Cerulean Lore?

Overview: The Cerulean Species

CERULEANS ARE A HUMANLIKE SPECIES FROM THE PLANET TAHPEOKK. THEY'RE NOT ALIENS, BUT MANY CULTURES VIEW THEM AS MONSTERS.

BORN AND BRED FOR A LIFE OF SERVITUDE, CERULEANS ARE LOYAL, HAPPY DEVOTED SERVANTS. THEY ARE HARDWORKING, POLITE, AND VERY RESPECTFUL; THEY ARE VERY GENTLE AND IT IS RARE FOR THEM TO BE VIOLENT.

CERULEANS ARE VERY DEVOTED TO THEIR MASTERS /MISTRESSES, AND TYPICALLY SERVE THEM UNTIL THEY OR THEIR MASTER/MISTRESS DIE. WHILE THIS SEEMS HONORABLE, IT HAS ONE DRAWBACK. THAT IS, THEY WILL EVEN PLEDGE LOYALTY TO THE CRUELEST OF MASTERS.

RARELY BORN WITH ONLY ONE SET OF EYES

FOUR EYES TO COMPENSATE FOR THE FACT THAT THEY ARE GENERALLY QUITE DEAF. MOST CERULEANS ARE EQUIPPED WITH DICSCREET HEARING AIDS FROM A VERY YOUNG AGE, BUT THIS IS SEEN AS COMPLETELY NORMAL IN CERULEAN CULTURE.

ALL CERULEANS HAVE BLUE SKIN. IT CAN BE VARIOUS SHADES, AND TYPICALLY IS DARKEST ON THE HANDS AND FEET. (THINK OF THE SKIN TONE RANGE OF HUMANS, BUT MAKE IT BLUE, AND THAT'S HOW MANY VARIATIONS CERULEANS HAVE.)

NOT ONLY IS THEIR SKIN BLUE, THEY ALSO HAVE THE ABILITY TO CHANGE THEIR SKIN COLOR IN ORDER TO BETTER FIT THE CULTURE THEY WORK AND LIVE IN.

ALL CERULEANS HAVE SMALL POINTED CANINES

INSIDE THE MOUTH IS PURPLE! SO IS THE TONGUE

THEIR BLOOD IS YELLOW!

CAN USE ILLUSION ABILITIES TO HIDE THEIR SECOND SET OF EYES TO AVOID BEING SCARY TO HUMANS. THIS COMES WITH SOME SENSORY DRAWBACKS, BUT NOTHING SEVERELY INHIBITING.

IT IS RARE FOR CERULEANS TO BE SHORT

THEIR DIET IS OMNiVOROUS BUT THEY PRIMARILY PREFER FRUIT, FISH/SEAFOOD, AND VEGETABLES

ALL CERULEANS TAKE BALLROOM LESSONS FROM A YOUNG AGE AND ARE ENCOURAGED TO LEARN SOME SORT OF CLASSICAL INSTRUMENT

Origin

Hailing from the planet Tahpeokk, Ceruleans are a humanlike species born and bred for lives of servitude. They are hardworking, loyal, and quite friendly! Ceruleans resemble humans in many ways, though there are some key differences.

Appearance

Firstly, Ceruleans bear an extra set of eyes. This is to compensate for the fact that most Ceruleans are generally quite deaf. Of course, some suffer this worse than others, and as a result they are often equipped with discreet hearing aids from a very young age. This is seen as completely normal in Cerulean culture, so none of them question it.

Their extra set of eyes means impeccably good eyesight, as well as a certain special ability to mask their pupils if they so choose. They also possess the ability to use illusion techniques to hide their second set of eyes in order to appear less scary to humans. This can come with some drawbacks, but overall isn't harmful to them.

In some cases, Ceruleans may be born with only one set of eyes. This is an extremely rare birth defect that can be quite harmful as the Cerulean ages.

Another thing that differs Ceruleans from humans is their blue skin. All Ceruleans are naturally blue, which is where the species gets its name. The tint is naturally occurring and has absolutely no connection to oxygen deficiency. Like humans, Ceruleans have a variety of skin tones ranging from a very pale, almost white blue to deep shades of navy or even black. The hands are typically darker than the rest of the body, with the fingers being darkest and gradating lighter up to the wrist.

Now, blue is their naturally occurring skin pigment, but they have an ability that is very much like a chameleon; they can change their skin color and shade to better fit the culture they are exposed to. For example, if they are in a place inhabited mainly by humans, they may change their skin shade to a human tone as well as hide their extra eyes to better fit in with them.

Though most aspects of a Cerulean's physical appearance can be altered by use of this illusion technique, there are three attributes that cannot be changed: 1) their small, incredibly sharp canines; 2) their purple tongues/mouth interior; and 3) their yellow blood. No one quite knows why they cannot mask or change these features.

One final difference between humans and Ceruleans is that Ceruleans grow to be quite tall, sometimes even surpassing seven feet in height. It is extremely rare for them to be of shorter stature, with the shortest Cerulean recorded a modest 5 '8".

Diet

Just like humans, Ceruleans are omnivores who enjoy a wide variety of dietary preferences, though a vast majority of them seem to be primarily fond of fish/seafood, fruit, and vegetables.

Lifestyle, Education, and Occupations

Born and bred for a life of servitude, Ceruleans are brought up in close-knit households where manners and good morals are highly valued. When they are of age, they are sent to the highest-performing private schools available, or receive private tutoring in the comfort of their own homes. In their primary years they are taught all the core necessities that will help them in their adult lives; from a very young age, they are taught ballroom dancing and are encouraged to learn some type of classical instrument.

Most Ceruleans grow up to be servants or teachers, sometimes even doctors. Some may even choose a monastic or religious life, depending on what vocation they feel called to. They are gentle, hardworking, and highly respectful individuals who are pleasant to be around and always make the most gracious hosts.

They are fond of gardening and seem to have a way with plants.

Ceruleans who choose servanthood as a career are often some of the most happy, devoted servants–they are extremely loyal, almost to a fault. They typically serve only one master or mistress in their lifetime, serving them until the master/mistress dies. The grieving that can come from such a tragic event can weaken the Cerulean's heart, usually resulting in failure and death.

Their loyalty is admirable and honorable, but it has its drawbacks; as they will even pledge loyalty to the cruelest of masters.

Compatibility

If a Cerulean falls in love with a fae or a human, they are able to marry and reproduce. This may bring complications, as is to be assumed when mixing species. The most common complications are difficulty with color regulation, where the half-Cerulean child is unable to properly control their skin-changing ability. They also have a higher risk of being blind or having missing or even extra eyes, as well as risk of early onset heart issues. Of course, this does not apply to all situations.

Life span/life expectancy

A healthy Cerulean will live an incredibly long life, some of them even living to be several hundred years old!

Death

You may be wondering to yourself: when a Cerulean dies, do they go to heaven or hell or merely cease to exist? Do they even have souls? If so, is it an animal soul or a human-like soul?

The answer is simple: cerulean souls are just like human souls, which means when they die they will receive the final judgment and either go to heaven, purgatory, or hell.
