Part 24

Natasha pulled Y/n off the ground with a smile.

"Wow, I leave you alone for one second and you pass out." Y/n stood slowly, holding her chest as she took deep breaths.

"Hahahahahahahahahahahaha, you are so very funny." Natasha winked and nudged her side. The pair walked with each other up to the meeting room from before. They settled down just as Secretary Ross walked in.

Y/n didn't want to listen, not to anyone but especially not him. He was talking about shooting Steve and keeping Tony from doing anything. It was unfair, all of it. They had just wanted to protect people, they thought they were protecting people. Y/n decided to tune in as Tony spoke.

"72 hours, guaranteed." Ross frowned.

"36 hours. Barnes. Rogers. Wilson." He walked out, not even looking back. Tony looked at him as he left.

"Thank you, sir." He brought his hand to his chest and rubbed his pec while squinting.

"My left arm is numb, is that normal?" Natasha walked over and patted him on the back.

"You alright?"

"Always." Y/n laughed but quickly brought her hand to her mouth and stopped. She frowned as they started talking, whispering. She fiddled with her dress. Stark had given it to her so she could wear it to the Accords signing, and it was the nicest thing she had ever owned, let alone worn. It was orange fabric with a white belt that sat at her waist. The skirt portion of the dress flowed loosely to her knees, whereas the top half was quite restricted. She was now down to one shoe, having through the other one at Barnes, and while theoretically she could go down and get it, they had been killing her feet, and she hated the idea of running in them again.

"Y/n!" The girl looked up quickly as Stark called her name.

"We're going on a trip to Queens!" Y/n jumped up and pumped her fists.

"Yeah!" Tony looked at her feet.

"I'm giving you new heels."

"Shit."

She turned her head to the door as she saw a boy walk into the small apartment. He was holding some computer thing and had his earbuds blasting so loud that she could hear the music softly. He didn't even notice the strangers in the room and just started talking.

"Hey May!" The women smiled.

"Hey! How was school today?" He dropped his backpack at a table and walked around into the kitchen area.

"It was okay. This crazy car parked outside." He finally looked over and stopped speaking. Y/n stifled a laugh as he gawked at Tony.

"Oh, Mr. Parker." The boy looked confused and vaguely terrified, which made it even harder for Y/n to stop herself from laughing.

"Um, what are you doing? Hey, I'm Peter." Tony smiled as he held up a cookie.

"Tony." May turned to Stark before looking back at Peter, who spoke again.

"What, what, what are you doing here?" Tony smiled.

"It's about time we met. You've been getting my email, right? Or more accurately, my assistant Miss L/n's emails?" Y/n waved lightly. Peter looked over to her and smiled.

"Yeah, yeah. Regarding the.." May interrupted him, which was lucky since Peter had zero clue what was happening.

"You didn't even tell me about the grant." Peter nodded slowly.

"The grant!" Y/n gestured towards Tony and Peter.

"The September Foundation. Remember when you applied?" Peter looked between Stark and Y/n, completely lost.

"Yeah, right." Tony smiled.

"Well, now we're in business!" May swiveled around on the couch to face Peter more.

"But you didn't tell me anything, what's up with that? You keeping secrets from me now?" Peter looked at her, trying to think of some sort of reason.

"I just know how much you love surprises, so I thought I would let you know... anyway, what did I apply for?" Y/n stood up quickly.

"That's what we're here to organize. You know, details and stuff." Peter stuttered.

"O..okay, yeah, de.. details. okay." Tony looked at May.

"It's so hard for me to believe that she's someone's aunt." May smiled.

"Yeah, well, we come in all shapes and sizes, you know?" He held up some food.

"This walnut date loaf is exceptional." Peter looked at him.

"Let me just stop you there. Is this grant got money involved or Whatever? No?" Tony nodded and Y/n grinned.

"Yeah, it's pretty well funded. By him." Tony nodded.

"By me. Can we have five minutes with him?" May nodded.

"Yeah, sure!"

Y/n closed the door behind them as Tony spat out the food May had given him.

