Chapter Five

Flashback•

I sat close to the fountain at the garden area, staring into nothingness. The sky had just one star watching the night, watching me. Father's wedding reception was still on, they were all laughing and dancing and having fun inside. The scenery was beautiful, I hated to admit. There was so much flowers and honestly, I liked being surrounded by them. They were like a comfort to me and maybe because mother also loved flowers and taught me to love them.

I was dressed in a tux and today had to be one of the worst days of my life, I watched him promise to love her and be there for her.

Her.

That fucking Jezebel.

I tucked my hair behind my ear as I took out my tie and threw it into the fountain with an angry sigh.

"You shouldn't do that." A voice said and I turned to see a guy who seemed to be in his twenties walking towards me. He was dressed in a black suit, was tall and had blonde hair.

"Oh...I didn't think....anyone was out here."

"Regardless." He chuckled. "Can I seat?"

I wanted to say no.

"Sure."

He gave a small nod and sat beside me with a sigh, looking out to the night sky.

"It is beautiful tonight."

"I guess." I gulped.

"Why aren't you inside? Isn't it your father's wedding?" He inquired.

"Well, I am not exactly feeling like it, and who are you here for?"

"Oh, Clarissa is my aunt."

"Hmm," I faked a smile. "Interesting."

He laughed. "I take it you do not like her?"

"You get an A."

"Oh thank God! I am so bad at school." He sighed in relief and I laughed. He just stared at me, smiling softly.

I noticed him looking and stopped laughing. He had such a pretty face and the way he looked at me made me feel a bit weird. Almost like this man was checking me out.

"What's your name?"

"Elvis. What's yours?" I looked at him.

"Dex." He answered. "Nice to meet you, Elvis." He winked.

"Yeah, likewise." I said and looked back at the fountain.

"You are beautiful, Elvis."

I chuckled. "Yeah, I know. I mean...thanks. Sorry, that was not what I meant."

Dex chuckled and moved closer, our shoulders touching. He took out a cigarette from his pocket and placed it in between his lips. Dex took out a lighter and lit the cigarette.

"Have you ever been touched by a man, Elvis?" He questioned.

I chuckled nervously. "I'm a child, Dex, I'm fifteen."

Dex shrugged as he blew out some smoke. "So what? I lost my virginity at fourteen."

"Good for you, I guess."

I didn't understand why I needed to know that.

"And you know what? Kids like you need men to teach you everything about sex and what parts of your body you would want to be touched." He said and looked at me.

I felt uncomfortable, but just smiled because I didn't know what else to say.

"You don't agree?" Dex questioned.

I shrugged. "I don't think children need grownups exploring on their body."

"But how would you know what you love if you are inexperienced, hmm?" He asked, so close to me.

My breath hitched, my body tensed at the way he spoke and looked at me, like a predator who had seen his prey. But I didn't let him see that I was scared and wanted to just get out. Maybe it would make the situation worse for me, so I needed to be careful.

"Well," I shrugged. "I should head back in, my father would probably be looking for me." I said, and as I was about to stand, he held my hand and placed it on his crotch area.

I swiftly turned to look at him, my heart dropping. He looked so in lust, and I was touching a man's hard on.

Dex looked up at me lustfully. "I am so hard, Elvis, and you made me hard with that pretty face of yours."

I gulped. "Um, I....I need to go." I said and tried to pull my hand away from his grip, but he didn't let go and made me grab him more.

Now, I was scared as hell and disgusted with myself.

"The least you could help me do is make me cum, Elvis, come on. You could suck me off or jerk me off." He said as he moved closer to me. "I will teach you."

"Let me go, Dex."

"I know you want to," He said while I looked at him, my other hand searching around for something to grab. "I see how you look at me, Elvis. And if you didn't want me, you wouldn't have asked me to sit here with you and laugh at my joke like the fucking slut you are."

I found a rock. "I was being fucking polite, you fucking prick!"  I said as I lifted my arm and hit him hard across the face. He quickly let go off my arm as he grunted in pain and held his head.

