Chuck vs. The Cougars Part 2

"Dinner? Come on! What the Hell were you thinking, Chuck?" Sarah asked angrily as you all walked back down into Castle.

"What was I supposed to do? We flashed on the guy."

"Those people are from my past, a past you two have no business poking around in."

" Well, we're sorry, we were just trying to do our job." you said.

"I thought you'd be happy I used a little initiative." Chuck added.

You and Chuck then took a seat beside each other, along with Sarah and Casey coming to join you both.

"Uh, don't kill the messenger. Not the kids' fault you went to high school with a treasonous scumbag."

You and Chuck looked at him, nodding your heads and happy he saw it your way.

" Good morning, boys and girls." General Beckman greeted, coming on the screen. "First matter of business: Mark Ratner. He's an engineer at Winthrop-Keller Aeronautics, has clearance to extremely sensitive plans for future weapons technology. Picture the next generation of F-22 Raptors. Essentially, a super bomber."

Casey made a noise, sounding really excited about that thought and you and Chuck looked at him, a little terrified and concerned. Casey noticed and looked down, trying to calm down.

"This technology has been leaked. Chuck's instincts were good. Your mission is to go to dinner with the Ratners, see if Chuck and Y/N flash off of anything." Beckman finished.

" General, I apologize, but I'm afraid I must recuse myself from this mission. My cover has been compromised. " Sarah said.

"Agent Walker, you have preexisting social history with the target. Seems to me like you have the perfect cover." Beckman argued.

"But it's not a cover, ma'am, it's me."

" Well, I hope you enjoy Italian food. Bon appetito." And Beckman was then gone.

Later at night, you and Chuck arrived at Sarah's place all dressed up nice for dinner with the Ratners.

Your dress:

"You're early." Sarah said, letting you both in.

" Technically, we're right on time for our pre-mission debriefing." Chuck said.

"What are you talking about?"

"Standard spy protocol."

" You know, we need some stats for our cover tonight." you said.

"Y/N, I'm really..."

"No need to apologize if you didn't have time for full dossier preparation. I think we'll just go over a few facts together if that's okay. Chuck, did you bring the notepad and pen?"

"Oh yeah! Right here."

Chuck handed it to you then you looked at Sarah. She just stared at you both annoyed, as she put her shoes on.

"Fantastic. I'll go first. Uh, tonight, I'll be playing the role of Jenny's best friend Y/N and Chuck will be a friend as well, since we are dating . I work at Orange Orange, he works at the Buy More, we're not living up to our potential. His sister is Ellie, doctor, engaged to a doctor. They're my family since my family don't care. There, all up to speed on Jenny's best friend and her boyfriend. Your turn."

"I'm not doing this."

" Okay, here's what we know thus far. Jenny Burton went to James Buchanan High School in San Diego, California, class of 1998." you started.

"Is it safe to assume that "Jenny" is a diminutive of "Jennifer? "" Chuck asked.

" Back off, guys. You have as much information as is pertinent to this assignment."

"So spell "Jenny" with an "I" or would..."

" All Jenny's best friend needs to know is that Jenny hates questions about her past." Sarah then snatched the pen out of your hand and threw it at a photo of you two, impaling the frame.

" You got that?"

" I'm good. Yeah, I'm good." you said quickly as Chuck just nodded.

Sarah glared and walked off to the bathroom. You turned to look at Chuck, looking a little scared.

"How did she do that?" Chuck asked.

You just shrugged.

You were all at the restaurant now. It was pretty quiet and you and Chuck were starting to feel awkward now and had to do something about it.

"So, Mark, uh... what line of work are you in?" Chuck asked.

" Uh, engineering. Actually, what I'm working on is technically... top secret."

" And let's keep it that way, 'cause no one gives a rip." Heather told him.

You and Chuck just looked at each other.

"So, how long have you two lovebirds been together?" Heather asked you and Chuck.

"Almost a year now." you said smiling.

"Yeah. Y/N and I have known each other since we were little kids, and have been best friends and it turned into more than just that." Chuck said looking at you.

"Yeah it took us a long time to admit our feelings but... here we are now."

Chuck couldn't help it and leaned in to give you a quick kiss.

"Aww how cute!" Heather said. She then looked over at her husband and gave him a weird look.

"What's the matter with you? You're sweating like a pig. It's kind of gross."

" No. Oh, sorry. I'm fine. I'm fine. Would you excuse me for a minute?" Mark quickly got up and left.

" Sure." she then turned back to Sarah. " So, Jenny, is your job at the yogurt shop, like, a career or are you keeping yourself in Top Ramen between acting gigs."

"Oh, I-I've got a few things going on." Sarah said.

" I mean, Y/N, if you had told me in high school that Jenny Burton wanted to grow up to be a movie star, I would've said, "Dream, little duckling, dream. " And now here we are."

Later, you were all starting to enjoy your dinner, even though Mark was still not back yet.

"Soup looks delicious, guys." Sarah said.

" Mmm, it is. Cilantro, very controversial. You either love it or hate it. Me, I love it." Chuck said as you all began to eat.

"So, Jenny, when's the last time you were down in San Diego?" Heather asked.

"Mm, it's been a while."

" Mm, don't get to visit your dad much?"

Sarah began to choke.

" Um, excuse me, more wine, please. " She asked and the waiter turned around. It was Casey.

"Ah, yes. It's a lovely pinot noir, earthy, complex, with a hint of cherry blossoms."

"So, you know when you're kids and there's always that funhouse that all the kids hang out at. Would you say that was the case with Jenny's house-condo-apartment?" Chuck asked, leaning over to Heather.

Sarah stared at him and dumped her wine on his pants. You gasped.

" Oh! Oh! Oh, my God. I'm so sorry. God, I'm-I'm such a spaz." Sarah said, acting all innocent.

"Now, there's the Jenny we know." Heather said.

"Excuse me. Beg your pardon." Chuck said as he got up to head to the washroom.

"Was that really necessary?" you asked as you scooted beside Sarah.

"Your boyfriend needs to back off."

"So, Heather, uh, how do you stay in such great shape?" Sarah asked her.

"Got obsessed with karate 'cause my instructor's such a hottie. I'm a black belt now. I clued in you didn't want to talk about your dad's situation yet. Y/N do you not know?"

" Uh, do you mind if I take over? " Sarah asked, looking at Casey, who was cutting your food.

"Oh, no. It's my first day."

" Go check on Chuck. " Sarah asked Casey as she stood beside him.

"If you promise not to filet her before I get back."

"I can't promise anything." Sarah then began to cut the fish like a pro. "Took a knife skills course at the culinary academy."

"Is that to further your yogurt career, or are you angling towards something bigger? Say, carving station at Lawry's."

You just looked between the two, feeling extremely uncomfortable and hoping Chuck was going to be coming back soon.

Later, Chuck along with Mark finally came out.

"There you are. All good?" you asked as Chuck came to sit down beside you.

"We have a situation..."

"What?"

"Mark kinda knows I'm a spy."

You just stared at Chuck, wondering what you were going to do about this now.
