20: Acceptance

Cinderella's POV

I left the dining room and went to my guest room (I just refused to stay in there alone, that's the reason why I went to Arthur's room). I changed into a simple dress and went to the gardens to meet with Arthur. He wasn't there yet, so I just looked over the many flowers and plants growing in the garden because that's what gardens are for...right?

Anyways, I was out in the open fresh air minding my own business when I heard someone not-so subtly come up behind me.

"You're not really quiet, you know," I chided, turning around to see Edward the Terrible. He even looked terrible. Ha. Serves him right.

"Cinderella, I just want a chance," he said almost pleadingly.

"You're going to have to be more specific than that," I snapped. He looked lost for a moment.

"Well, for starters, I'm sorry for the way I treated you as a child, and I hope you can forgive me," he said sheepishly. I narrowed my eyes at me dangerously. "I also hope you can find it in your heart to love me too."

"That's it? You're pathetic," I spat angrily.

"What-?"

"Listen to me," I hissed, grabbing his collar and pulling him down to my eye level (I know, I know! Not princess-like, but I could care less right now!). "And listen well in that tiny head of yours. I like--no, love Arthur because of his strong character. He would make a good king, he knows how to treat a girl right, and he is very--and I say very--gentlemanly."

"W-what about me?" Edward asked, trying to get a good balance from the way I was holding his collar. Hey, I'm a strong girl.

"You? I see you as someone who doesn't know how to treat a girl or her body right," I snarled, my voice low and quiet. "You aren't responsible for anything, and you aren't the term for gentlemanly." I shoved him back sharply, and he fell on the ground.

As I turned away, I heard him scrambling to his feet.

"W-wait! Cinderella! I can be those things too!" He yelled desperately. I scoffed at him and glared daggers at him over my shoulder.

"Edward," I said in a warning tone. "I don't love you. I love Arthur. I love him for who he is. As for you, you should find someone who would reciprocate your feelings. Chase after me, and I'll send you through a living nightmare."

"But why can't you see I love you too?" He asked.

"Because I don't love you that way!" I yelled. "For the love of chocolates, are you this pathetic and useless?!" I glared at him and walked away. "I've had enough of this nonsense. Edward, get a proper girl and a life!"

No one's POV

As an angry Cinderella went to find her lover, Edward stood back, thinking about her words. He slowly recalled every past memory of himself hurting her as a child. Then, he thought of all the times he had been irresponsible and took advantage over many girls.

Suddenly, the youngest prince fell to his knees, a strong tremor racing through his body.  His entire body shook, his head swam, and the last thing he saw was a familiar girl running up to him just before he fell unconscious.
