Chapter 5: Unraveling Secrets
Once the song ends, the Music Meister vanishes, leaving Barry looking around in confusion. "Where'd he go?"
Kara sighs softly, glancing around the empty stage. "I don't know."
Barry motions for her to follow, offering her a reassuring smile. "Come on, let's find him."
Together, they walk through the dimly lit corridors, past velvet drapes and gilded sconces. They finally find themselves back in the ballroom, illuminated by the warm, golden glow of the chandeliers overhead.
"He's gone," Barry mutters.
"Yup."
"So, what do we do now?" Kara asks, turning to face Barry with a searching look.
"I don't know," Barry admits with a shrug. "I mean, I guess we just... do what he says, right? We have to figure out the plot of the musical, like who needs help, and follow the story."
"Okay, uh, so... what do we know so far?" Kara prompts, her tone soft yet curious.
"We're singers," Barry answers, eyes drifting across the elegantly dressed couples gliding across the floor.
"And apparently, we work for a gangster," Kara adds.
"Yeah, and he wants us to perform for him. Honestly, it's pretty straightforward."
"Right."
"Yeah."
Crystal chandeliers cast soft, swirling patterns across the polished marble floor. Couples sway in graceful unison to a rhythm that fills the air like a dream. Barry and Kara stand at the edge of the dance floor, their eyes scanning the room, but beneath the elegance lies a subtle tension.
Barry examines the swirling dancers, then glances back at Kara. "So, uh, do you see anyone here who looks like they need our help?"
Kara turns to face him, her expression serious but tender. "Barry, maybe we're meant to be here for each other."
Barry frowns slightly, confusion etched across his face. "What do you mean?"
Kara takes a deep breath, summoning her courage. "Barry, ever since we met, I've felt this... connection with you. Something beyond friendship or partnership. And I know we're both dealing with romantic complications, but..."
Barry's heart skips a beat as he realizes what she's confessing. "But maybe, in this world, we don't have to worry about that. Maybe here, we can just be honest with each other."
Kara nods, her eyes locking onto his with fierce intensity. "Barry, I care about you-more than I ever thought possible. And I don't want fear or uncertainty to hold me back anymore."
His breath catches as he takes in her words. "Kara, I feel the same way. I've been so focused on trying to be the hero everyone needs me to be that I've overlooked what's been right in front of me."
Kara reaches for Barry's hand, and warmth spreads through both of them as their fingers intertwine.
"Barry Allen, you don't have to be alone in this. Not anymore. We can face whatever comes our way together."
A small smile curls across Barry's lips as he gently squeezes her hand. "Thank you, Kara. For being here. For being you."
The ballroom fades away until only the two of them remain, the dancers and music dissolving into a hazy blur. Their hearts beat in unison as they stand together, united in a newfound bond that transcends uncertainty and fear. The future no longer feels like an abstract unknown but a beautiful promise to be embraced-together.
They linger in the moment, enjoying the tranquility of each other's presence, but a lingering uncertainty returns.
"Do you think the Music Meister will just let us go after this?" Kara asks, her brow furrowed with worry.
Barry shakes his head, squeezing her hand again. "I doubt it. But whatever tricks he has left, we can handle them-together."
Kara nods and smiles, a glimmer of resolve returning to her eyes. "All right, then. Let's follow the story."
After confessing their feelings for each other, Barry and Kara decide to explore further. They find themselves in a room filled with costumes and makeup tables, the dim lighting casting long shadows across the racks.
Suddenly, two men burst in, pointing guns directly at them.
"Hi! I miss being bulletproof," Kara laughs nervously, glancing sideways at Barry.
"You're coming with us," one of the men orders, his voice low and threatening.
"Says who?" Barry challenges. The man steps forward and strikes him across the head with the butt of his gun, sending Barry crumpling to the ground.
"Barry!" Kara gasps.
"Says me," the man replies smugly, revealing himself as Martin Stein.
When Barry comes to, he groans, and Kara immediately checks his head for injuries. Her gentle hands stroke his forehead as she asks worriedly, "Are you okay?"
