Chapter 35
Cinderella POV
I woke up and looked at the clock. Today was the day my mom was taking me to the zoo. I was really excited; being a seven year old who had never been there.
I quickly brushed my teeth, changed to my little red dress and matching shoes, and went to ask my mom to braid my hair.
Quietly, I knocked on her door, loud enough for her to hear.
I waited, when I didn't hear any sound, I tried again.
No one answered.
That's weird, I thought.
I opened the door; it creaked as I did.
I heard coughs. "B-bella?" I heard a hoarse voice call me from the bed.
Mom was looking pale and coughed a lot.
"M-mommy, are you okay?" I asked, stuttering because tears began in my eyes. I may have been small but I knew something bad was happening.
"I love you." she said, before her head tilted to the right and she was out. Dead. Gone.
I panicked. "M-mom, wa-wake up!" I said.
She didn't budge. "MOM!" I yelled louder but she couldn't hear me.
"D-dad!" I yelled, running to the phone and calling him. He was at work.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
After the third one he picked up.
"Hello?" he said, his voice sounded lighter and rushed.
"D-dad!" I said in the phone, relief in my voice.
"Sweetie, I'm in a meeting. A meeting means don't call daddy." he reminded me.
"I have to go now, sorry pumpkin." he said.
"DAD WAIT! MOMMY IS SICK! SHE WON'T GET UP" I told him.
"W-what?!" he said, sounding alarmed.
"I went to her room and she was coughing and then she fell asleep again." I said in one breath.
"She's probably sleeping. Wake her up and I'll talk to her."
I ran to the room, shaking mom by the shoulder. I remembered that doctors check your pulse to see if you were feeling okay so I laid my head where her heart was.
I didn't hear anything.
"Daddy! I can't hear Mommy's heart!" I said, tears running down my eyes.
"I'm coming right now! I am going to call the ambulance so they can take Mommy to the hospital. Open the door for them, okay?" he asked.
"Ok."
Even as a little child I knew, if the heart stops, the persons life stopped too, but I didn't want to believe it.

I waited with my father in the hospital a few hours later.
The doctor came out, making eye contact with me. His eyes looked of sorrow and grief as he shook his head.
She was gone. Forever.

I woke up on the floor of the attic. Tears were dry on my face as I looked around.
I remembered what happened last night.
This is my new "home" now and there was no way out.
I looked at the glass slipper.
"No one can save you now." I muttered to myself.
