Song: Sittin' Up In My Room
Tonight was a big night.
Not only was it the Calum's official game night as a captain, which was big in itself.
But that wasn't the reason why this was such a big night.
It was the night they took on the East Compton boys, kicking the soccer season off with a classic rivalry.
Calum made sure he got a good night's sleep the previous night and focused on nothing but soccer practice the next morning.
He could barely pay attention in class, the classes that he went to, at least, going to the school's gym after lunch.
This wasn't anything out of the norm. Calum usually didn't eat or focus much on anything besides a game when there were games like tonight.
Ever since he was a JV player he's been praised for his leadership skills and finally, tonight to be exact, he will be making his first impression as captain.
Calum was nervous, obviously, who wouldn't be.
This wasn't some team that's know for their crowd booing them because they're just that bad, nope.
This was an elite team playing at levels he's only seen done by the professionals.
He wasn't exaggerating, he's seen their team practice play-by-plays and they're literal beasts.
...especially Reese.
Calum's jaw clenched at the thought of the opposite team's captain.
He was scary good.
The brown boy didn't expect much from the light-skinned boy, paying way too much attention to his school and surroundings, at first.
It was ignorant of him to think of such a thing but he couldn't help it.
Of course, he learned his lesson and wasn't going to be judging a book by its cover or surroundings any longer.
If Calum would've told you he wasn't nervous about going head to head with Reese, he'd be lying.
But, if its one thing Calum had, he had guts and wasn't one to turn down a challenge.
Calum had just finished his set of suicides when he heard the double doors of the gym open, a small gust of wind flying into the musty area.
"Wow, it smells like you've been working hard." He heard Ashton's voice say loudly, taking an audible, deep inhale once he made it hallway inside. "Yeah, it's got you written all over it, dude." He added, causing Calum to chuckle, placing his hands on his hips to catch his breath.
"I've got to man. Those East Compton boys are beasts. I hope the team is ready for a practice like never before." The brown boy snickered, though he was as serious as a heart attack.
Ashton can tell the pressure of winning this game was getting to Calum in a major way. He can tell by his demeanor.
But he wouldn't dare tell him to relax or try to calm down because if he was in his friend's shoes he'd probably act the same way.
The golden boy sighed, nodding as he dropped his bag, allowing it to hit the ground.
"We'll be ready. Just lead the way, Cap'." Ashton smiled warmly, patting Calum on the shoulder, before passing him and heading towards the dumbbells.
The brown boy followed, grabbing his water bottle on the way.
"You know Cecillia was looking for you all day today. She even asked me where you were but I told her you were focused on the game so you didn't have time." Ashton strained as he removed a fifty pound dumbbell from the rack.
Calum rolled his eyes at the fact that she decided, today of all days, to want to act like his girl...or whatever she was to him. The boy was growing tired of it.
But soon a pang a guilt dropped in his stomach, noticing how Ashton had his back when it came to giving the girl a reply.
He hated hiding things from Ashton, having done so only once when they were six, but he felt he had no other choice.
Ashton didn't get it. He didn't understand how Blu made him feel; He couldn't put his feet in Calum's shoes.
So it was only right that the boy kept his intentions for Blu a secret, for now, at least.
Maybe when, and if, because that's still a possibly of this situation being an if, him and Blu get serious, then he will let Ashton know.
But for now, this was the best option.
No matter how bad it felt.
Ashton furrowed his brows slightly, noticing how his friend grew silent.
"Cal?" Ashton called out, placing the dumbbell back in it's place on the rack. Calum was quick to snap out of it, whipping his head in the direction of his friend.
"Uh, yeah. Thanks, mate."
"Dude, I told you we're going to be ready tonight." Ashton chuckled, trying to be an encouraging, good friend but little did he know Calum wasn't worried about the game...in that moment.
But Ashton didn't know that nor was he going to know.
So he nodded and stepped over to the rack. "I know. Now, let's see if you'll be saying that after I whoop your butt in these bench reps." Calum joked, racing to the machine, Ashton in tow.

"Girl, you are buggin', right now. What I look like going to a soccer game?"
Blu honestly regretted mentioning the soccer game to her friend Tasha. She could literally count the twelve times the girl either rolled her neck, rolled her eyes, or rolled her finger around as she spoke.
If she wasn't her best friend, Blu was sure she'd smack her upside the head.
"Tasha, 'member that one time you went to the home game last year? Don't play." Blu said raising a brow at the girl when the girl sucked her teeth.
"Okay but that was solely for Tyrese fine self. You know I had a thing for dark chocolate Junior Year." Tasha chuckled, sticking her tongue out in the most ghetto way possible.
Blu rolled her eyes, grabbing her bag from her bed. "Can't we just go for an hour and then bounce? Everybody at school gon' be there and I know you wanna see Reece run up and down that field, sis." The brown skinned girl joked, almost falling over at the dramatic noise that came from her friend.
