stone. The boy gasped. Pressing his back into the wood, he wondered how long he would have to wait before he could get back to his village. He looked to his right, and saw a long line of stone trees. He looked to his left, and saw the same thing. Holding his breath, he barely poked around tree, giving his just enough area to see if the man had put back his glasses. Fortunately, he had, and he was now sitting in the tree again, as if nothing had happened.

The boy darted up from where he was sitting, and dashed back to the village.

The boy ran through the districts streets, dodging townspeople and carts full of food. He didn't stop running until he found his father's old cobbler shop. He rushed inside, panting, where he was met with his father working on an old pair of worn out brown boots. The air smelled of leather and shoe polish. A small fire kindled beside his work bench. His father, who had been busy at work, looked up from his project, a pair of old farming boots.

"Hi Joel. Catch anything today in the woods?"

"Dad! Dad we need to call the ringmaster, he is back!" Joel said breathlessly. His dad looked at him for a second, and then put down his tools. He walked slowly over to his son, and put his old, cracked hands on his shoulders.

"What do you mean, he is back?" The cobbler asked slowly. Joel began explaining everything, from the Amethyst to the stone trees. His father listened intently, his eyes growing wide with every sentence. Once Joel had finished, he father sighed and said," Then we must act as you said." Grabbing his jacket, he said sternly, "Come. We are going to the ringmaster."

Joel's Father and himself ran quickly to the outskirts of the district, to a small camp settlement. There were two colorful tents set up, each about 20 horses long and 30 horses tall. Joel stuck close to his father's side as the entered the campsite.

"Mr. Ringmaster? Hello?! This is urgent!" Joel's father called out, his voice echoing in the wind. As Joel's father waited for a response, Joel looked curiously at one of the tents. He thought he could see movement inside of it. Squinting his eyes, he managed to make out a shape of a body. The body stood up, and slowly walked out of the tent. Joel stared at it as it walked by. It stopped walking, and looked at Joel.

"Are you looking for the ringmaster?" The thing asked. Joel's father nodded. It raised its arm, revealing a hand with razor sharp claws on the end of it. It pointed to a smaller tent, behind the second larger tent.

"That's the ringmaster's tent." The thing explained. It then walked off.

"Thank you!" Joel's father called out. It didn't acknowledge him back. Joel looked at his father, and shrugged. Joel's father led him to the tent.

"Mr. Ringmaster?" Joel's father called again.

"Oh? Oh! H-Hello! What can I do for you today?" A man said from inside the tent. "Come in!"

Joel and his father stepped inside. The tent was warm, and housed a small desk and bed. Sitting at the desk now was a short, plump man with a large mustache and typical black ringmaster outfit, and large black glasses. His hair was brown and messy, and beneath his ringmaster's outfit he could see a red and white checkered shirt. His black top hat was sitting nicely on his desk.

"So? What are you two gentlemen here for today? Tickets to our next show? Questions on our superb acts? Prices for food-"

"No. We believe we have another creature that could join your circus." Joel's father explained. The ringmaster looked at him curiously.

"Oh? A new addition? Well, then we must get him at once! I will get my trappers to help. Will you please show us to where he was seen?" The ringmaster said excitedly. Joel nodded.

After the ringmaster had quickly called in some trappers, Joel led them back to the spot where he had seen the weird man.

When Joel had made it to the exact spot, his motioned to the rest of the group to be quiet. He gazed around the clearing, trying to spot the strange man once again. He couldn't see him sitting on any tree branch.

"Be careful. He has a weird ability, one I have never seen before." Joel whispered.

"What is this ability anyways son?" The ringmaster asked.

"He has the ability to turn things to stone." Joel said, pointing to the sets of trees that had been turned to stone earlier. The ringmaster's eyes lit up.

"Medusa magic? Why, I have never seen such a thing! I must have him! I must!" The ringmaster cried happily. Joel's father slapped a hand over the man's mouth.

Joel listened intently, trying to hear the man, if he were in the trees. Suddenly, he heard a rustle a few blocks away. Fixing his gaze into the direction of the sound, he realized it was the man, hiding within the foliage.

"He's in that tree." Joel said, pointing at a tree not too far away. The ringmaster nodded to the trappers, and the trappers moved in, not disturbing the area whatsoever. They moved like ninjas; Joel was sure that if he hadn't known the ringmaster had brought them, he wouldn't have realized that they were even there.

Soon, the trappers were surrounding the tree. Joel knew the man wouldn't be able to escape if he tried. The trappers advanced closer, and a flicker of movement appeared in the tree, as if the man had realized someone was there. The man stood up, and looked around. Luckily, the trappers had all taken cover behind dead logs and rocks, so they weren't seen. The man then quickly jumped off the tree, and that's when the first trap was sprung. A net fell from a tree, but the man moved so quickly out of the way that it didn't even faze him.

"Teleportation..." The ringmaster sighed longingly.

When the man had teleported, he had sprung another trap, this time with a cage appearing. He hissed, and teleported again. Two trappers sprang at him, but he dodged with skillful precision.

The ringmaster was biting his fingernails nervously. Joel could see that he wanted to trap this creature badly. As Joel watched him teleport around, he realized that he was teleporting like an Enderman.

"Dad, do you still have that knife mom had given you when you went fishing the other day?" Joel asked quickly. His dad nodded, and pulled it out. Joel quickly took it, and ran at the man. The man turned his gaze towards him, and smirked.

"You're really going to try to attack me? I'm much faster than you, so good luck." The man laughed, teleporting all around Joel. Joel watched his movements, and realized he was teleporting in a pattern.

Right, left, behind, left, in front, right, left, behind...

At that moment, Joel decided to lunge out to the left, swinging his knife. The man fell to the ground, dazed and grasping his now bloody ankle.

The trappers quickly moved in, pinning him down. The man hissed and kicked at the trappers, but they quickly put him to sleep with a type of shot. The man fell limp, and the trackers dragged him off. As Joel's father watched them, he gasped when he realized who it was.

"Joel, you just help them capture that pest that set that fire to the district to the village not to long ago!" Joel hadn't even realized that it was him. Joel smiled.

"Come on son. Let's go spread the good news." Joel's father said, slinging an arm around Joel's shoulder. As they walked off, Joel looked back to the capture site, and realized that the man's amulet had fallen off in the struggle. He ran back to grab it, and brought up to his father.

"Look dad...his amulet." Joel said, handing it to his father. His father inspected it, and then put it around Joel's neck.

"I think you should keep it. As a trophy of your victory."

Smiling, Joel and his father walked back to the center of the district, and started telling people about the good news, that they were finally pest free.