"As walnut date loaves go, that wasn't bad. Whoa, what have we here? Retro tech huh?" Y/n smiled as she leaned against the door.

"So, from your time Stark?" Tony looked up and nodded.

"Wow, okay, I can believe I brought you along. This is payback for the heels, correct?" Y/n smiled and crossed her arms.

"As always."

"As always, that's right." Tony nodded more with a grin. Peter looked between them.

"I'm sorry, what is going on? Why are you looking at my latest dumpster dive?" Tony turned around.

"You're a dumpster diver?" Peter shook his head.

"Yeah, I guess, anyway look, um, I defiantly did not apply for your grant," Tony interrupted him.

"Ah ah! Me first! Quick question of the rhetorical variety, that's you, right? L/n," He motioned to Y/n, who turned her clipboard around to reveal a video screen under the paper, with a video playing of a man in a red and blue suit stopping a car thief and swinging away. Peter crossed his arms and took a step back.

"Um, no. What do you mean?" Tony just nodded.

"Yeah, look at you go." He pointed his arm back out at the clipboard, which had more footage playing of the man saving people. Y/n nodded with an impressed smile.

"Wow, nice catch. That must be at least 30,000 pounds, going at minimum, 40 miles an hour, if I'm correct. Nice skills, it wouldn't be easy." Peter shook his head again.

"Well, you're wrong, it's not me, I mean, that's all on youtube right? That's where you found that? Because you know that's all fake, it's done on a computer." Peter kept talking as Y/n walked into the center of the room. She looked around before seeing a broom. She gripped it tightly before sticking it into the air. She pushed open a door on the ceiling which made the suit from the video pop out. Tony walked over as well as Peter grabbed the suit.

"Oh, what have we here? So, you're the spiderling?" Y/n cut in.

"Crime spider, spider boy?" Peter looked at her.

"What? No, it's Spider-Man." Tony looked around the room.

"Not in that onesie you're not." Peter walked over to him.

"It's not a onesie. You know, I was actually having a really nice day today Mr. Stark. Didn't miss my train, this perfectly good DVD player was just sitting there, and, algebra test, nailed it." Y/n smiled and spoke under her breath.

"Omg, Mr. Stark? That's adorable." Tony looked at Peter.

"Who else knows, anybody?" Peter shook his head.

"Nobody." Tony looked at the suit.

"Not even you're unusually attractive aunt?" Peter looked grossed out, as did Y/n.

"No. No. No no no! If she knew, she would freak out! And when she freaks out I freak out." Y/n watched as Tony sat down at Peters desk. He held up a small vial.

"You know what I think is cool? This webbing. That tensile strength is off the charts, who manufactured that?" He threw the vial at Peter, who caught it without looking.

"I did." Tony looked back down at the suit in his hands.

"Climbing walls, how you doing that? Adhesive gloves?" Peter looked down.

"it's a long story, I was" Before he could finish Tony spoke again.

"Lordy, can you even see in these?!" Peter spoke up.

"Yes, I can. I can see in those okay? It's just, when whatever happened, happened, it's like my senses have been dialed to 11. There's way too much input, so they just kinda help me focus." Tony looked up at the kid.

"You're in dire need of an upgrade. Systemic, top to bottom, hundred-point restoration. That's why I'm here. Why are you doing this? I gotta know, what's your MO? What gets you outta that twin bed in the morning?" Peter sat down on the bed and fiddled with his hands.

"Because, because I've been me my whole life, and I've had these powers for six months, I read books, I build computers, and yeah, I would love to play football, but I couldn't then so I shouldn't now." Tony leaned back against the wall. Y/n spoke up.

"Sure, because you're different. And if you act like you are, they'll know that you are." Peter nodded.

"Exactly. But I can't tell anybody that I'm different, so I'm not. Look, when you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you." Y/n shook her head silently. This freaking kid. Everything he just said, she hated it. Mildly because it was true, but mainly because she went the other way. Hiding her powers for years, just letting the bad things happen.
