After the fateful encounter with Trazyn The Infinite, everything went dark. For a moment, Ciaphas Cain believed that his luck had finally run out. But after an unknown amount of time had passed, Ciaphas Cain woke up in an unfamiliar place. He looked around and saw that he was in a dimly lit semi-organic orange hued landscape. Before Cain could process his surroundings, Jurgen approached Cain.

Jurgen: Commissar Cain! We have enemies inbound! 

Cain looked to see the Vahlallan 597th under attack by a horde of Collectors. The Valhallan 597th held the line as the Collectors swarmed them. Cain took command as Jurgen fired his Meltagun to thin out the Collector herd. As they held the line, one of the Collectors began to twitch and convulse. 

Harbinger: Assuming direct control.

As Harbinger took control of the Collector, he glances over to Cain. Without hesitation, Harbinger charged at Cain. Cain was blindsided as Harbinger grabbed Cain by the throat. Cain struggled to breathe as he looked into the inhuman eyes of what he thought to be some kind of Necron.

Harbinger: You are not supposed to be here. 

Cain: The feeling is mutual, Necron!

Cain pulls out his Laspistol and fires several shots at Harbinger. The shots didn't kill Harbinger, though he let Cain go. Seizing the opportunity, Cain prepared his Chainsword and began attacking Harbinger. Though Cain got a good strike in, Harbinger unleashed a Biotic blast which blasts Cain several feet. But when Harbinger began to approach Cain, Jurgen fired his Meltagun as Harbinger, critically wounding the controlled Collector. Cain seizes the opportunity to plunge his Chainsword into Harbinger, finishing him off. Cain watches in shock as Harbinger's body deteriorates. Cain regains his composure as he turns to Jurgen. 

Cain: Thank you for the assist Jurgen. 

Jurgen nods as Cain rejoins his men. As the Valhallan 597th continued to hold the line, the Collectors continued to flood the Imperium regiment. At this point, more Collector reinforcements arrive. Suddenly, the Normandy crashed right next to them. At first, Cain thought reinforcements had arrived. 

Cain: About bloody time you arrived! We've got Necrons swarming our....

Cain turned to face the Normandy and was taken aback by the Normandy's design. It was unlike any Imperium ship he had ever seen. It wasn't long before Commander Shepard and his team exited the Normandy. Cain quickly noticed the aliens within Shepard's team, but didn't seem to recognize any of their species. 

Shepard: We weren't expecting anyone else here except the Collectors.

Cain: Collectors? You mean the Necrons? My men have been holding the line. 

Garrus: Necrons? Is that what we're calling them now.

Shepard: Cut the chatter, Garrus. We still have a job to do. Our new friends here will make this attack a lot easier.

As Shepard says this, he and his team began to move out into the Collector Base. By this point, Cain had no idea of what was going on. Can was at first hesitant about fighting beside Shepard in his team. But in his mind, they weren't trying to kill him. And that made them allies. The Guardsmen of the 597th were perplexed by the aliens who were now their allies, but they trusted in Cain's judgement. As the Vahlallan 597th prepared for another way, Shepard and his team enacted their own plan as Quarian mechanist Tali went into the vents. 

Shepard: We need to cover Tali and keep her safe! 

As Shepard and his team moved forward, Cain and the Valhallan 597th followed their lead. As they encountered another group of Collectors, Harbinger took control of another Collector. As Harbinger took control of the Collector, he wasted in time in attacking both Cain and Shepard. 

Harbinger: The forces of the universe bend to me. I am the Harbinger of your ascendance.

Cain: Never knew a Necron to be a Throne Botherer. 

As Harbinger attacked Cain and Shepard, Cain began swinging his Chainsword at Harbinger while Shepard fired his M-8 Avenger assault rifle at him. Harbinger was able to protect himself with a Biotic Field. 

Harbinger: Pathetic. You cannot hope to win this fight. 

Shepard: We'll see about that! 

As Shepard goes for the kill, Harbinger unleashes a Biotic Blast which knocks back Shepard several feet. But before Harbinger could finish Shepard off, Cain swings his Chainsword at Harbinger, damaging him. 

Cain: Fall damnit! 

Harbinger: You cannot hope to destroy me. I am limitless. You are bacteria.

Cain: I don't know what kind of Necron trick this is, but I for one am sick of it!

Cain pressed the attack on Harbinger. As Harbinger was about to go for the kill, Cain impales Harbinger and follows through by shooting Harbinger in the head with his Laspistol. 

Cain: That better be the last of you....

Cain then walks up to Shepard and helps him up.

Shepard: Thanks for the assistance.....

Cain: Cain. Commissar Ciaphas Cain of the Valhallan 597th. We better.....

Before Cain could finish, more Collector reinforcements arrived. Cain and the Valhallan 597th held the line as Shepard and his team pressed on. As Shepard and his team advanced to the next part of the Collector Base, Cain rallied his troops. But as the Valhallan 597th held the line, the Collectors were on the verge of overwhelming them. It wasn't long before Cain spotted a swarm of bug like creatures heading his way. It was in that moment that Cain thought that he reached the end of the line. It seemed as if Cain would die in what he believe to be a Necron Tombworld. But a light flashed over Cain and the Valhallan 597th. When the light faded, Cain and the Valhallan 597th were gone. They had survived the first universe.
