Chapter 19

"...Something completely unrelated; both the Underground and the Dragons have, basically, the same goals. Take over Cilyber, tear the Cilyber City Police Center from its roots, establish a new justice system for their new system. It's simply under different names. Under different titles. So are they both good? It was a possibility. So why are they fighting each other? Because the truth is, they are both corrupt. They want control, power, above everything else they claim to care for. I thought I chose the lesser evil by joining the Glass Dragons. I have never been so wrong in my life..."

~Keith's Journal, Entry Number: #164

Keith

He brushed his messy long hair aside. Remnants of a warrior robot lay at his feet. The damn metal thing had torn off one of his metal arms before going down, pummeled into the floor then ripped into pieces by what was left of Keith.

"That was my favorite arm, you bastard," he snarled, kicking the thing's head, metal clanging against metal. For once, Keith didn't feel resentful of his metal arms and legs.

Something caught the attention of his cybernetic right eye, and he dove behind cover, just before the metal man clicked once and exploded.

°°°°°°°°

A real shame. He wanted to dissect it, study the pieces. It was more advanced than anything he had seen before in the city, more than the enhancements on the citizens, more than the robotic cats and dogs sold at the Carnival.

Nothing was left but a pile of rubble, about as useful as the garbage can, now heavily dented by the explosion, lying on its side next to charred robotic pieces.

And the shit eaters still had his research. He let out a bellow of raw rage and fury.

The thought that they had Jade as well troubled him. But nothing more. It was inconvenient, that's all, and he would treat it as such.

"Fine, Reeve, you little jackass. I'll show you. You want to play? Let's play your little game."

So Keith thought and thought, pacing back and forth in the metal cluttered alleyway. Keith would have even scratched his chin if his arm were still intact. He had a few pieces of valuable information. A few Tekler Board pieces. Because that's what this was, a game, and it wouldn't be right if Keith didn't invite others to play.

He was sure the Glass Dragons wouldn't mind recovering his research in return for details about the Underground location and defenses. Like the fact that they had war robots.

They'd look at him with suspicion, because nothing was simple with them. The man Slade would look him up and down, decide he was telling the truth, then take him to the Master. He shivered just imagining those red eyes on him. Judging him for deserting the Dragons. The punishment was execution, but they would forgive him once he gave them the information.

That he was sure of.

Just like he expected, they hadn't bothered to scan Jade for tracking devices. He didn't have a doubt that Reeve would hide her PortaZone, probably with some sort of complex code or machine. So he didn't bother even trying that way.

He spoke to his own PortaZone (he felt strangely unbalanced with only one arm), and there she was. Stationary, not very far away, a few floors below him. Or however low the Underground was.

That was also where his research was. The fact that the Dragons would bring harm to Jade didn't even cross Keith's mind. After all, they just wanted to get rid of their competition, the Underground, right?

Right?

Hey there, guys! Another Keith chapter here.

Thanks for tuning in again this week. I hope you like those little Keith chapters, they just show things from a different perspective.

P.S. I have to apologize for posting slightly smaller chapters these two weeks. Final exams are here, and I'd better pass that physics exam :}

Have a great day!