"Fucking cunt!!" He cursed.

I quickly got up, breathing heavily. "Fuck you!" I said and quickly ran out of the garden area.  I kept checking to see if he was after me and when I checked again, I bumped into someone and I shrieked in fear and turned.

It was Alex.

"Hey ! Where have you been? I have been looking all over for you?" Alex asked and I just looked at her, relieved to see her.

"Elvis, are you okay? You're crying." She said, her voice filled with concern.

It was then I realised I had actually been crying, my lips quivered in fear and sadness and the waterworks came.

Alex quickly pulled me into a hug and I held her tight. "Elvis, you're shaking, what's wrong?" She asked, worried.

I said nothing and then I felt her tense up. I slowly pulled away to see her looking behind me. I turned and there stood Dex with a bleeding head and a blood stained shirt.

Alex looked at me and then at him and it was like she instantly understood. Her face was filled with anger as she stared at the man.

"Elvis, Alex." We heard Giselle call as she walked over to us. She was wearing a black long dress and had a scarf around her. "I have been looking for..." she trailed off once she saw us and the man before us.

"Oh my God, what happened?" She asked, curious and shocked.

Dex chuckled. "Uh, I just fell hard at the garden area."

"Oh my God, are you okay?" She asked, worriedly. Dex nodded.  "It's all good." He responded.

"I should get you something for that." She said and turned to us. "You both should get inside." She said as she held my arm. "And..." Giselle trailed off once she felt me tense up. It was then she saw my teary eyes and how Alex held my hand tight. She looked back at us and at me and it was as if she instantly knew.

Giselle gulped and turned to Dex. "Let me treat that for you, hmm?" She smiled.

"I'm fine, there's no need to-"

"That's nonsense, sir." Giselle chuckled. "I am the house's caretaker and I handle things like this. Alex, Elvis, go inside dears and enjoy the party." She said and turned to us.

"But Giselle...."

"Alex," Giselle cut her off. "Go inside with Elvis, that man is injured and we can't have a man with so much blood on him at a wedding, what would it say about us?" She said with a smile. "Go now, everything will be alright."

There was something about Giselle's tone...

Alex gave her a nod. "Come on, Elvis." She said and pulled me along with her.

Dex wasn't seen or heard of until three days later.  I was in the living room with Giselle and Joshua. Joshua was helping his mother set the table for dinner while I rested against the wall, watching them as we had all been talking. The news on the TV caught my attention as it showed Dex. He had been found in a dumpster in an alley, brutally beaten with broken ribs.

As it was reported, I moved closer to listen. I turned to look at Giselle and Joshua.

"Poor guy." Joshua said as he set the plates with a small smile.

I looked from him to Giselle who smiled at me. "I wonder how he ended up there."

"Giselle...."

"I told you, sweetie. Everything will be alright. Now, put on a smile on that pretty face of yours. He had many broken bones." She smirked.

I smiled.

Present time

"l honestly do not understand how your father doesn't see that your step mother is a gold digging bitch, it's been two and a half years." Alex said and took a bite from her apple.

It was lunch time and we were at the cafeteria, seated across each other.

"She is a chameleon and she's good at acting, she literally is an A list villain." I said and stabbed the apple in front of me.

Alex looked at it and back at me. "It's not the Apple's fault, and besides anyone can see she's a bitch, but I guess that love is blind thing we hear is very real."

I sighed and dropped the fork. "Anyways, enough about these people. What are you doing tonight? Do you wanna hang out? Let's watch something and just kiki or whatever." I shrugged.  "You are my only friend and I just want us to-" I stopped talking once I noticed she wasn't even listening and her eyes were somewhere else. I frowned and traced her eyes, trying to know what she was staring at. I looked behind me and realised it wasn't a what but a who and I couldn't help but smile.

Finn.

"You know, you should try talking to him someday."

"What?" She blinked back to our universe.

"In our world people talk with others, you know? They don't just stare anymore." I furrowed my brows at her. She turned her gaze back to me. "They call it creepy these days."

