Part 18
Y/n sat on her bed and looked around her room. She now has a new addition to her cork board, the orange rose Pietro had given her. She had flattened it with some books from the library, and had to deflect Steve's questions about what she was reading. He seemed upset she didn't want to talk with him, so Y/n was surprised when she heard his knock on the door.
"Hey Y/n." Y/n hung onto her door frame, looking up at Steve.
"Hello Steven." She was still annoyed that he hadn't trusted her, and it was coming out in her voice. Well, that and everything else about her body language. He hung his head and rubbed the back of his neck.
"Look, I was thinking that we could do some training. Just us." Y/n frowned slightly.
"That's all you have to say? Okay then, let's go." She walked past and knocked his shoulder roughly, leaving him in a jog to catch up.
In the gym, after an extreme work out, Steve and Y/n were sitting on the bench and getting a drink. Steve looked at her.
"I have a question, about your powers." Y/n looked at him.
"Okay, shoot."
"How did you find out you teleport when you press your cheeks?" Y/n smiled a bit as she fiddled with her hands.
"Accidentally, but really, I don't have to, I just prefer it. It makes it easier to aim, easier to transfer. Doing it without pressing my cheeks is exhausting, and I was never good at it." Steve stood up and held out his hand.
"How about this then, let's make a goal. We'll train everyday until you can teleport without using your hands." Y/n raised an eyebrow with a smirk.
"What's in it for me Mr America?" Y/n watched as Steve's grin grew.
"I may or may not have a few copies of public service announcements I made for the city. And trust me, they're all quite embarrassing." Y/n nodded as she leant back against the wall.
"And I'm assuming I would get a copy of all these videos?" Steve nodded and Y/n shook his hand before using it to pull him into a hug. With her head on his shoulder, they both smiled.
"I'm sorry I didn't trust you. I should have, I was wrong." Y/n chuckled softly.
"Thanks. It means a lot."
~~~
Y/n and Steve trained for hours everyday, it was exhausting. They would both leave and immediately fall asleep. Pietro would knock on Y/n's door, but there was almost never an answer, and Wanda was starting to miss her sitcom watching partner.
She was working hard, and she was making progress. Soon, she was teleporting across the whole compound without a single finger being pressed on her face. As much as everyone wished they could spend a little more time with her, they noticed how happy she was. She never had too much time for dates with Pietro, so they would sit on the roof and look at the stars. And when she was holding hands with him as they laid down on a soft blanket, she was happy. It was pure joy.
~~~
Y/n wiped her face with a towel as she sat on the cold floor.
"Steve, we need to talk." He looked over and motioned for her to continue.
"Look Rogers, I think I can officially say I don't need to press my face anymore. I want to see these videos, now." Steve sighed.
"I was really hoping you would forget that. Like, really hoping." Y/n shook her head and pointed her arm out at him.
"No way, this was my motivation. I want these videos." Steve dropped his head and motioned for her to follow him.
They walked out of the gym and into Steve's room. He walked over to his desk and opened a draw. He took out a small box and took a key from under a photo frame. Y/n rolled her eyes.
"These must be worth a fortune if your hiding them this well." Steve furrowed his eyebrows and looked back down to the small box. He unlocked the box and dramatically pulled out a usb. He slowly handed it to Y/n, who was grinning wildly.
"Best day ever."
That night at dinner, Y/n mentioned how a hot lunch really puts a spring in her step. If looks could kill, Steve would be on trial for murder. Everyone else was confused, but Y/n was having the time of her life.
~~~
They all had nightmares, and comparatively, Y/n's weren't usually bad. They didn't come often, and they usually just resulted in a cold sweat and a bad attitude, but she told no one. They all had their worries, they didn't need hers as well.
But then it was bad.
She woke up with tears coving her eyes, but before she could gather herself, there was a flash and she was in another room. And another. And another. She started screaming, and had woken up the whole compound in less than five minutes.
It was room after room, no brake. Even though she was starting to get exhausted, she wasn't slowing. Tony stood in his lab, staring at the cameras as flashes appeared around the compound. He looked over to Steve and Bruce, who had both followed him.
"We need to get her into Hulk's cage. It's got power dampeners everywhere." Steve frowned.
"How are we going to do that? She can't control where she's going!" Bruce shrugged.
"Maybe if she's thinking about it, it might help her go there." Steve sighed and rubbed his head.
"I'll tell everyone to say Hulk Cage if they see her." Steve walked out and started the plan. Everyone was shouting as they saw her flashing into the room.
It was... odd... to see her like that. She was falling to the floor over and over, her hair was getting knotted and flying everywhere, and her screams had turned into hoarse squeaks. Her body was just falling limply, showing a flash of her tear stained face.
Bruce was staring at the button in front of him as Tony was staring at the cameras.
"Wait for my call, and activate the power dampeners. She'll only be there for a few seconds at most." The room was tense. Neither of them were breathing, the air was still.
"BRUCE NOW!" Bruce pressed the button as he let out a quick squeak.
Y/n hit the floor and let out another wheeze. She waited for it to happen again, but she was still. She flipped her hair over her head as she sat up. She looked around before laying back on the cold floor. Tony watched through the cameras as she laughed and hugged herself.
After a few hours, Tony made her leave. She was nervous, she had taken quite the beating that morning, and she didn't want it to happen again. She let out a sigh of relief as she stood on the normal ground, no powers going out of control.
~~~ time skip to a day later~~~
Y/n was sitting and twirling her drumsticks in her room when she heard Friday.
"Miss L/n, Mr. Stark has requested your presence in his lab." Y/n looked up to her ceiling even though she knew Friday wasn't actually there.
"Thanks Friday, I'll be there in a minute."
Y/n decided that Tony could wait, and deliberately took her time. She stopped at every photo, looking at all the different faces, thinking of their stories. When she finally walked in, Tony was frowning.
"For someone who can teleport, you're amazingly slow." Y/n grinned and brought her hand to her chest.
"You think I'm amazing? Thanks for the compliment!" Tony shook his head with a light hug smile. He looked back onto his work bench as he picked up something and chucked it at Y/n. She haphazardly caught it and held it in front of her. It was a necklace, silver links to hold a simple charm in the centre.
Two overlapping hearts.
Y/n cradled the thin silver charm in her hands. She looked up at Tony with her smile wide and her eyes watery.
"You remembered, you remembered the symbol from his grave." Tony shrugged.
"Wasn't much. I like to focus on the details." Y/n's smile only grew wider. She quickly pulled Stark into a hug. As she was leaving she leant against the door quickly.
"Thank you." Stark gave her a nod.
"Screw you."
...
Bruce walked into Tony's lab slowly.
"So, you give it to her?" Tony put his tools down and rubbed his forehead.
"Yeah Banner, I did. She liked it. I think she'll wear it." Bruce curled his lips inwards and nodded.
"Good. We're in the right here, right?" Tony shrugged.
"I have no idea anymore."
...
Y/n looked at the necklace in the mirror with a smile. It was perfect in every way. As she was admiring it she heard a knock at her door.
"Damn, busy day for Y/n" She muttered as she walked over, and smiled to see the boy on the other side.
"Hey Pietro." He grinned, leaning against the outer edge of the doorway.
"Hello Y/n. I was thinking, we should go on a date." Y/n raised an eyebrow with a smirk.
"You do realise we've been on dates before, right?" Pietro chuckled and looked at the floor gently.
"I know, but I was thinking we could do something, now."
"Now?"
"Now."
"I love that idea."

Yay! I love this chapter, but it took me ages to write.
A decent chunk of mystery, a little dash of romance, this one has it all.
