Part 61

By the time Y/n had teleported back into the fight, the boys where well and truly reunited with Wanda and Vision. Before she could try and wrangle them again, White Vision flew into view. Not a second later, an army of tanks rolled through the town's streets. Wanda lifted her hands, preparing her magic and Vision brought the boys in.

"Listen boys, we never really prepared you for this," Wanda cut in without a look to her children.

"But you were born for it."

White Vision grabbed onto Vis and flew him into the library. The second they were gone Agatha raised the American soldiers into the air with a grin.

"Same story different century. There will always be torches and pitchforks for ladies like us Wanda." Y/n put her had on Wanda's shoulder as she lunged forward to catch the now falling men with her magic. The kept her standing. Y/n needed her to stay standing. Wanda turned.

"Y/n, handle the military. Boys, help your aunt. Mommy will be right back." The boys smiled at each other. Y/n leant down to her knee between them and whispered.

"Well, what are you waiting for?" Billy raised his hands up, blue magic growing in his palms as Tommy raced around the tanks. Y/n teleported back and forth, stealing guns and pressing buttons. Y/n looked around, counting the men.

But there she was. Y/n had remembered her form the episode, the one where Wanda gave birth. She was running, looking at the boys. She was going too put herself between them. Y/n took a breath and did what she knew best.

She teleported.

She grabbed the girl.

She teleported.

She teleported back.

Just in time for the bullets to hit her.

She was back in the white room. She looked down at the holes in her chest. Stomach. Heart. Shoulder. Sat up right on the floor, she knew where she was, and she knew who was there without needing to look up.

"You can't save me this time can you?" Her dad chuckled.

"Nope. This is a real mess. You know, that other girl is bulletproof now." Y/n looked up, she would have frowned but she  didn't have the energy.

"Well if I had known that I wouldn't be here." Her dad smiled and held his hand out to her.

"Don't worry about that. That's the past now." Y/n blinked.

"A whole lifetime ago, right?" She reached her hand out, but froze before grabbing his.

"Is.. is Lucas going to be okay? I.. it's all I want to know." Her dad, hand still held in front of him, shrugged.

"How am I meant to know? I died so long ago. But if you turned out fine, then I'm sure he can too." Y/n felt her eyes slowly well with freshly salted tears.

"Did I turn out fine dad?  Really? I'm selfish, I'm mostly alone, I never saved the world. Not really." She watched as he brought his hand back to his side.

"When I died, I asked my grandfather how you would turn out, if you would be okay. I... he didn't respond. He said he couldn't know for sure. The fact that you're here, my little superhero. The fact you're going so young. Ah, I feel like I'm dying all over again. But I am so proud of you." He voice was coming out in a whisper, softened by his matching tears. "You lived, how can I ask for anything better?"

Y/n regretted her letter. Oh the apologies she should have made. But it was all too late.

He reached his hand back out, and this time, Y/n took it.

And then it was all just... over.

Wanda stared at the letter. It had her name on it, she knew she would have to read it. She had seen it on the counter before... before the reset back to how things needed to be. Everything was gone now, the world she had created. But the letter was still there. It was not something she had made for herself, it was something she had been given.

The funeral had drained her, and the day was almost done. She sat down on her couch, reading her name on the front over and over again.

And when it was time, she opened it.

Wanda,

I think we both know who  this is from.

When I woke up from all of this, I felt something, and I knew what would happen. I wrote this letter, and you are reading it, so I guess I was right.

I wanted you to know something.

I do not forgive you.

You have stolen my last weeks of life, and robbed me of seeing my son ever again. I lost people that day too. We all did. But I could control myself. Now, because you couldn't, I am dead. I want you to know that if I died that night, it was your fault.

Do not talk to my son, do not try to meet him. He is not Pietro's. He has no relation to you. The only contact you need to make is with my friend who I left him with. Tell her I'm dead. She will blame you too.

I left the superhero life so I could spend all my spare moments with my son. Now you have taken me from him. I won't see him go to high school, or fall in love, I will not see his wedding the same as I did not get to see mine.

You sacrificed my family, my life, for the family you made up in your head.

You have to live with my death.

That is your punishment. It is nothing compared to what you have done.

But, I know that you'll be okay. I hope you get to be okay.

Just please don't forget me. Don't let me fade away too.