Alex snorted. "And I am supposed to take conversation advice from you?" She cocked her head. "The one who only has me as a friend? Gurl, be for real."

"First of all, fuck you." I said and she blew me a kiss. "Secondly, go talk to him, say hi at least. You like him, he might like you back, and you guys have the same class most times."

"Are you kidding? Do I look like someone Finn would consider going out with?"

"No." I answered. "You're all goth and evil and he's bubbly and fun, which is why I think you both would make a cute couple and besides opposites attract or matches or whatever people say."

"I mean, look at him." She sighed. "He is so hot, I mean so am I but men scare me, so I won't." She grimaced.

"Listen, Finn is hot, and that is one thing you both have in common."

"Oh thank you." She beamed.

"And he's smart, you're smart. He is popular and you have made a name for yourself in this school too."

"No, I haven't."

"Yes, you have."

"No, I haven't."

"Alex, everybody knows you. You beat the kids here."

"Only when they deserve it." She frowned.

"Exactly. And so, everybody knows you."

"Well, whatever." She shrugged.

Finn is indeed hot, and I mean one of the hottest boys in this school. He is athletic, he is also black, tall and loves studying. He plays the piano quite well and is a fun guy who tweets about Nickelodeon and Disney shows.

Everybody knows Finn wants to go to UCLA, it's his dream and with his grades, I am certain he would make it. My dear best friend is literally in love with this man but never says anything and its weird because she always says her mind and gets what she wants, but now that it's a man called Finn Carter, she lost her voice and wouldn't even let me help her love life.

"Just look at him, so cute." She said softly, while staring at him and let out a soft sigh.

I frowned at her. "Okay, that's it." I said and attempted to stand up but she grabbed my hand quickly.

"What are you trying to do?" She asked confused.

"It's been forever, Alex. For- ever!"

"So?"

"Make the first move." I insisted.

"And what if he rejects me? Elvis, I would rather die a thousand deaths than tell Adam's gender that I like him only to be embarrassed later. God forbid." She grimaced in disgust. "Things aren't like the old days when we would just write in a paper, do you like me? Mark here for yes and here for no."

"Didn't you do that with Ahmed in elementary? Except you didn't have a no, it was just yes and yes."

Alex nodded. "Yeah, and he was scared of me."

"You put three spiders in his backpack, Alex." I stated.

"I thought he liked spiders then! I didn't know he meant spider man! You can't blame a girl."

"C for efforts." I said and sat down. "Well, just ask him."

"No. He should feel my energy and come ask me."

"Oh no honey, If that's the case then you're gonna grow old alone with no kids, let's not even talk about grandkids and then you'll die alone in your farm house and no one's even gonna know until a week later when the smell of your corpse starts killing animals."

"What goes on in that head of yours?" Alex asked with an expression that shouted 'what the fuck'?

"Go talk to him." I persisted.

"I really don't think I like you right now."

"Oh shut up, you do."

"No, seriously, I don't." She shook her head.

"Well, okay then. I'll be back in five." I quickly stood up and began heading towards Finn's table ignoring Alex's whisper yells that begged for me to come back or she would cut off my penis.

"Hey, Finn." I smiled once I got to his table. He had a  textbook beside his tray of food, a pen in between one of the pages, his cellphone on it as well, he seemed to be having trouble with something.

"Oh hey," Finn smiled at me. "What's up?"

"Having trouble?" I asked and picked up the textbook, looking at the front page to know which one.

Chemistry

"Yeeeah, but its nothing." He chuckled. "I'll figure it out."

"Are you sure about that?" I cocked my brow at him.

"Maybe not today...or tomorrow." Finn sighed. "I hate chemistry so much."

I laughed. "I wouldn't have guessed. Oh wait, you almost set the school on fire once."

"Oh my God, don't remind me of that." He bowed his heading embarrassment. "They started calling me a fire bender for months."