Barry winces. "Stop yelling."
Kara pulls her hands back, confused. "I'm not yelling," she whispers.
"Wait, where are we?" Barry asks, sitting up straighter as he regains his bearings.
"I don't know," Kara replies, still concerned.
Barry sighs and sits up fully. "All right, well, I'm sure everyone at S.T.A.R. Labs is working on getting us out of this."
"I'm glad they brought me to your Earth," Kara says with a small smile.
Barry chuckles softly. "So you agree my Earth is better!"
Kara pretends to be offended. "I never said that!" she giggles.
After a pause, Barry says, "Mon-El seems like he really cares about you." Although it hurts to acknowledge, Barry knows he has to say it.
Kara scoffs. "Mon-El only cares about himself. He lied to me about who he really was for nine months. Besides, I have you now!" She grins, taking his hand.
Rage simmers inside Barry, and he wants nothing more than to punch Mon-El. Instead, he smiles and squeezes Kara's hand gently.
Their moment is interrupted by someone shouting angrily, "Shut up! Both of you."
Barry and Kara look up to see Martin Stein staring them down.
"Stein?" Barry asks, confused.
"Who-who's Stein?" Stein replies, perplexed.
Before Barry can answer, the door slams open. Joe steps in and approaches Stein. "This them?"
"Yeah."
"Hmm," Joe mutters as he and Stein stand before Barry and Kara.
"Do you know who I am?" Joe asks, his expression hardened.
"Not Joe West, I'm guessing," Barry says.
"Digsy. Digsy Foss. I run this town," Digsy clarifies.
"So you're the mayor?" Kara asks hesitantly.
Digsy chuckles. "The mayor may have gotten the vote, but I've got the power." He steps closer. "I've got a situation that you two are going to help me with."
"We'd love to help," Barry says quickly, and Kara nods, "Really love to."
"My daughter, Millie... she's missing. Last she was seen; she was heading into Cutter Moran's place." Digsy shows them a picture of his daughter.
Barry takes the photograph, studying it carefully before passing it to Kara. "Have you seen her in there?" Digsy asks.
"Millie, did you say?" Barry murmurs, showing Kara the picture of Iris.
"Yeah. Why?" Digsy asks.
Barry clears his throat "We haven't seen her." Then he and kara say at the same time "I haven't seen her."
"She's the only thing that is good and decent... about my life. If anything happened to her this town will run red with blood." Digsy says.
"Starting with yours." Stein adds.
"We wouldn't want that now, right?" Barry says and Kara chuckles nervously. "So, um, how can we help you?" Barry asks.
"You two sing for Cutter."
"We sure do."
"Yes, we do."
"You could poke around and see if you can find her. So are you gonna do this for me?" Digsy asks.
Kara turns to Barry and whispers "what do we do?"
"Follow the script."
"Hey!" Disgy yells angrily.
"Hey. Were gonna find her..."
"Mm-hmm."
"Sir." Barry adds.
"Good." Digsy says and Barry sighs relieved.
Back at the bar, Barry and Kara approach Pablo to ask where they can find Millie. He leads them to an apartment, casting a wary glance over his shoulder.
"Okay. This is the place. Apartment 4B."
Barry surveys the building skeptically. "This is where we'll find Iris?"
"Millie," Kara reminds him.
"Millie, right." Barry corrects himself.
With a quick nod, Pablo leaves them.
A piercing scream erupts from the apartment. Barry and Kara exchange a glance before kicking down the door.
Inside, they find Iris and Mon-El locked in a passionate embrace, oblivious to the intruders until Barry's voice booms, "What the hell is going on?"
Kara shakes her head in disbelief. "I did not see this coming. Both our exes kissing, I mean."
"This doesn't hurt as much as I thought it would," Barry admits, glancing at Kara with a grin.
"Yeah, I agree," Kara replies, taking his hand. "Let's get this over with." She pulls him into the apartment with their joined hands.
"All right, you caught us," Iris says, shoulders slumping in defeat.
"We're in love," Mon-El adds confidently.
