CHAPTER THIRTEEN
INT. MCDOWELL'S LIVING ROOM – NEXT DAY
Janet and Adam stand before their uniformed sons. Janet is on the verge of tears as she takes them in. She readjusts their vests and straightens their badges.
JANET
My little boys are now working men. You're growing up so fast.
She sobs, takes out a tissue and walks away.
ADAM
She's been doing that all day. You've really made us proud. And with hard work, comes reward. Follow me.
EXT. GARAGE – CONTINUOUS
Adam presses a button on the garage remote. The garage door opens. Their car sits inside with a brand new window. The boys are stunned.
CRAIG
I thought you wanted us to pay for it.
ADAM
Your mom made me get it fixed because she felt sorry for you. But since you did manage to find jobs, I guess you've earned it.
DEREK
So does that mean we can quit?
ADAM
Not unless you know how to drive on an empty tank. It is time to learn the true meaning of responsibility, boys. Enjoy.
Adam tosses the keys in the air and walks away. All three brothers catch the keys. They look at each other. Craig tries to chuckle it off.
CRAIG
We made a deal, guys. School, then athletics, then girls.
DEREK
That was before we got jobs. We are officially mature young men. Being mature young men means no more kiddie dumb dumb rules.
Derek tugs the keys.
LUKE
(calmly) Let's just talk about this. While you two hand me the keys.
The arguing escalates and a basketball is smacked above their heads. They watch in terror as it sails over to the car and bounces off the garage wall. The three of them sigh with relief. There's a crash and a car alarm goes off. They slowly turn around to face the driveway. Their parents' headlight is smashed to pieces.
CRAIG
Run!
They do so.
ADAM (V.O)
BOYS!
FADE OUT.
