CHAPTER ONE

Chapter One
also known as;(pilot; part one)

While Delaney loved summer she hated summer in LA, the air was thick and heavy and the sun seemed to fry the earth leaving it dry and crisp. It was too hot to do anything in the day. Something Delaney had grown to despise, the last thing she wanted to do was stay in her room all summer break.

Which was why she was now sat outside the gas station with Fez, the pair sitting on a pair of matching plastic lawn chairs as they shared a tub of ice cream and blunt.

This had become a sought of summer ritual for the pair, she would sit with him all day going home to fetch the pair and Ashtray some food and then coming back to eat dinner with them.

Her mom was away in London for the summer on a business trip so she was on her own most of the time, which was why she spent so much time with the two boys.

Delaney was trying to feed the boy ice cream when had Rue arrived. Rue was Delaney's other best friend and while she hadn't seen the girl for most of the summer she had still spoken to her most days. She wrote her little letters with stupid doodles on that she had probably drawn when she was high which was quite ironic for who she was sending it too, especially under the circumstances. But even so, Rue appreciated them finding a strange joy in getting each one, knowing that even though she wasn't there she was still being thought about every day.

"Shit have I got heat stroke or is that you Rue Bennet?" Delaney called out, her voice seeming to boom throughout the small parking lot.

"It's me, baby!" Rue shouted back running over to the pair who had now lost complete interest in the ice cream tub which Delaney had quickly dropped to the ground.

"I've missed you!" Rue laughed pulling the brunette into a hug which she quickly accepted.

"Same," She squealed pulling away to look at her, pushing a few pieces of stray hair out of her face.

"Shit Rue, you looking better." Fez piped up, sitting up slightly in his chair.

"Thank you, Fez." She nodded, her arm still wrapped tightly around the brunettes body.

"Here sit," Delaney said handing her chair over to Rue before setting her skateboard down next to Fez to sit on.

"There's some new girl in town I think you are gonna be friends with," Fez stated up, Del knew who he was talking about she had seen her the other day. She had also heard that Kat had gone to summer school with her, whenever the pair had hung out she seemed to have come up in conversation.

"Who," Rue asked.

"Shit I don't know. She came in yesterday looking all sailor moon and shit. I'm thinking to myself, like, looks like somebody Del and Rue would get along with," Fez explained, lighting another blunt he had tucked behind his ear. Rue nodded along with the him, Delaney quickly taking note of her sudden interest in the conversation.

"Makes sense," The redhead mumbled, causing Rue to giggle softly. Delaney passed the tub of discarded ice cream back over to Fez so she could take the blunt off of him, an action he made sure to ignore.

"So how long you been back?" He asked paying little attention to the redhead as she tugged on the blunt that he still held between his fingertips.

"Five days," Rue nodded, though she was appreciative of the caring nature of Fezco she would be lying if she said she wasn't quietly waiting for the conversation to be over so could see Ashtray.

"And like how you feeling?" Fez asked looking over to her as Delaney finally snatched the blunt from his hand.

"I mean ever since I gave my soul over to the Lord and saviour Jesus Christ, I've been feeling like really good," Rue drawled out nodding slowly as she stared at the pair blankly. Fezco began nodding along with her, a small smile gracing his face.

"Word. That's what's up,"

"Boy, you're dumb." Delaney snorted, causing Fez to pull a face as he was met with a chorus of laughs from the two girls.

"I'm fucking with you Fez, shit it's a joke," Rue explained nudging his shoulder teasingly as realisation washed over his face.

"Shit, I mean, I don't judge," He laughed, holding his hands up.

"Yeah but low-key is Ashtray in the back?" Rue asked, becoming more serious as she did so.

"Are you serious?" Fezco asked a hint of disappointment prominent in his voice.

"What you think because I went to rehab I stayed clean?" Rue laughed dryly rubbing a hand over her face as she pushed herself out the chair.

"I mean think that's the point," Delaney asked, matter of factly. She couldn't say she was disappointed in Rue because she was no better, but she had hoped that after everything that had happened earlier that summer Rue would have at least tried to stay clean.

"Yes well the world's coming to an end and I haven't even graduated high school yet," Rue shouted, turning around and leaving the pair.

Delaney shook her head as she watched her walk into the small shop, glancing over to Fez who shared the same look as her.

"You gonna let her carry on with this shit?" Fez asked it was obvious the boy felt guilty, his eyes never leaving the store door.

"I don't really have a choice, I'd be a hypocrite if I tried to stop her," Delaney sighed rubbing her head slightly as she got up from her skateboard and sat back down in her chair.

Nate Jacobs and Chris Mckay had pulled up shortly after. Fez had told her earlier that day they were coming, though that didn't stop the look of disgust that crossed her features when the grey jeep pulled up.

Though Delaney didn't really have a reason to hate the two boys, she did. Especially Nate Jacobs. Who to her was the pinnacle of everything wrong with America and as well them being douchebag jocks, Delaney had also watched first-hand how Nate treated Maddy which only fuelled her hatred.

"Be cool," Fezco mumbled as he handed her his blunt getting up to go over to the to boys who were just getting out of the large jeep. The group stood talking for a few minutes, their conversation being just out of ear shot meant Delaney quickly lost any interest and instead started staying aimlessly the cars that drove passed.

"You coming tonight Delaney?" Nate asked as Fezco helped McKay load a barrel of alcohol into the back of the truck.

"Don't know, are you?"

"For sure," Nate replied flirtatiously, slightly biting down on his lip as he watched the redhead get up from her seat and stroll over to him.

"Gonna have to be a hard pass then isn't it Jacobs," She smiled sarcastically crossing her arms over her chest as she glared up at him.

"That's enough Del," Fezco, who had been watching wearily from behind, warned watching carefully how Nate's fists began to slightly clench as she carried on teasing him. He grabbed her hand pulling her behind him as she carried on glaring at the jock. Mckay quickly handed the cash over to Fez before getting back into the jeep, Nate soon following behind mumbling profanities as he went.

"You're a fucking idiot," Fezco mumbled shaking his head as they watched the car pull out of the parking lot. Delaney could only laugh at the situation though, being way to high to actually realise how stupid she had just been.