I laughed. "Deserved, Zuko. Anyways, because I am feeling nice today, maybe I can help you with this. Not me though cause I also don't like chemistry."

"You have only ever gotten an A."

I blinked. "The point is, Ozai, I cannot help cause I am busy tutoring some other kids. But you know who isn't bad at chemistry and could possibly help you not hate chemistry?"

"God?"

"Close. Alex." I pointed at her, but she quickly pretended to be on her phone.

Or maybe she was since my phone started vibrating in my pocket.

"Really?"

I nodded. "Mmhmm. Alex is a genius and has never failed chemistry once."

"Alex doesn't look like someone that would wanna tutor some other guy." He chuckled, unsure.

"And would you rather judge her from afar or actually get to know if she really is a serpent or a nice girl."

"I know she's a nice girl." He said and my brows cocked at that, making me smile. "But also a serpent."

"True. I'll text you her number."

"Um, awesome. Thanks, Elvis." Finn grinned.

"You are welcome. Now enjoy your meal." I said and walked back to our table. Alex glared at me as I sat with a satisfactory smile.

"What. Did. You. Do?" She asked, gritting her teeth.

I beamed. "Magic."

"I hate you."

"You love me."

"What did you two talk about?"

"Chemistry and you."

"Me?"

I nodded.

"What about me? Tell me!"

I shook my head. "No."

I chuckled and just then I saw Jesse walking into the cafeteria in a blue jean that went up to his waist and a black turtle neck, I grinned and waved at him.

"Jesse!" I called out making him look my way. He smiled and walked towards our table with his tray.

"I finally get to meet him." Alex beamed.

"Hello," he smiled and sat next to Alex. He had make-up on, it was perfectly done on his face. The contour lines and the brows and....don't ask me how I knew what the contour was, everybody does right?

"Hi!" I smiled at him.

"Damn, gurl. You look good." Alex said.

"I always do, I didn't stay in the closet for a long time to not be a butterfly when I come out." He said and I snickered.

"I'm Alex, nice to meet you Jesse."

"So you know, I love you here." Jesse told her. "You are stunning and bad, a hot combo."

"Oh my, thank you, you flatter me." Alex beed.

Jesse gasped once he saw Alex's skull necklace. "I wanted to get one of that."

"Stunning, isn't it?"

"It really is." Jesse beamed.

"Aw, look at you too, acting like best friends already." I said with a smile and clapped my hands once. "It's not gonna work out, sorry."

They both laughed.

"So, you take my advice?" Jesse asked while smiling.

"Mmhmm," I nodded. "I am done taking their shit, I'm done with just saying nothing and being worried about everything. You were right, I need to switch princesses."

"Oh, is my baby finally getting out of her cocoon?" Alex tilted her head to the side.

"It's about time, isn't it?"

"That's my baby," Alex grinned. "And you've got my support."

"And mine too." Jesse smiled.

"I love how this is gonna be your revenge era." Alex beamed.

"Thanks, guys."

♔ ♔ ♔

I walked into the house with a little sigh and just at that moment, my phone began to ring with the song, echoing in the living room.

Alex.

"He-"

"ELVIS!" She shouted, startling me and making me frown.

"Hello to you too."

"YOU TOLD FINN I WAS GOOD AT CHEMISTRY?!!"

"Y-Yeah. I mean you are, aren't you?"

"YES, BUT HE TEXTED ME!"

I pulled the phone away from my ear as she screamed. "Lydia Martin, c-can you stop screaming, I am gonna be deaf."

"Sorry, I'm hyper." She said.

"So what's the problem? Wait, how'd you...?"

"The son of a bitch asked me out." She giggled.

"Baby, study date? Congratulations!"

"Listen, I do not know what your ass did but I love you."

"I told you, you did." I smiled.

"It was crazy picking up the phone and just hearing his voice. He seemed nervous and I was trying to sound as calm as possible. Do you think this even is a good idea? Me giving a man power over me? Like look how he makes me feel and makes me scream, that is fucking disgusting. I am feeling pathetic."

