🍰 Chapter 1 🍰
• NOT YOUR USUAL CINDERELLA STORY •
Everybody knows the Cinderella story. A beautiful girl gets mistreated by her step mother and siblings, goes to a ball with the help of a fairy godmother, falls in love with the prince, loses her glass slipper, finds it, marries the prince and lives happily ever after. Yeah that story.
You know it? Good. Now trash that story somewhere at the back of your mind where your memory can't reach. This is going to be another Cinderella story.
Of course there's the beautiful girl who gets mistreated by her step mother and sibling in this story! What kind of Cinderella story doesn't have that cliché damsel in distress?
Yes, I know I said my story's different and it is! So shush that tiny voice in your head up and just read as the story unfolds.
It all begins in a town called Konoha, when a noble man made the mistake of marrying a second wife. No. No. Nope. This isn't a royal 1600s au. Nain. This is a modern story, with iPhones and cinnamon buns and a better sense of fashion, thank you very much!
Hiashi Hyuga was easily one of the town's richest men. His company had many branches in all of the Five Elemental Nations and he was a member of the Hokage council. He was as influential as they got. Blessed with a beautiful wife and two ethereal daughters, Hiashi Hyuga could have asked for nothing more.
He was happy until his dear wife died. Then out of loneliness and his children's need for a mother he decided to remarry. Fortunately for him there was an available widow who went by the name Mebuki Haruno. She had a daughter too. They had like minds and instantly hit it off.
Now his daughters had a sister and a mother and he had a companion, what more could he need? Hiashi most certainly did not need death but look who decided to drop by and pay him a visit? Okay, ouch, that was a cruel joke.
Hiashi died and Mebuki's true colours as a gold digger was revealed. The blond woman instantly gave her younger step daughter, Hanabi Hyuga to the girl's uncle claiming that three girls were a bit too much for her as a two time widow to handle.
Why she let the first one stay with her, nobody knew. Perhaps it was to mock Hiashi. Perhaps it was to give her daughter a disposable maid. Perhaps it was media service to hide the fact that she loathed the girl. Who knew?
So that was how Hinata Hyuga grew up in a lion's den. Her half sister, Sakura Haruno was definitely nicer to her than her stepmother but sometimes she made the fact that she was the superior sibling known. All in good faith though, because Hinata didn't mind doing all the chores and having little to herself.
Hinata and Sakura were two sides of a coin.
Hinata had midnight dark hair, pretty pale eyes and an incredible body figure that Sakura had once admitted to being jealous of. She was also kind and gentle. Literally anybody that saw and spoke to Hinata, boys especially, liked her at once. It was however so easy for girls to be jealous of her after all she was everything they wished to be.
Sakura on the other hand had hair the colour of cherry blossoms, her name sake, and stunning green eyes. While she was not as endowed as her counterpart she still cut a figure. She wasn't as nice as Hinata was and she was definitely not gentle, leaning more on the fiercely aggressive side but she had a heart of gold. She could not cook though. Bummer, because cooking would be our glass slipper in this story.
So there you have it– the main cast of our story! Starring:
Hinata Hyuga as Cinderella
Sakura Haruno as the step sister
Mebuki Haruno as the step mother
And
Cinnamon bun-kun as the glass slipper.
Guess who'll be the fairy godmother! (wink wink)
Back to the story.
The sisters both attended Konoha High School where our prince charming would come to be in later parts of our story. For now, let's focus on some Sakura and Hinata interaction, shall we?
It was no new occurrence that Hinata forgoed food in favour of doing house chores because of Mebuki. So here Hinata was doing the laundry, vacuuming the floors, cooking, and being hungry all at the same time.
She was in the middle of cleaning Sakura's room when the pinkette in question barged in with her best friend, Ino. They slipped off their expensive flats, throwing them haphazardly across the room and threw their bags anywhere they wished to land too.