"You see, don't even do that because you know I've been craving caramel this year." Tasha groaned, fanning herself as if she's cooling herself down. "Reece King is all kinds of fine." She added, shivering to place emphasis to her words.
Blu snorted then rolled her browns, waving a dismissive hand. "Child please, he ain't all that." She said, causing Tasha to gasp, placing a hand to her chest.
"You wasn't feeling this way bef--yo," Tasha's hazel eyes grew in size, a grin forming on her face as if she connected the dots to something. Blu jerked her head back in confusion, looking at her friend like she had two heads. "You feeling that Chico boy you met at the party, ain't you?" Tasha giggled loudly, sticking her tongue between her teeth.
Blu made a face at the girl, placing a finger to her mouth then looking back at her room door.
"You are so ghetto. I can't take you nowhere!" Blu whispered loudly, taking another look back then quieting to see if she can hear anything from the other room.
Tasha bit on her lower lip, trying her hardest to contain her laughter but failing to do do, resulting in Blu smacking a pillow across her head.
"Don't hit me because you gotta thang for Papi Chulo!"
"He ain't even hispanic, stupid!" Blu rolled her eyes for the hundredth time that day, throwing her pilot back on her bed. "And be quiet before I tell you t'get to steppin."
"I just can't help it. Wait," Tasha paused, that goofy look forming on her face again as if she just cracked a code, causing Blu to sigh. "Is that why you wanna go to that soccer game? Homeboy plays soccer?" Tasha asked, trying her hardest not to burst into laughter and cause disruption in the house.
Blu didn't answer, her cheeks burning as she watched her friend nod in confirmation that the girl was in fact stressing the soccer game to see Calum.
The girl couldn't even front.
"Yo, you really feeling him, huh? Risking us getting lynched out there with them white folk just to see your boo. It's kinda cute."
"Shut up, Tasha." Blu groaned in annoyance, throwing her hands over her face. She felt slightly embarrassed since she's so caught up so soon with Calum, something out of the norm for Blu, but she couldn't help it.
She loathed it so much and her conscience continues to tell her not to be any further involved with the boy.
However, as hard as she tried, she couldn't shake it.
Calum was unshakable and the girl knew it.
And as scared as she was to let him in, Blu knew it was only a matter of time.
Tasha sighed as her laughter subsided, that grin still on her face as she shook her head.
"So you really wanna go to this boujie soccer game, huh?" Tasha asked as if she didn't know the answer to that question. She's been Blu's bestfriend for many years so she knows the girl like the back of her hand.
She knows that Blu wants to go, even if she's fighting to do so. In Tasha's opinion, she thinks Blu should let go of the past and allow herself to have fun.
Even if it's with some rich boy from the 'Burbs.
Blu's braids swept to the side as she lifted her head, her internal battle of whether she should actually go or not evident on her face.
Tasha giggled then cooed at her dear friend, "You look like my niece after she gets a whooping. What's wrong kid?"
"You know what's wrong, Tash." Blu quickly replies, side-eying the girl beside her.
"You can't let one situation overlap the other, girl. That was a year and a half ago. Let it remain in the past."
"I could if my past didn't bring something to my present." Blu responded softly, taking a deep breath to free her mind of any thoughts of the past.
Tasha seemed to deflate, exhaling as she placed a hand on her friend's thigh.
"I know, B. But you can try, I mean what you gon' do, never trust a guy ever again? I'm not saying go all the way with Rich Kid--" Tasha was cut short when Blu sucked her teeth and lightly smacked her friend.
"Girl, his name is Calum." She corrected the girl, clearly getting tired of the nicknames.
The hazel-eyed girl smirked, placing a hand on her chest as if she's taken back by the girl's outburst.
"My bad. Okay well, Calum, I'm not telling you to go all the way with Calum but I am telling you that not every guy is the same. Nor is every situation the same." Tasha finished, making a valid point.
Blu pondered on her friend's words, finding it very helpful with her situation.
Yet, she still had her doubts and of course her nagging conscience telling her that this wasn't going to work.
But this wasn't anything official, not like a date or anything.
It was just a game.
And just like she said earlier, everyone at school is going.
So it's no big deal...right?
"So, we going or what? Because I'd love to see the looks on all those bougie barbies faces when East Compton comes through." Tasha chuckled to herself, hopping off the bed then raising her brow over her shoulder at Blu.
...Right?
Blu's heart is telling her to remain seated on her bed and watch the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air until she sleeps.
Blu's head is telling her she'd eventually end up thinking about the boy and ignoring the hilarious show minutes later.
Her mind took lead, thinking of the brown boy that crashed the block party and visited her school, hopping off her bed and flashing a grin Tasha's way.
"Let's show 'em how Compton gets down."