"And that is okay. You are not exactly a goody two shoes or a pick me, you're opinionated and maybe when you go on this date he might say something dumb that would make you lose all likeness for him, but I hope he doesn't, because you both should get married." I chuckled. "Where are you both meeting?"

"He said we should meet up tonight at the diner!" I could tell she was practically grinning now, her face could tear off.

"That's amazing, J-Just don't wear too much black. Try red, Its also the devil's color." I advised

She groaned. "Fine, I gotta go now. God, I'm so nervous."

"Alright," I replied as I walked into my room. "Love you."

"And I thought I was gonna be the one telling you what to wear to dates. I love you."

"I'm gonna be single for the rest of my sad life, love." I said as I shut my door. "You're probably doing that in a parallel universe."

"Elvis, stop being depressing. You'll find him soon enough."

I huffed. "Yeah, soon enough." I repeated. "Bye now, you don't wanna be late." I threw my backpack on the ground.

"Love you!"

"Love you too." I said as I laid on my bed. "No sex on your first date."

She chucked. "Fuck off"

I chuckled before hanging up, I sighed and laid on my bed. I took out my diary from under my bed, opened it and wrote.

Dear diary,

Today I feel different. I feel two different things. First, I feel like a winner, like I'm on top of the world. Why? Because I finally refuse to live under someone's shadow. I'm not gonna sit and watch my evil step mom and her kids ruin my life anymore. I'm gonna make dad see what they're made of. I've been playing these cards wrongly, that's why I've been losing and now? I understand it. I asked mom for help and she sent Jesse to me. She had been listening and Jesse made me understand that a knight can't be a knight if he doesn't have a sword.
I drove Davian's car to school today, It was fun driving it and when I spoke to him without a little bit of fear, I realized that you only give people more power over you when you act scared. I'm not really scared of Davian, I'm just scared of what he'd do to my face but now.... I don't care anymore.

Another good news, I got Alex a date with the man of her dreams. Finn. You know Finn, told you about him. I'm happy for her anyways, everyone gets to find love and be with who they want, well except me.

Yeah, sometimes being gay sucks a lot. Scared of what the world might think of you, how they might change when they realize that you like men. People can be mean and that's what I'm trying to avoid, I don't even think love is for me. Do gay people get happy endings? Only famous people do, I guess. Not people like me who could get thrown out by the father that ain't himself anymore.  I can already see the disappointment in his face.

He'd probably throw me out, disown me and Clarissa will finally make him broke and leave him and then he'll die of loneliness. I just predicted my dad's death. I'm crazy, It's not gonna happen that way cause I'm never coming out. I've thought about being happy, what happiness would feel like. I have never felt love before and I'm starting to think it's not for me.  People like me never get happy. I'm scared. I don't wanna be alone forever, I want someone to make me happy and for him to continuously tell me how much he loves me and is happy that he has me but that day may never come. Never. That's what scares me.

I will always feel like a disappointment and a curse. How do I even know a guy genuinely like me when everyone sees me as some object?

"We need to talk," that voice interrupted my thoughts and made me want to throw a book at whom it belonged to, Clarissa .

I sighed.

Every time I'm writing and having my time with my diary she shows up. She fucking shows up.

I forcefully smiled and shut my diary, looking up at her. She was putting on a yellow dress with white pearls. "Yes, stepmother?"

"What are you up to?"

"Excuse me?" I furrowed my brows.

"I don't know what sick game you're playing but there's only going to be one winner and that's me."

I beamed. "I have no idea what you're talking about, I'm only trying to be a good stepson."

"Bullshit!" She exclaimed. "I've known you for a while now and you can't change that easily plus Davian told me about school?"

"Oh, that he tried to beat me up? I only borrowed his car." I shrugged.

"Know your place." Clarissa said firmly.

I sighed and stood up.

