Chapter 19
To be on the safe side, we gave the school strict instructions not to release the boys with anyone except me, Jack, Gabrielle or Ramone. Back in the States, school security is a lot stricter than here on the island.
I don't have any reason to think Ben or any of his family will show up here and take the boys, but, who knows? I'm not taking any chances.
Best case scenario, Ben thinks we are in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Not Saint John, USVI.
Jack has brought in extra security to the house. To be honest. I don't even notice them. They stay well hidden. They have installed more outdoor cameras and motion detectors in case someone hops his ten foot block fence.
"Bye Luke! Bye Cole!" Kissing them each on the head before they run off to see their friends. I let out a big sigh as I watch them play. Jack puts his arm around my waist. "I don't want them to grow up yet."
"I know you don't." He gives me a squeeze of support. "I have noticed a huge change in them since they came to the island. They really have grown up a lot since they got here."
"I know they have." Looking at Jack, he's right. "They have grown up a lot. I feel like their growth was somehow stunted or something living with Ben and his family. Like they were missing something."
"They were missing you." Jack says definitively and that left me sad.
"Well." I wipe my eyes before tears form. "They have me now." And I smile at him.
"Can I take you to breakfast?" Jack must hear my stomach grumbling.
"Absolutely!" We climb in the Expedition and we head toward the Westin.

Amelia seats us at a different table than usual. It is much more private.
"Thank you Amelia."
"Why are we sitting here?" We never sit here?
"I don't know? I guess they weren't expecting us? Maybe they promised our table to someone else?"
"Yeah? Probably." The waterfall is making nice background noise . I like this table better anyway.
"Sorry I fell asleep on you last night." I stick my lower lip out to let him know I'm disappointed in myself. "Were you able to get everything you needed to get done, done?" Jack puts his index finger on my protruding lip and rubs it.
"Yes. Done and sent back." Jack laced his fingers together and stretched his arms way over his head. "One step closer to retirement!"
"Are you sure that is what you want?"
A new waiter interrupts us. 'Good morning! I'm Emerson. I'll be your waiter." He fills our water glasses. "How are you today?" Emerson is very casual but confident. Nothing like I was when I started at the Blue Oyster. This is obviously not his first waiting job.
"We are great, thank you." Jack says as Emerson sets down a couple of menus.
"Can I start you off with something to drink?" Emerson asks, no pen to write anything down. He's very smooth.
"I would like a cup of coffee please and an ice water." I ask.
"I'll take the same. Please." Jack orders as well.
"I'll be right back for your breakfast order." Emerson leaves us alone. I open my napkin and put my silverware in the table, placing my napkin in my lap.
Jack stands up. "I'll be right back. Need to use the restroom." He leans forward and kisses me before heading out to the lobby.
Emerson comes back with our coffees. "Cream and Sugar?" He offers.
"Just cream." He sets down a little carafe of cream and a plate with a large dollop of fresh whipped cream and a couple of Pirouette cookies. What a cute display! I get busy making our coffees, topping them off with whipped cream.
"That looks good." Jack sits down. "Thanks for making mine."
"Anytime." I smile and take a sip of my coffee. I can feel I have a whipped cream mustasche that I quicly lick away.
"What would you like this morning?" Jack looks over the menu.
"Seriously?" I don't even bother to look at the menu. "I haven't had waffles in months."
Jack shuts his menu and puts it down and laughs. "I thought you might say that. It's kind of our thing."
I roll my eyes, but he is right. We have a thing. Waffles is our thing. I let out a great big smile. I love being here with Jack.
Emerson came over to check on us and Jack ordered the waffles with bacon and sausage and plenty of fruits.
"Nice job." I compliment.
"I aim to please." Jack sits back he looks a little ...nervous.
"Are you okay?" I hope Jack isn't getting sick or something. He was fine before he went to the restroom.
"Oh yeah." Jack coughs, clearing his throat. "I'm fine."
Soon Emerson and a helper bring our breakfast out and sit the plates in front of us and they run off, leaving me to just stare at my plate.
My waffles are all cut in a heart shape is the mango, they must have used a little hart shaped cookie cutter on the mango. But what really caught my attention was on the rim of the plate, written in mango syrup are the words "Please Marry Me." Next to the waffles, is a smaller plate covered in flowers with a haint-blue box in the middle. I look up at Jack.
Jack gets up from his chair, takes the haint-blue box and gets down on one knee beside me. He opens the box revealing a rather large sparkly diamond floating above a platinum band, "Please. Please marry me."
My mouth falls open, I look up at him. He looks so sweet on his knee.
The truth is, I have been debating his question in my head since he asked it. The pros and cons. All the mistakes from the first go-round and not how to make them again.
But, The cons don't out-weigh the pros with Jack. The mistakes were with Ben not with Jack. I could spend all day comparing how opposite Jack and Ben are, because that is what they are complete opposites. The boys love Jack and Jack loves the boys. And, even though it took me a while to believe it, I love Jack, very dearly.
"I know I have asked you several times. But I wanted to ask you officially. So what do you think? You and me?" Jack is filling in the silence while come up with the right words to say to him where he obviously spent a lot of time and effort planning this proposal.
"You came into my life at its lowest point. And with your help, you watched me come back to life." I reach out and touch his scruff, but it's not there. He has shaven and I didn't even notice until now. "You have stuck with me through crazy ex-husbands, controlling producers, exploding sea urchins, a pregnancy with a baby that isn't yours, allowing two rambunctious boys move into your house only for you to love them an help take care of them. Am I forgetting anything?"
Jack shakes his head no, I'm not forgetting anything. "What is the phrase? Distance makes the heart grow fonder? Or something like that? Well it's true. I missed you so much while I was gone. I started thinking I was the one who made the mistake." I get up and get down on one knee with him. "I did make a mistake and I'm not going to make it again." I look into Jacks eyes. "Yes, I will marry you."
Jack face went from sullen to elated in less than a second. "Really? You want to get married?" He stands and helps me to my feet. Hugging me.
"I love you, I don't want another day to pass where we aren't together as one."
Jack holds me tight and kisses me. He rolls his chin away so our foreheads are touching, using his hand behind my head to hold us together. "You just made me so happy, Isa. Can we see if this fits?"
Jack takes the ring out of the haint-blue box and slides it onto my left hand. Perfect.
"It is so pretty." I look at it. My finger sparkles. "It's quite the attention getter."
"It looks beautiful on you." Jack hugs me again, setting the box down on the table. "Thank you for saying yes."
"Please don't change. Always be in love with me." Please don't ever change.
"I'll always be in love with you." He gives me another kiss.
"When should we tell the boys?" I want them involved, I don't ever want them to feel left out.
"I think they are excited, They helped pick out the ring."
"What? They did?" Looking down at my new ring. I've been ambushed by the men in my life, at least they have great taste.
"Are you hungry?" Jack quickly changes the subject. He must have heard my stomach growling.
"Famished."
"Let's eat then. Fiancée" Jack says with an emphasis on Fiancée.
"I love all the hearts. Fiancé." I answer emphasizing Fiancé.