They were both squealing on the top of their voices like a baby that was being immunised and both bounced on the bed that Hinata just made. No regards went to the dark haired girl as both their faces were stuck in their iPhone pro max versions.
Hinata didn't mind though. Sakura usually forgot about her whenever she was in the midst of her friends. She patiently picked the shoes and bags up and arranged them before going back to what she was doing previously.
"Yiii! He's so cute!" Ino's loud squeal reached her ears in Sakura's private bathroom where she was taking out her half sister's dirty clothes from the hamper. They were a lot, a huge mountain of expensive clothes, because Sakura changed clothes as often as she blinked.
"I know!" Sakura's voice replied. Hinata pitied the guy on the receiving end of their affections this time. It had once been Neji, a senior by one year and the guy had brutally flipped them off with his sharp tongue. That and Neji was in a secret relationship with the residential tomboy, Tenten, back then.
Now let me tell you about Neji. He's tall, handsome and the best cousin to ever exist. In case you didn't get that, he's Hinata's cousin and the fairy godmother of our story. Yay! Did you guess correctly?
The sole reason Neji kept his relationship with Tenten a secret from everybody else other than the people who knew about it was because he was often teased for being the 'girl' of the relationship. It was true, to Hinata at least.
Neji was prissy and sharp tongued and overly meticulous about his long dark hair. He was always prim and polite, not a single hair out of place, and very proper— like a noble girl. It didn't help that he designed and made dresses.
Tenten on the other hand was the total opposite of her boyfriend. Absolutely free spirited, had a bad sense of fashion and always did things out of order.
It was always so funny to watch when Neji made a fuss about a single strand of hair that was poking from Tenten's bun while Tenten slapped his hand away in vain or when Neji was trying to get Tenten to stay still whenever he used her as his model.
Hinata made the mistake of giggling out loud at her memories of the funny couple as she passed by her sister and her friend. She was called back by Ino who was bossier than Sakura in more ways than one.
"Hey you, Hina-whatever your name is."
Hinata didn't dwell on the fact that Ino did know her name and still decided to call her a wrong name every time they met. That was just Ino being Ino. "Yes?" She replied.
"Why were you laughing? You don't think I can win Sasuke-kun's heart? Are you calling me ugly?!" Ino asked hotly, wanting a fight but Hinata only got confused. Her head lolled to the side in question.
"Sasuke-kun? Who's that?" She asked and her companions' mouths dropped to the floor.
"W-wait." Sakura was the first to jolt awake. "You mean you don't know who Sasuke-kun is?!" She balked at Hinata's cluelessness. Who on earth didn't know Sasuke-kun?!
"Me." Hinata responded Sakura's unbeknownst spoken thoughts shyly, eyes peeking out from her dark tresses and face red. It wasn't her fault her phone was some cheap model which couldn't even surf the internet!
"Ugh! Clueless child, Sasuke Uchiha is only the cutest, richest, hottest guy to ever exist!" Ino forgot all about her recent agitation and chose to gush over the unknown guy instead.
"Ah! His hair is so dark and his eyes are so piercing! Not to mention his lips! They're so plush and kissable- ah I can't!" Sakura gushed next to her.
"He's transferring to our school next week! We get to see him face to face!" Ino squealed. Sakura squealed. They held hands and squealed while jumping around like banshees.
Hinata left sometime during their fagirling moments. She had a ton of housework and schoolwork to do so she could not stay to listen to them prattle about the handsome Uchiha that was coming to their school.
Not that it mattered anyway. There was no reason for somebody as godlike as who the girls just described to ever talk to her. She had a very small presence and so was often invisible. That or people just ignored her out of spite.
Hinata separated Sakura's clothes and passed the first batch into the washing machine. Her stomach gave a wamble. She was hungry but she wasn't allowed to eat until she finished her chores. That was right, she didn't have the luxury to daydream about handsome boys. She was a slave in her own house.
Sasuke Uchiha? The most handsome guy ever? Pfft. As if.