"Stepmother," I called and smiled. "I'll tell you a story," I said and she frowned confused. "Once upon a time, two captains were placed on a ship. They were friends and everything was fine- until a storm came and every passenger on that ship was scared for their lives." I paused "The first captain wanted to take hold and thought to swing right to avoid the wave which was right there but the second captain thought to go right for it and keep steady. They argued for long." I didn't break eye contact.

"The passengers were scared and seeing how close they were to death, captain number two still wasn't gonna stop and so captain one had no other choice but to push him into the water and did what his instincts told him, saving everyone."

"What does that have to do with-"

"It means, two captains can't control a ship and one has to go." I stated. "And the only way to get rid of the other is to throw them into the sea. I hope you understand what I mean." I smiled.

"You want to challenge me, Elvis?" Clarissa smirked.

I smiled. "Me? I could never do that to you."

Clarissa huffed. "You do not want to take this road with me."

"Mmhmm." I nodded. "Of course not."

Clarissa glared. . "Give me the keys." She put out her hand out.

I nodded and tucked my hand into my back pocket taking out the car keys, I slowly started placing it in her hand. She was about to take it when I pulled my hand back. "You know what, step mother ? On second thought, I think I'll keep it." I shrugged. "It's my brothers', right?"

"Elvis, I will-"

"Hit me?" I chuckled. "Go ahead, do it."

Clarissa just looked at me in disbelief. "You think you're smarter, right?" She chuckled.  "You do not know what you are getting into, Elvis. You'll be sorry."

I giggled. "Like I said, I have no idea what you are on about."

Clarissa smirked. "Let the game begin then." She said and walked out of my room.

I smirked.

"Let the game begin, stepmother."

🔮 Flashback. 🔮

Elvis was seated on the floor in the library, a book titled "The Bees" was resting beside him. He was sad and seemed to be lost in his thoughts, his eyes wet from crying. The door to the library opened and  someone walked over to him.

"I knew you'd be here."  The voice said.

"Go away, Joshua."

Joshua sat across him and shook his head. "Sorry, I can't."

"How did you find me?"

"This is our magic planet, it only makes sense that Lord Reeves would come here when sad."

"Is my mother okay?" Elvis asks him.

Joshua says nothing at first before muttering "I don't know."

"They won't let me in her room with the doctor."  Elvis said.  "They still think I'm a little boy. I'm smart and taller than I was three months ago, I'm ten. Ten!"

"You're not an adult, stupid."

"Don't call me stupid, stupid." Elvis retorted.

Joshua looks at the sad boy and at the book beside him. "What's that book about? The bees."

Elvis looks at the book. "I don't know. I haven't read this one yet."

Joshua crawled over to where Elvis was and sat beside him, picking up the book and looking at the back to read the summary. "Looks like romance. Your type."

"I don't care."

"Do you want me to read it to you?"

"No." Elvis shook his head.

Joshua was helpless, he didn't know what to do to help his new friend. He looked around and an idea came to him. He instantly gasped and caught Elvis's attention.

"They're here." Joshua got up.

"Who's here?" Elvis was confused.

"Maleficent! The evil queen. Can't you hear her?"

"What?"

"Shh. I can hear her animals. Wolves with three heads, they're coming. Get up!" Joshua stands.

"Joshua, I'm not in the mood for our stupid play right now."

"She's turning the ground to lava!!" Joshua screams and pulls Elvis up. "What do we do, Lord Reeves? My sword isn't here. I can't kill the wolves!"

Elvis says nothing.

"Come on. Would you rather I die here?"

Elvis gulps, wondering if to join the mind play or not, but then it would be a good distraction for him. "I know where your sword is."

"You do?" Joshua grins.

Elvis nods. "Yes, but we need to pass through the river styx and escape through the tunnels. I'll try to use my magic to hide us."

Joshua smiles in relief.  "Okay! Do you know the way?"

Elvis nods. "West."

Joshua begins to run and Elvis sighs. "That's east, idiot."

"Sorry." Joshua returns to Elvis's side and they both run.

"We have to avoid the sun or we'll turn to stone!" Elvis says as they run.

And just like that....he forgot his troubles for a while.
