•THE STEP SISTER'S DISCOVERY•

While Naruto and Hinata spent time dilly dallying in the home economics lab, news spread around so quick that Sasuke was searching for the mystery girl that danced with him at his party the previous night.

The discovery that the girl was actually attending their school was as amazing as it was surprising. This was the girl that captured their dark prince's heart.

It was so easy to impose as the girl but unfortunately, one had to make the dessert that she brought to the potlatch party that night to do a proper job of impersonating her. Most people didn't know but because Sakura was paying close attention to their interaction that night, she knew the dessert was cinnamon buns.

But of what good would that knowledge be for her? She didn't know how the girl's buns tasted– it would definitely be more delicious than whatever tragedy she could come up with– and she didn't even have the tiniest bit of idea how the girl interacted with Sasuke.

She was sad because she didn't even get a chance to present Sasuke her dessert (even if she didn't make it herself) before she was disqualified but what could she do? Somebody else had won.

Ino had a family outing to attend today so she didn't follow Sakura home as usual, which was weird because now she got home earlier than usual and there was literally nothing to do except her homework.

"Hinata!" Sakura called as she pushed the big doors to her house open. Usually her step sister would be at home by the time she got back but she was getting no answer today. Perhaps she was in her room?

Sakura dropped her bags on one of the couches and removed her shoes on the staircase as she went. It was a force of habit. She couldn't drop her things in the right place even if she wanted to.

"Hina-!" She opened the door to the small room but stopped short as it came up empty. She deflated. Oh shucks. Sakura wanted to rant to Hinata about her bad day, what was her deal with coming home late today?

Sakura took a proper look around at the tiny space her mother provided for her sister to call a room and her mouth fell apart in awe. Okay... this had to be the first time in years since she had been here but was the space always so tiny?!

What seventeen year old girl would be comfortable in this capsule called a room?! Sakura stepped in with an imaginary permission from her imaginary Hinata and started snooping around just for fun and because she was curious. What kind of things did Hinata own?

Her emerald eyes caught sight of a black journal on a tiny study table that she would normally use for a footstool and Sakura pounced upon it like it was the last bacon on earth. A diary! Hinata has a diary! How cute!

All social etiquette about privacy, Sakura opened the book only to be disappointed when she saw measurements and ingredients instead of secret crushes and maybe hate messages.

"Che. Not a diary." Sakura pouted. She was about to dismiss the book when a certain page opened as if by magic (more like an uncanny coincidence). Her eyes widened when she saw the words displayed on the heading line. 'Cinnamon Buns' it read.

Now as easily susceptible to anger as Sakura was she wasn't someone that made fast conclusions. This was a recipe book, every recipe book contained how to make cinnamon buns. This could be one big coincidence, right?

It was at this moment a shiny object knew it would catch her eyes.

There, lying under Hinata's small bed like the little piece of cake (note the cuss word) it was a mask. When Sakura pulled it out it turned out to be the same mask that the mysterious girl at the ball wore on the night of Sasuke's birthday.

Rage flooded Sakura like water from a broken dam does to the city below it. Her grip was so tight on the mask that it would've broken with the slightest bit more pressure. "Hinata you double crossed me!" She growled angrily.

Sakura felt, alongside anger, betrayal, jealousy and bitterness. Why didn't Hinata outright tell her that she was the girl at the ball? Why did she even lie about not going to the ball? Why did she pretend not to know anything when Sakura was crying her eyes out in front of her because she lost before she even had a chance?! Was Hinata mocking her?!

"ARRGH!" Sakura screamed angrily and was about to throw the stupid mask away when, like a light switch flipping on, an idea popped into her head. She halted in her swinging motion and brought down the mask for a closer inspection.

There was a thin coloured glass sheet blocking the eyeholes so there was no way Sasuke knew it was Hinata. If not he would've recognized her unique white eyes immediately.  Also, if her memory served her correctly, Hinata wore a veil that completely hid her hair.

Sakura has Hinata's recipe book and the mask she wore on the night of the event. She even knows what dessert she prepared. An excited cackle began to form at the back of Sakura's throat at her upcoming plan. This could work!

Even though she hated how so much like her mother it made her sound, Sakura was going to have her revenge on Hinata for mocking her and for stealing what was rightfully hers!

Fast forward three days later...

Sasuke announces that he has found the mystery girl at the ball.
