six. sweet, sweet fantasy, baby
Artist: Mariah Carey
Song: Fantasy
"What are you looking at?" Asked a curious Ashton, his brows coming together as he turned to face the direction Calum was facing then squinting.
The brown boy couldn't believe his eyes.
At the top of the bleachers, a few other girls along with her, stood the girl he met that night.
The one he wrapped his arms around and had the privilege of sharing a dance.
The one with the big, chunky earrings.
The one he knows as Blu.
He thought he'd never see the girl again. The boy was sure she was like a dream, something that came by once but the moment you open your eyes, that's it.
But there she stood, giggling at something her friend said, a few feet away from the boy.
He wasn't going to let her slip this time.
This was his second chance and he'd be crazy to not take full advantage of it.
So, he ignored his puzzled friend and darted towards the bleachers, leaving Ashton in the dust until he started to follow after him.
"What--Calum!" Ashton called out, his golden curls flopping around as the heated wind slapped him in the face.
However, the brown boy didn't allow his friend to slow him down. As he made it to the metal bleachers, he carefully but swiftly made it up the stair-like seats, coming closer to the girl.
He had to ignore the fact she was sucking on a lollipop or he would've stumbled and broke something on his way back down the bleachers.
But thankfully, he focused and finally made it up to the girl.
The girl's surrounded by Blu gave both the panting and sweating messes standing near them a distasteful look, most of the crowd leaving soon after.
All except one girl who had her eyes on Ashton.
"Girl, you know these fools?" The light-skinned girl nudged Blu, who wore a grin on her lips, gaining a nod from the girl.
"Yeah, I know 'em." Blu replied, popping the lollipop from her mouth, watching in amusement as Calum bent over and caught his breath.
Even though she played it cool, her heart raced the moment she caught sight of the boy out on the field.
Her pride wouldn't allow her to admit it aloud but she hadn't stop thinking about the boy since the day she left the party.
So, seeing him again, in the flesh, was so surreal.
But he'll never know because she always played nonchalant, never letting him see her sweat, so to speak.
Or...at least she hoped.
Calum raised his head and straightened himself out and smiled. The expression nearly taking Blu's breath away.
"It's you." He breathed out, still in shock she was right there in front of him.
Blu couldn't help but giggle, the sound making the boy bite his bottom lip.
Had he not, he'd be a grinning mess.
"And it's you." Blu answered, her eyes falling on Ashton who seemed to be dying from the sudden run. She raised her brows. "He good?" She nodded in the direction of the golden boy.
"Huh--" Calum started, confused at first then looking over his shoulder at his friend who had to lay out on one of the bleacher seats to catch his breath.
He waved a dismissive hand at him and brought his focus back on the girl.
"Uh, yeah he's fine. Wow, I can't believe I'm talking to you again." Calum eagerly said, hopping off the topic of his fatigued friend quickly.
He wasn't there to talk about how out of shape his teammate appeared to be.
Blu grinned and twirled the stick of her lollipop then pointed it at him. "Likewise, Calum." She replied, giggling when his mouth nearly dropped.
He didn't think she'd remember his name.
That only gave him a boost of cockiness, a smirk soon find his lips. He took a step forward. "So, you do remember me?" He raised an eyebrow on his devilishly handsome face, making the girl almost choke on her blow pop.
Blu rolled her eyes but a grin found her lips. It's obvious her words gave him a boost of confidence, something she found both annoying and attractive.
And if that didn't give him a kick of cockiness, then her next response was sure to do it.
"How can I forget you?" Blu asked rhetorically but also literally.
She couldn't forget the boy. Even if she fixed her mouth to deny it, deep down inside she would know she's lying.
Calum was sure he felt his heart stop for a moment then flutter away at her response.
It was weird because he's never felt that way...well, ever.
Not even Cecilia has made him feel that way.
It was like all he could do was smile.
As if he was floating and if you stuck a needle into him he'd pop and fly around the room.
The feeling was foreign but he wasn't hiding it nor was he afraid of it.
It was just different.
He didn't have those kind of 'butterfly in your stomach' feelings with anyone else.
So...it was...yeah, different. But in a good way.
"Why you looking at me like that?" Blu asked, noticing his goofy smile and dazed-like state.
As the seconds went on she began to feel small and vulnerable and that's the last thing she is.
So, if he didn't say something quick she was going to smack an answer out of him.
But he just stood there, looking as cute as can be but annoying her with every second.
Blu sucked her teeth and threw a hand to her hip. "Dude, it's either you talk or I'm gonna knock ya lights out." She said warningly, holding up her little fist, soon turning into a giggling mess when he pulled her in, grabbed her hand.
Calum finally snapped out of it, shaking his head then sighing.
"It's just," He paused, realizing he didn't really have an answer. Or it could've been he didn't want to scare her away with his answer. So, he shook his head and smiled. "Nothing."
Blu opened her mouth to say something but she sighed it away.
"I don't know what to say about you." She admitted, half chuckling, glancing down at his gentle grip on her hand and their close proximity.
Calum smirked and moved both his arms around her waist, securing his hands at the small of her back.
