Chapter 21

Cinderella's POV

"Isabella! Get down here and clean all this dirt these filthy gardeners left!" my stepmother shouted.

I reluctantly got out of bed, still dizzy from the sudden movement, I fall back in.

I sighed, thinking about what happened this week.

Getting up, I place my hair in a messy bun, put on my mother's old dress and go down stairs to get a  bucket of soap and water.

"There you are.." she said, and scanned me with her eyes, a look of disgust on her face. "Perfect." she smiled with an evil glint in her eyes.

Walking away I saw that there was mud under her heels, she was the one who had made the place dirty.

I let out a sigh of defeat as I looked around the house, covered in dirt. "I'll be back in five days, me and the girls are going to Australia." she said happily.

The door locked and I was alone...or so I thought.

"Meow." I heard. A cat, I thought.

Starting to search, I gave up and stood in silence, seeing if the cat would make anymore noise.

"Meow." again the cat called. It was much louder in the kitchen. I began searching until I looked under the fridge and saw a...kitten.

I kneeled to pick up the kitten and it jumped into my hands, so small.

I saw on the collar had a label on it. Jackson, it read.

I rolled my eyes with a smile, taking the small paper that was rolled up and tied by a ribbon to read it.

Dear Cinderella,

I want you to have this kitten, it's a boy and I named it Jackson to remind you of me. Whenever you need me, I'll be right there. I may or may not have secretly told Skylar to hide the baby cat until you found it today. I wish I was there with you, but for now, say hello to Jackson jr.

I read the letter over and over again, a wide grin etched onto my face. I placed the note to my heart and began to pick up the kitten until I saw a small bed for it and cat food under the sink cabinet.

I thought up of everything.

Another note by Jackson.

I sighed. "If only you were here." I muttered out loud.

"Come on, Jackson. If the steps see you, they'll send you to the pound. We wouldn't want that now would we." I said in a playful voice.

"Meow." the kitten said and lightly shook it's head, gesturing a no.

I froze, widening my eyes.

"Y-you understand me...." I asked the baby cat.

"Meow." it said, shaking it's head to tell me yes.

I back away, holding onto the counter.

"Well Jackson said you could listen, I didn't think you could understand..." I told the kitten.

It's eyes began to droop and it stumbled on it's little paws.

I smiled, picking it up and the bed and food, and walked up the stairs.

Carefully hiding Jackson Jr. behind my bed, I walked downstairs and sat on the floor, wiping the floor with the sponge. Bubbles were everywhere.

As I looked at my reflection in one of the bubbles. I began to hum a song, laughing at myself as the bubble popped.

Maybe Jackson was right, maybe I am Cinderella....except for the Princess part.
