Scene 7

The very next morning, Sasuke awakens from his sleep and immediately sees the painting he's fallen in love with. He smiles upon seeing it and recalls the dream he had the night before. It was about the little colorful girl again, but this time, the girl grew into a woman; a beautiful woman with a glowing body, and she asked him a simple question, one that invited him to follow her but he can't recall exactly what she had said. She never had a face so it made Sasuke question how on earth she could talk - but then again it was a dream.

His smile falls as he tries his hardest to put a face to the woman in his dream. He tries putting his girlfriend's face to the body, but it just isn't right. He notices the woman in the painting doesn't have a face either, and he tries adding a face to the imagined girl too, but his imagination is so dull that he can't come up with the perfect face. All he can think of is his mother's face and his girlfriend's face.

Sasuke sits up in his bed, his back popping when he stretches. The first thing he does is take his medication that'll stabilize his mood and tempers and another that eases his anxiety. After his pills, he leaves his room and trots to the kitchen.

"Good morning mom," he says upon seeing his adoptive mother. She smiles and greets him back.

"Good morning Sasuke."

She is currently washing the dishes as he scavenges the cabinets and the refrigerator for food. He settles for cereal and leans on the counter as he eats it.

"You know Sasuke, it's three in the afternoon," Kushina states, but the words sound like the beginning of a lecture to him.

"Yeah?" He sasses back, raising an eyebrow at her.

"I don't want you sleeping all day. I think you need to do something with your life," she begins. He rolls his eyes, already knowing what comes next.

Here we go again, He mentally groans.

"I feel like you need a hobby, and I know you haven't even gone near the library yet so what better place to look up hobbies than the library. If you want to go fishing, look up a book about fishing. If you like to read about war look up a history book," she says. "I know you just bought that art piece to hang in your room, so why don't you check out a book about art or about how to sketch or something!"

Kushina huffs, noticing while she was talking, she was scrubbing the pan harder and harder. She drops the sponge and the pan into the sink and turns to Sasuke. He looks up from his bowl of cereal and they stare each other down while he still chews on the last bits.

"You're way too smart to be allowing your brain to waste away like this Sasuke," she says softly. "And I worry about you sometimes."

He finally breaks eye contact with her and looks down at his bowl full of milk.

"I'm sorry I worry you so much mom," he says as he places his bowl down on the counter. "I promise to go to the library today."

Kushina smiles and embraces her son. "Thank you, honey."

He gives her a tight squeeze before pulling away. She has that dazzling smile on her face again.

"You know," she starts, poking at his tummy. "You can also work out with your brother. Spend some quality time together."

"Are you calling me fat?" He feigns offense as he gasps. Kushina laughs as she returns to the sink.

"What I'm saying is that Sakura must miss those abs you had in college."

He pouts, crossing his arms over his chest.

"How rude!"

...

Sasuke rides a bike to the library instead of using his car in an attempt to exercise. Since Kushina pointed out his weight gain, he became concerned about his looks. He knows that he's not overweight or obese, but he also knows he doesn't have that sexy lean six-pack anymore. What if Sakura notices his sudden weight, but hasn't said anything yet? What if he's too fat for her? What if she doesn't find him attractive anymore and is cheating on him with someone that has a bigger and better body?

Sasuke imagines Sakura wrapped around another man, kissing him and worshipping his body. He worries that these thoughts might actually be true and seeks for validation. Who else to give him the love he deserves besides his own girlfriend?

As he approaches the library, he stops his bike near the entrance and takes out his phone. He checks the time and then looks for Sakura's number in his contacts.

She can't be cheating on me. She loves me, right?

He hits the call button, and it rings in his ear. She answers straightaway.

"Hello? Sasuke?"

He hesitates before greeting her. "Hey, babe."

She hears the gloom in his voice and knows that something is wrong. "What's wrong honey?"

He instantly confesses, desperate for her affection and approval. "Mom pointed out that I'm getting fat and I'm worried that you might leave me for another guy because I don't have much of an athletic body anymore."

"Oh, honey," she sighs sadly.

"You're not cheating on me, right?"

"Sasuke, where is all this mistrust coming from? I would never cheat on you," Sakura says. "I love you so much."

"I... I love you too," he mumbles, the harsh, burning feeling in his chest starts to die down.

"Now I have to go to work, but I'll see you later, okay?" She says before hanging up. He doesn't get to say goodbye, and he finally realizes that she hadn't denied nor confirmed his weight gain. It is true that he's gained a few pounds, but she hadn't told him he still looks handsome nor told him he still looks lean; she just said, "Oh, honey" like it was some normal thing like scrapping his knee or getting a boo-boo.

"I'm fat," he says, pinching at his stomach. He chains up his bike and enters the library. He sulks as he looks around for books to read. "Maybe I should check out a fitness book so I can lose some weight," he mumbles bitterly as he takes a random book off the shelf.

Sasuke looks at the cover and sees it's a cheesy romance novel. He gives the book a confused look and puts it back on the shelf.

"What section am I even in?" He mutters to himself, as he looks around. He realizes that he's been moping and wandering around the library, hardly paying attention to his surroundings.

"You're in the Young Adult Romance section," says a womanly voice. Sasuke turns around and sees a strangely familiar face. The woman looks surprised to see him as well. She tilts her head, a small smile gracing her face. "Sasuke?"

"[Name], right?" He responds. He sees the nametag on her shirt and confirms the name. "You work here?"

He peers at her face. There is something about it that just looks absolutely perfect. He hadn't really studied her face before, so now that he can get a good look at it, he's at a lost for words. Like her face is meant to be on a painting or in a beautiful golden frame. Her face rivaled those of celebrities who had to cake on makeup to be this naturally beautiful and he thinks that one of the most outstanding artists should capture her allure in a piece of artwork.

It hits him then and there as the thought crosses his mind. Her face would look perfect on the woman in the painting and on the woman in his dreams.

"Yeah I work here," she confirms with a nod. He just studies her face, looking into her beautiful shining eyes, to her perfect nose, and those enticing lips that seem to invite Sasuke for a kiss. Before he gets too stuck in his trance, [Name] says, "I'm guessing you don't want to be in this section, right?"

He snaps from his daze and nods. "Uh, yeah. I got lost."

She just smiles, gesturing for him to follow her. "Well tell me what you're looking for and I'll show you a great book for it."

When she begins to walk out of the Young Adult Section, he swears the sun pokes out for just a second to make her body radiate those beautiful colors she keeps locked inside of her. He's in complete awe as her skin seems to glow underneath the sunlight. This only lasts a couple of seconds before the sun dips behind a cloud, and all those colors he had seen disappear.

[Name] doesn't hear any footsteps behind her and turns around to look at Sasuke. She sees that he looks totally shook, not like he's seen a ghost, but like he's seen God Himself descend from the heavens. She can only give him her sweetest smile.

"Aren't you coming?"

That was it. Those were the words he heard in his dream: "Aren't you coming?"

That was the invitation she gave him to follow. They are just three simple words but they meant a lot to Sasuke. He remembers the lady giggling in the dream, coaxing him to trail behind her.

"Aren't you coming? Follow the trail of colors!"

The girl, no, the woman he sees in his dreams and the one in the painting is right in front of him and she'll paint his black and white world with an array of colors.

"Yeah, I'm coming," he says with a smile. He chuckles to himself.

He had found her.

The woman in color.