Her body naturally wrapped her arms around his neck, a hand on the nape of it.
"Say I can see you, again." The words that left his mouth made the girl feel all gooey inside, her heart doing somersaults.
He looked at her a all dreamy-eyed, with his plump lips and head full of brown curls, something straight out of a fantasy.
But he's too good to be true in her world and that's a world she never wanted him to know.
And even though she's sure he didn't want anything to do with her life and what consisted of it, her treacherous heart wanted to say 'yes'.
But it didn't quite make it to her tongue.
Suddenly, the bell rung, causing them all to jump, and a flood of students loudly crawling out of the corridors like roaches.
Calum's gaze shifted from the girl's big, beautiful eyes to the body of students.
Blu sighed. "I have to get to class." The girl said begrudgingly, bringing her arms down from his neck and to her side.
But Calum whipped his head back to the girl, his hands staying in place.
He wasn't going to let her slip away again.
So, as she attempted to gently break free from the boy, he took a step to the side and gave her hopeful eyes.
"Wait...can I see you again?" He pressed once more, making the girl feel back with every word.
She hated it.
She was trying her best to snake away and avoid having to answer him.
Because she wanted to, she really wanted to tell him he can see her whenever he felt like it.
But it wouldn't work out that way...and that scared her.
Then again, he was just asking for one more time...and that couldn't hurt, right?
Right?
Blu brought her hand to the boy's cheek and rubbed the skin with her thumb.
Calum worried his bottom lip, doubt beginning to surface throughout his body.
Was she not prepared for his question?
Was he being too forward?
But each of those questions vanished as the girl gave him the answer he was anticipating.
Blu nodded softly. "Yeah." She said and Calum nodded along, making her giggle. She could feel his fingers lightly scratch at her backside and it gave her goosebumps.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, you goofball." She jokingly said, lightly shoving the boy's chest. He chuckled and took another glance at the students walking below them.
"Walk me to class." Blu more so said than asked, nodding towards the small steps besides the bleachers. Calum agreed, taking up her offered hand, interlocking their fingers.
"Sure. Lead the way, Baby Blu." Calum grinned, causing the girl to flash an approval smile his way.
The girl turned to walk down the steps until she noticed Ashton, well remembered, Ashton was still there, jumping at the six foot something boy.
"Yo--"
"Forgot I was here? I'm Ashton and I figured since you two were busy being all cute and gross over there that I'd nap...and I did until I heard the bell." Ashton said, yawning then giving Calum a look, then smiling politely at Blu when she giggled.
"Word? I'm the same way in Spanish 101." She joked, continuing down the bleachers then whipping her head back to the boy, her long burgundy braids swinging as she flashed a grin. "And nice to see you, again, Ashton."
Calum smiled at the girl, attention shifting to the intertwined fingers, that's until Ashton lightly smacked his chest as they walked side by side. He gave him that same look he wore earlier.
The brown boy furrowed his eyebrows. "What?" He mouthed, checking to see if Blu was paying attention but she wasn't.
Ashton raised his brows as if he was shocked. Then he spoke quietly. "Don't act like you don't know, bro. What about Ce--"
"My class ain't too far from here, actually." Blu commented, turning to the two boys, stopping when they reached the last step. Both of them snapped out of their secretive state and gave the girl their attention.
"I think I got it from here, I'm a big girl." Blu reassured, tugging at Calum's fingers a bit, as if she wanted him closer. Which is what she wanted.
The brown boy grinned then looked at Ashton over his shoulder and gave him an expected look.
Ashton's mouth parted then he nodded. "Uh, yeah I'm gonna wait over there," he said, pointing to the area. He then offered a smile Blu's way then a peace sign. "Nice seeing you, again."
She copied his gesture with a warm smile. "Peace out, Ash."
Calum then reached a finger up to her jaw and gently moved her face so they stood eye to eye.
"Alright, enough of him." He said lowly, wrapping an arm around the girl, the other above them and leaning against the pole she stood in front of.
Blu made a 'tuh' noise then rolled her eyes. "Boy, please."
"So, I can see you again?" He questioned out of the blue (pun intended) once again, bringing a faux, dragged sigh from the girl's lips.
She smiled, "Didn't I give you an answer already."
"Yeah, but I like hearing you say it."
Blu blushed then did something she didn't expect to do...but then again she was starting to see that that's how things worked with Calum.
She grabbed the pen that was settled behind his ear and proceeded to write her number on his forearm.
After, she kissed her index and middle then placed it on his cheek before parting from the boy.
And yet, another thing she didn't want to say, was said anyways.
"Hit my line later after eight and I'll tell you as many times as you want." She winked, jogging away towards her classroom.
Calum was shell-shocked for a moment, his eyes burning holes into his forearm.
He had to blink when they started to burn, a toothy smile finding his lips because he did it.
The boy didn't miss his second chance.
He felt victorious, like nothing could bring him down.
That's until...
"I wonder what Cecilia's gonna say when she finds out you have a new buddy."
Until Ashton's smart mouth brought his whole world crashing down around him.
